I was out of town at an event and spotted a ring on a lady''s hand that just jumped out at me from across the room. At first I thought it was a pink diamond - albeit a *huge* one. Now it happened that the lady wearing it could have afforded such a stone, so I could not help but ask her about it. It turned out to be a pink zircon, cushion cut in a delicate halo diamond setting. I don''t know the carat weight, but size wise, it would have been in the four ct range if it were a diamond (this is an eyeball guess on my part as I don''t know if zircons are heavier than diamonds - I''m just estimating).

Anyway, it was absolutely lovely. Does anyone know anything about pink zircons? I looked at gemselect.com but did not see any. Any idea where to buy pink zircon? Is it rare?

hi
i mine for sapphires and zircons in australia
a untreated natural clean zircon runs around 50-150$ a carat range for stones 1-4 carats
dark reds can get a higher price.
i sold this year at the tuscon gem show a 4.5ct pink fancy cut clean for 400$.
zircons are absolutly undervalued in general.

Beacon, I don''t have the answer, but I have looked in the past for loose pink zircon on websites. I know it exists but have had a hard time finding it.

Anyone out there who can help???

I recently bought some loose pink zircons from the below company. Not sure if they sell direct to consumers though. They were very easy to deal with and extremely knowledgeable.

Tony, could you possibly post some pics of your loose stones?? I would love to see their color..

What a dazzling photogallery at mayer and watt web site. Thanks for mentioning it - very beautiful.

I posted some pics of three 5mm pink rounds under the thread "Yellow Sapphires" in this forum site. Unfortunately the pics don''t do the stones justice.

If you can''t find the original thread let me know and I''ll try to take some better shots.

Tony

Tony,
I found the pics, thanks!

They look great!
