What are the parameters for ovals to avoid a bowtie?

When we’re looking at oval brilliant diamonds there’s a difference in width on the pavilion facets between the center and the tips. This means the flashes in the middle are larger than those at the tips.
Oval Modified Brilliant will avoid this by adding facets below the girdle. Generally this is a better design for fancy colored diamonds.
There are very bad cases where the center of an oval is very dark. In the best cases the center will stay bright.
But I do think there’s a mind clean aspect to it.
Once a person is looking for a bowtie….. they’ll probably see it

There are no easy parameters to avoid a bow-tie. There are some "patented" ovals that avoid bow-ties. Distinctive Gems and BGD
have them but there are not many vendors out there that do have "Ideal" ovals.

Everything at a cost......IMO, taking steps to "reduce bowtie" leads to other deficits...such as spread.
AND_ the dreaded "mind clean" comes into play when a consumer is initially concerned about "bow ties"

Agree David...most people arent willing to go with a super Ideal (8 H&A) due to the reduced LxW and the extra $. Its all a trade-off
which makes it really hard to advise people on ovals. They just dont understand all the ramifications of their specific wants
(not referring to autumgems...just talking in general when people get very detailed in their specs for an oval). The more they narrow
down the specs, the less likely they are to find a nicely cut oval with good light return IMO.

Actually, no.
There are some very shallow combinations that perform OK, but hard to find.
The stones with round diamond crown and pavilion angle combinations largely have bow ties. Type 1 bowties - dark right through the middle edge to edge.
Then there are slightly deeper good stones.
Then you get the equivalent of a round diamond nail head with 44 plus degree pavilions and the have Type 2 mail heads confined to the tabel area and are usually very small spread.
