Anyone feel like guessing what these stones might be? Pink sapphires/ rubies, maybe? My aunt gave me this bracelet, an old one of hers, some 25 years ago. The stones are crudely cut, unevenly colored, chipped and included, but pretty (I think).

I posted a thread about it, with more pictures, in the jewelry section here.

Very pretty!

I would not guess ruby. Pink tourmaline, perhaps? [I''m thinking that tourmaline would chip more easily that sapphire]. I love the pink color.

Thank you, Diamante!

I think they''ve chipped so much because of the inclusions. There are lots of what look like they must be weak spots in the stones. The reason I thought sapphire/ruby is that despite the chips, they''re not at all scratched, so it seems like it''s probably a hard stone. Whatever they are, they''re clearly not the highest quality of it...

Whatever they are, they are very pretty, nonetheless!

Heavily included in such a small size makes me think of bixbite but I don''t know how likely that is. Pink sapphire is probably a good guess.

True. Given the inclusions [which I had not noted as I probably should have] I would have to reconsider and say pink sapphire.

My guess would be that they actually are rubies or sapphires.

Can you ask your local jeweller to test them?

Whatever they are, it''s a very pretty bracelet and a lovely present from your grandmother.

I''d say that they are probably rubies/pink sapphires.

The chip in the one I can see looks like the type of chips that you get in corundum - and you say that they aren''t scratched. If they were paste they would be more uniform in colour, scratched more and not included.

Bixbite is so rare that I would be totally amazed if that was what it turned out to be.

It''s a very pretty bracelet whatever they do turn out to be.

In complete agreement.

Many thanks, everyone!
