ok im lookin for a pear diamond and I have had alot of help but I have one question. what specs make a pear diamond pop, shine, sparkle? she doesnt want a diamond bigger than a carat

You need magnified images of the stone to judge it's appearance, and you need an ASET image to judge light performance. Pears are not the most brilliant sparkly diamonds, so you do need to get the best you can. I like Good Old Gold for fancy cuts because they can call in a few and help check light performance.

pears are terrible from a cut perspective.

Nothing pops like a round.

she wants a pear im getting a pear so what makes pear pop

Go by pictures. Too many facet configurations to give you any guidelines.

Not if you want something else.

Non-round people are not pleased by rounds.

so what makes a pear diamond pop!!!!!!!!!!! as far as specs

There are no specs. Anyone that tells you different is making it up.

You can't judge a pear on anything other than faceting and light return. That's what determines performance. 2 stone with very similar stats on a diamond lab report can be amazingly different. One can be a star the other a dog.

It's the wild wild west with pears.
That's why I posted links to JA. They have videos so you can just the faceting and the light return. And they have ASETs so you can verify light return.

As a non round person, I would have to agree. I have rounds. I like them. They just don't give me the thrill of a fancy.

I think it's also incorrect to say pears are terrible from a cut perspective. Yes, they may never reach the performance potential of a round but they are far from being terrible.

OP. Yes, it's easy and common to find a well cut round on these boards. A well cut pear will require more work, but you can definitely find one that pops!

Ideally, to find one that pops, you would have a whole bunch of stones before your eyes to pick from. It would be pretty apparent which stones had the right type of facet pattern for you, in combination with a great light performance.

If you can't see a bunch of stones in person, Aset and IS images will help you find a great performing stone. I know it's difficult to collect a bunch of pears in one place.

I also think a pears' shape and outline are really important. Does your fiancé like a full, round pear? Or something shaped like a tear drop, or skinnier? Some pears look/perform like half a round diamond with a slightly less well performing marquise tip. I find those quite beautiful. I personally also like full pears with clear, well defined, fatter/chunkier facets. Again, seeing something, even a video is really helpful.

In brief, no, there aren't really any hard cut criteria for pears. You probably want to avoid anything that's extremely deep or extremely thin... But that applies in general.

I would look at James Allen or speak with GOG, or anyone else who can provide you with pictures, Asets and preferably videos.

Good luck, and enjoy the process. Finding a great fancy is a bit of a needle, but they are out there (and I think worth it in the end).

I found some really nice ones for him in his other thread yesterday.

REALLY nice ones.

He just needs to find out which ones are eyeclean. Pick three of them and ask for ASETs of them and get the gemologist's opinion on them and go from there. :read:

Ah. I see.

Thanks Gypsy.
