Nice "Pad''s" this size can run you about $2-5K/ct. Beware abuse of the name...it''s all in the color!

The one I am looking at is being sold as a lotas blossom pad the color of the ring belle posted in white gold.

Hi, angel_n.....

Have you done a search for padparadschas? There have been several threads about them, i''m sure with lots of pictures.

Gary is so right there seem to be lots of different colors of stones that are called "pads" these days, and some treatments it''s important to be aware of. Do you have a picture of the stone you''re considering? or a link to it?

Anyway, here''s a picture of mine that hasn''t been posted before. I''m trying to collect shots of my gemstones with other things from nature of similar color. I couldn''t find a lotus flower, but I did find this "Padparadscha Rose" in my garden:

This is the stones Im thinking of buying. Itis being sold privately from a jewler in france. I have dealt with him befor and am very pleased with everything I have bought from him. I have attached two pics which does everyone think has the best color. They are both around 1.24 ct.

Wow...I like them both! Do you know what their stories are regarding treatment?

I guess my favorite color is the first one...it seems a little more saturated, with less brown undertone...but the second one appears to be livelier and more brilliant.

I''d probably listen to what the seller thinks of them, and go for the one he/she thinks is the best, overall...

(I''m strictly an amateur here...my opinions aren''t worth too much!

Hopefully an expert will weigh in!)

Both of the stones have been heat treated.

Great!

(It''s my understanding that it''s beryllium treatment that you need to be wary of...)

Why is beryllium treatment bad?

Here''s a thread that discusses it: "What exactly is bad about diffusion?"

You can search for it. (sorry, I don''t know how to post links..)

I guess it''s not "bad" per se...but you need to know you''re what you''re getting and paying accordingly. I believe that Be treated stones should be quite inexpensive...they are "bad" stones made to look good..

Another cautionary note - Be treated stones are often misrepresented, intentionally or not, so you might be paying for a Ford in BMW clothing.

Also, you can fall in love with the color, BUT that color may not be a true Pad, thus you can over pay considerably.

If it were my wallet, I would want a grading report to say Pad on it if the stone were over 2ct. and more than $3-5K.
