I'm back again...just talked to Yoni from Eternity Diamonds and finally got an answer! They use 950platinum and iridium alloy. I'm waiting for my ring to be shipped (he said Monday! wahooo!!!!), and now I'd like to hear some feedback from those with this mixture. I know the preferred seems to be the Platinum-ruthenium combo, BUT seeing as that isn't what I'm getting, I'd like to "hear" about what I might be in store for with this softer metal. As far as polishing goes, how much does that cost about? And do you think it wears away the metal to much? My ring will have the milgrain on it, so is that even polishable? I've got three kids (8 twin boys and a 14 yr old daughter) and a crazy golden retriever to boot, so I'm pretty rough on my hands. Hopefully I won't regret this softer choice... bring on the stories...the good (hopefully there are some) and the ugly. Thanks in advance!

It'll just get scratches a little more easily and possibly turn gray, so just take good care of your ring (which we should all do anyway)! Can you show us a picture? Not sure about the polishing because it depends on where the milgrain is.

depends where you are re. cost of repolishing.
I had the 950/ir alloy, you can see comparison pictures of gaining a patina from brand new month-by-month in this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/platinum-vs-white-gold.147732/#post-2668608
By six months it had a clear patina on the shank and protruding prongs, the crevices were still shiny. Plain shank, no detail (engraving/milgrain/pave)

Okay, well you have diamonds on the shank and on the sides, so you don't have a lot of platinum showing! I'd definitely ask the seller his advice on polishing.

It is pretty easy to accidentally have millgrain polished off. It's also pretty easy to have it redone too, luckily. Even if you don't lose some of the millgrain to polishing, after years it does wear off some anyway- especially the really beautiful extremely delicate millgrain.

You could possibly have the plain metal parts engraved. That hides patina pretty good, if you're not a fan of it. But you don't have a lot of shiny metal exposed so it's not likely to be too visible regardless.

oh thritto, with that much going on all around the ring (the important bits that people see anyway) I don't think you need to worry too much about patina affecting the appearance, practically speaking - the sparkle from all those stones will be the only thing anyone can focus on!

And if you're still worried LGK's idea of engraving sounds pretty :))

Thanks everyone! I didn't even think of the fact that not much of the metal will be showing! I just hope it's durable enough to hold up. It took 15 yrs to get this one and it's suppose to be my forever ring. :) I can't wait to post pics on Tuesday... (hopefully...)

We will look forward to seeing it! I love rings with milgrain, too!
