Padparadscha journey

First one = drab colour
Second one = need straight on picture to see how bad the window is. Colour is yummy though.

Just got sent these pics...but it looks more like a pink sapphire?

1.22ct, Sri Lankan origin, round.

The cut work doesn't look back, but I feel like it's 80% pink and only 20% maaaaybe orange. :/ Could just be lighting tho.

Another option is this one-- 1.02ct, RMB9600, Sri Lankan. Vendor says that it's slightly more orange IRL than in pic

Top one is “drab,” quoting Chrono.

About the second stone....
Orange is sometimes a code word for brown, so be careful. Who cut that thing? A five year old? It’s so frustrating seeing the horrible cutting coming out of Sri Lanka, but they don’t allow rough to be exported.o_O

I, too, love the color of the pear, but not the cut. The round is too pink and a bit insipid, color-wise.

I would not miss the pear.

The deep cut works magic! IMHO, brilliant fun, whereas a classical pear is one of too many www - a sort of achievement I am not about to name [I am thinking of the perfect colour swatch - a cut of paper of indifferent shape]

As gorgeous as the color on the pear is, it sold while I was requesting more vendor pics :cry2: The color did look lovely and the window wasn't the worst I've seen. Guess the front runner is still the 1.56ct oval then!

In the meantime, I've asked the pear's vendor to keep.an eye out for any similarly colored pads that are under 2ct! RMB9600 really was a steal urgh.

Seller shared this w/me: 1.02ct, unheated, Sri Lankan pad....for USD4600 :eek2:

IDK....price seems a bit much....
I love the color! I haven't ever looked for a pad so can't say much about the price. It's likely more than I would be comfortable spending, but that doesn't mean anything since it's just me. But the color would be my ideal since it's a mix of pink and orange (on my screen).

Hmmm...on my screen, it reads as mostly orange. Plus it's USD4600/ct which seems....a bit much imo. Think I'll wait on thr 5ct seller and the 1.56ct pad still.

Love that one. That is one stone that I think is worth the price. Strong saturation and beautifully cut. No dead zones and no window.

Holidays are over (unfortunately), but am now inspecting a new pad-- 2.03ct, USD3600

Awaiting natural sunlight pictures, but I think this one has promise. What does everyone think?

Still waiting on the 1.56ct one; right now, customs are being quite rigorous about checks due to the holiday influx so it's still overseas. I should be getting more pictures from the 5ct pad seller this week or next week as well, so fingers crossed on that one.

Is there a front on pic?

I feel like I shouldn't harp on about windows since I recently bought a stone with one but this might have a window

I think so! Window is quite visible in this bright daylight vid the vendor took for me:

She says thought that the first pic is more true to color and the bright daylight washes out any orange. Says it's a 60-40 pink-orange mix....but idk, that daylight pic just looks pink to me :/ Should that be a dealbreaker for me? Am I being too unreasonable w/expecting to see some orange/peach flash?

I think it depends how prominent the window is, I.e. is it super large and distracting or will it close up when it is set. And whether the price is reasonable. I'd be holding out for the 1.56! It looked gorgeous in the photos.

This waiting is killing me lol. The 1.56ct is still in Sri Lanka; apparently, someone w/a gemstone crossing into China got stopped at customs so now sellers are wary about coming in to deliver gems.

So I'm waiting on the 1.56ct and the 5ct Sri Lankan seller...and I was just sent this one. RMB21000 for 1.66ct, and my heart did stutter a bit when I saw it. Taken in natural outdoor lighting around 12 noon:

I've asked for more photos and the cut looks wonky (I think it's uneven) but zomg the color. Vendor says it displays 50-50 color shift so I asked her to take sunset pictures which might highlight that better than bright daylight. However, I think colorwise, it looks promising. Thoughts?

Need more pictures at other times, other light settings. The recent thing about color instability makes me wish this pad was tested for that.

Definitely need more pics! I like the colour (I like super strong coloured pads) but I can't see anything in terms of cut from that pic.

@mellowyellowgirl @voce I've been promised sunset outdoor pics & normal lighting indoor pics from the vendor; hopefully s/he pics up the pad with a tweezer or ring holder so I can get a better sense of the cut. Based on this pic though, how do you think it compares w.the 1.56 ct. one?

Regarding color stability, it will be certified by GIC and I can double check w/the seller whether or not GIC tests for color stability along w/heating & BE.

I like the 1.56ct more and imo this doesn't trump that one enough for you to give up the 1.56 if that makes sense.

What about the 1.56ct one do you like more? Color balance?

Shape (this new one looks wonky on one side). Also I saw the facets on the other one and this pic gives no indication at all of what this stone is really like.

Another picture of the 1.66ct one. The cutting really looks a bit wonky, and on my screen, it reads completely pink w/out much of a color shift. What does everyone think though?

I see a window

I see a window too. That said I've bought a windowed stone but only because I love the color.

Yeah, I think my main issue is the color. My current sapphire has a bit of the window, but the blue's so luscious I couldn't resist. This one...just looks like a pink sapphire? More indoor pics:

Uneven color distribution regardless of window or no window. It's something that counts against it.

These are vendors pics right? Not yours?
Any chance their camera just isn’t picking up the orange and amping the pink?
