PLEASE CHECK IN !!!

We got our power back saturday. by sunday the building was warm and there was hot water again. I threw out everything that was in the fridge and washed it. just up the street from me there is a marvelous garden at an NYU faculty housing designed by I M Pei. The garden is one of the nicest in the city. Roses all around the edge, primrose, iris, hollyhock, crocus, violet, dicentra, so many it is alway in bloom from the first thaw to the hard frost. An enormous Locust tree has stood in the middle for at least one hundred years. well it came down in the storm and took two other trees with it.

What a wonderful gesture you made! I'm so happy that she (and her chicken ) felt 'safe' with you.

It's great that your daughter enjoyed having a chicken to have fun with. Sometimes, we are happiest when chatting and playing under the most trying circumstances. :appl: :wavey:

We can list this as a blessing of sorts originating under the horror of Sandy.

You are one of a kind, Deb. :wavey:

When I saw them cutting it up yesterday, I asked if I could have a piece. They said sure. I picked this stump up and put it on my shoulder and carried it across Houston st. From there I rolled it down the sidewalk. After I got it home , I went back with a hand truck and got two more pieces. The whole neighborhood laughed at me. Each stump is about 80 pounds. but the wood is lovely and large. I have a friend who is a food scientist at nyu and lives in that building, So one of the pieces is to be a bowl about 18 inch diameter for him and his wife. One piece I will use as a stump base for my anvil and anvil stakes, and the other I will cut into a bowl for myself, and some tool handles.

Wow! I never heard a greener story, VL. Congratulations on making it through Sandy and making lemonade out of the lemons you got!!!

Big hugs,

Glad to see you back! :wavey:

That's awesome, VL! :appl:

Go rent a zip car for a couple of hours and drive around and load up the trunk! There's got to be some good stuff up in Central Park! Or call the arboretum, what do they have?

Have you done all that carving already? That looks like a lot. Heck, I didn't even want to carve a pumpkin!

It is wonderful to hear everyone pick up the pieces and make a quick return to normalcy. The stories of caring and sharing reaffirms the generosity of the human heart. And VL, you are one creative dude! Free wood (and a nice one too), a labour of love and cleaning up the environment all in one. :appl:
