Pear Sapphire Halo Pendant Big Enough?

We visited with David Klass today and picked up the pendant. Here's the video.

It actually looks better in real life!!!

Many thanks to all those PriceScopers who helped us on this journey from complete gemstone ignorance to total blueliciousness. ;)2

THUD!

Thanks for all the compliments and @missy I hope you don't mind too much that I plagiarised your bluelicious.

Beautiful heirloom piece! It looks much more violet in the video than one of the picture. I am curious which one is more representative of the color IRL?

IRL the stone is vivid blue without a hint of purple. You may notice there is violet/purple in the background of the video, and that seems to be impacting the color of the stone. Photos to follow.

I now know that many PriceScopers have developed terrific camera skills, taking a good close up seems to be beyond me. I have a lot to learn with my I-phone!

We don't see it in real life, but my photos do show a tad more violet than the originals.

Just wanted to follow up on my original post in case this thread comes up in someone's search. Five months later, and having a tad more jewelry experience, I now feel it would have been a mistake to spend $10-20K on a 4 ct sapphire pendant. For that kind of money one deserves some serious bling and impact, and this size of stone is just not big enough to deliver it as a pendant. Our 9 ct tanzanite pendant does catch the eye and get lots of compliments, but it has double the face up surface area of that original pendant.

The 4 ct sapphire would however deliver major, major bling as a ring, and I feel that's the right use for a stone this size. Just look at @chrono's magnificent Mahenge spinel ring.

I think we kind of stumbled onto the tanzanite but it does seem that, if you like big stones, pendants are the perfect place to use the less expensive gem varieties. Also really good for the gem types that might be a little too soft for a ring.

Amazing stone and amazing pendant! I love this beginning of your colored stone journey. May I ask, were the diamonds around the tanzanite 2.5mm or ? in the design? I can't quite tell but from the CAD they look larger than 2mm. Thank you for showing this beauty!

@Polyhex, looking back on this thread I now realize how incredibly lucky I was to discover PriceScope. Under normal circumstances it would have taken DW and I years and many costly mistakes to accumulate the wealth of expert knowledge and advice we received in just this one thread. This is also where we heard about David Klass. I shall always be grateful to the ladies here who so generously helped us get off to such a great start.

The diamonds in the pendant halo are 3 pointers, so yes, about 2.0mm. Actually the diamond size came easy, we just asked Amy at DKJ to start with the diamond size she recommended. She came back with the first CAD at 2.0mm, and that was almost exactly the 20% of the center stone width DW had already decided she preferred. We thought we had this CAD thing down pat, and then Amy asked what we wanted to do with the gallery and the bale? :mrgreen2: I had to call to find out what a "gallery" was. :eek2:
