no, i would not do anything to that lovely setting. your stone will be just fine in it.
however, i am fond of the "hammered" look because as the dents and nicks happen over time they aren't noticeable.

bezel setting leaving the back open would be my choice.

i think you're going to love having this set as a ring!

also, are you going 18k or 14k? my preference is always for 18k........

MZ, my preference is 18K as well. As for the hammered vs. the totally smooth and shiny look, I will have to think about it. The former is indeed more practical, and it looks more rustic too. Regardless, I have two good options now.

Cookie, i'm really glad to see cabs being taken more seriously here at pricescope. i think your ring will go a long ways in furthering the "legitimatization" of cabs as serious jewelry and "bling"....i know there are many of us that love/like cabs but i think there are those that discount them as serious stones.

MZ, I too hope that over time, fewer people will associate cabs with cheap and replaceable costume jewelry. I think once a person is exposed to a decent cab, especially one with a magical star or cat's eye, his/her attitude toward cabs will be likely to change.. this will take time though.
