Hello - I''ve been researching an e-ring for a little while now and have seen some pave settings that look really nice and some that look pretty bad - but I can''t quite put my finger on what exactly makes a pave setting good.

I would like a very thin band, but that would mean the diamonds in the pave setting will need to be quite small. I have seen some pave settings where the beads almost stand out more than the diamonds and there is actually quite a contrast between the two, which makes it very appealing to me. However, I''ve also seen relatively thin bands where the beads fit in seamlessly with the diamonds and it looks extremely beautiful and bright.

Does anyone know why that is the case? Is it beads, the diamonds, or just the craftsmanship?

Hi knuman, I''m not expert but in my opinion it can be any or all of the things you listed. sometimes it''s the workmanship or poorly cut diamonds or even cheaper materials. I have found with most instances of pave there is some truth to getting what you pay for. I started a thread a while ago about the differences between pave that is handmade verse cast. You can read it here, it might help you too.

I recently upgraded my ering and the diamond was put into what I think is a micropave setting. It's the HOF Wondrous - the setting is stunning. I think it was expensive (over $6,000) but after reading about diamonds popping out and craftsmanship, I also think you get what you pay for. As much as I LOVE my setting, I don't think I can wear a wedding band with it (so I'm still conflicted - I wish I could wear a wedding band...but I love my setting). This is something that people considering a pave ring should think about (IF the pave is on the side of the setting also). Good luck!

I just wanted to mention that I was at Mark T''s the other day and he showed me a SUPER thin pave band and halo ring that kind of blew me away...My main problem with pave is that if done wrong, you see to much metal...or that it isn''t delicate enough...It was stunning. Just wanted to throw that out there!
