Allrighty,
So we went down to Jeweler''s Row yesterday and had a myriad of interesting experiances, I''d say 90 percent good and a few great.
This post is to rec. the great B&M fellows (which isn''t hugely related to this forum) and *not* recommend anyone interested in buying their sapphire from a Philadelphia jewler go to the one awful B&M. The man is a menace, IMO. I checked the forum rules and I think it''s ok to mention a name as long as it is my personal testimoy, apologize in advance if wrong.
The good first:
Harzin''s Jeweler''s--very knowledgeble, soft sell, actually came down on the palladium-White Gold side of the Plat/white gold debate even though he ("he" being the manager) knew we were looking at more expensive platinum. Has a supplier for treated and untreated stones, knows his gemstones pretty well but admitted the limits of his knowledge.
Deb''s Jeweler''s---good people, family store. Have a good colored stone guy on hand who actually said that for some reason rubies don''t sell well in Philly, mostly diamonds and sapphires.
And the ugly:
Please don''t go to Kusturiss Jewelers for colored stones. Ever. The man announced that there was "no price differance between treated and untreated sapphires." He then claimed he had never even heard of an untreated sapphire. He then claimed our stone was greenish and grey and tried to sell us one of his stones after telling us to send ours back. The darn thing has issues, but THAT is not one of them. Then he said he had never head of palladium, or of its being alloyed with white gold (of which their supply was entirely 14K). He also said it wasn''t alloyed "with anything." Oh REALLY? So how is it *white* gold then?!
Look, it may just be ignorance or maybe something worse, but this was just my experiance with one guy in the store. He might just be a bad salesman, but I felt that it was worth letting others know about, if only to avoid the stomachache that ensued.
