Planning a blue topaz ring: sky vs Swiss vs london

@diamondyes

Can we backtrack? Were you wanting a topaz ring or a pear ring? I is confused but am fascinated because I enjoy spending other people's money from Ban Island :lol-2:

I would like a pear shaped halo ring. I was going to put a lab diamond in it, but then I saw how inexpensive blue topaz is, and thought I could go REALLY big that way… so I’m investigating this option :)

Oh I loooove tanzanite. But it is softer and more expensive so I dunno…

Thanks for that info! I’ll look closer at Swiss as I can see your descriptors happening for sure to the other blues.
I own all colors and prefer Swiss the best, as London goes grey and dark in many lights and the sky looks pale and boring unless cut to maximize brilliance. Although not mentioned, when it comes to affordable blues, tanzanite beats them all with liveliness and scintillation. Tanzanite is soft but absolutely beautiful, especially when compared to topaz side by side.

If you want pink then I would go with spinel because it’s durable and sparkly. For blue, also consider zircon which is affordable, has incredible sparkle and fire, good hardness but can eventually show facet wear.

I gotta look into spinel! Thank you!

Zircon I think would be too soft for me

Apparently there are in fact some pale blues with natural color. But the sky, swiss, and london are all heated and irradiated.

Yup, and I have posted about my 2 natural blue Topaz in the past.

DK :))

I tried on some colours today. But I would make it in white gold. 4628891D-8185-4F66-AB3A-824016B00C2C.jpeg
