Well i''ve decided on a rock (1ct Princess), now im having a bit of a problem with the setting. What is the more popular choice these days? (what will get the most Oooo''s and Ahhhhh''s...) The pave and common prong ring that i like look a bit thin (1.9 mm) and the channel set clocks in at 2.2mm. Will a narrower band like the 1.9mm choices make the 1ct princess look bigger or disproportionate?

I love pave - I have a thin pave setting myself, so I may be biased.
However, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of channel set settings.

ETA: To answer your other question - I have a 2mm band with a 1 ct RB - I find my stone looks larger on my thin band compared to a friend who has a 1ct RB on a wider band.

at the moment its a threeway tie between these settings here:

pave
channel
and
common

all in platinum

They are all very close in design and very pretty. The channel set is probably the most sturdy. Pave would be the most delicate and easiest to loose a stone out of. The common prong is the most delicate-looking. If your lady has a small finger size I think the common-prong would look beautiful with a 1 ct princess.

I like the common prong it is beautiful and delicate and still more sturdy than pave. The pave is beautiful also. I think the thin band will make your diamond look bigger.

I''m going through this same exact debate right now. I was dead set on a channel set since October until I read this Sunday (I think somewhere on here) that channel set was more popular in the early 90s and pave is what''s hot right now. I know it''s all about choose what you like, but reading that made me want something modern, something that identifies me as late 2000s. Of the 3 you showed, I like the common prong setting. I don''t know if it''s my computer, but I''m not seeing much of a difference between the channel set pic and the pave pic.

I like the common prong the best. I''ve thought of re-setting my solitaire into that same setting!

I would go with a channel set, since the the common prongs and pave design doesnot actually displays the melee diamonds like some other designs, I would get the most durable of the 3.

I am not keen on channel set so I would choose pave or common prong personally.

Oooh, sounds like it's going to be a lovely ring!

1.9 mm is going to look great with a 1 ct. stone - and will make the stone pop more than a 2.2 mm setting. Here are my picks in order of personal preference for a 1 ct. princess.

1. Common prong
2. Pave
3. Channel (not too fond of channel set, m'self)

I probably would get a channel set band with small princess stones. I have always loved that look. Pave is WAY too fragile for me and I like common prong with round/rounder shaped stones the best. But this is ALL personal opinions. There is no right or wrong answer so follow your heart.

Sounds like the Common Prong is the winner. To be honest it was my favorite, lets hope she likes it too!!!!

I also like the common prong.

Pave is beautiful but delicate and I don''t know if everyone is up to caring for it properly.

The common prong is my favorite of the 3.
Pave 2nd, Channel 3rd...all very pretty though!

I''m a big fan of channel, it''s always 100 times nicer IRL than it is in pictures!

common! gorgeous!

I like the common prong setting the best... Then the pave.
