PLEASE CHECK IN !!!

Sent the GF to her parents when the temps in the house hit the 40s tonight.

Guess I have to cancel my upcoming secret dinner with them to ask their blessing, if she's there!.... I doubt I get the ring before TGiving anyway at this point to be honest after reading about Long Island. So I'll try to get a word in at that time. I wanted to be engaged before Thanksgiving when we see all of our friends and family : / but safety and health is much more important

Stranger things have happened so just keep focusing on the outcome you want and you never know ;))

Nothing to add but good wishes for those who are in the area hit by the storm. Please check in and let us know that you are OK.

GOG Is closed and their employees are also facing personal difficulties which are of course #1 to resolve. They can't provide any updates at this time on jewelry that's been ordered.

I heard a rumor that the Metro-North and LIRR train lines are re-opening as of 2pm today. JFK is re-opening. Enerchi did you fly into JFK or LGA?

We flew in via Newark .. Now I'm wondering how we will get back to Newark to fly out! Any news on bridges or tunnels opening up?

There are so many of you on PS that are having a rough time. I'm sorry you are all facing challenges much worse than our simple"nothing is open to tourists" complaints! I apologize for whining about missing out on a lot of NYC stuff when there are so m any in such dire circumstances... I hope there is rapid relief for you all...VERY SOON! Just means ill have to return another time!

must just quickly share a bright spot in my trip - IDJ (yekutiel, tami and luann) were not able to get into the city today, so they willhope to reopen tomorrow. we did get to meet with Leigh of LJN and narrowed down to a few settings and I was surprised I ruled out the ones I thought I wanted! Then---had a FANTASTIC informative and pleasurable visit with David and his lovely wife, at DBL!! Tried on a ton of treasures and saw so many beautiful loose stones! Will post elsewhere but just wanted to say what a great day it ended up being!

No tunnels open but I think I heard the George Washington bridge is opening. Don't feel guilty about complaining about missing the attractions. You paid a lot of money for this trip and your vacation days. I would be upset too. I hope you can enjoy New York in better weather next time.

GWB is definitely open...

That's great news; it is going to go a long way in getting the necessary supplies to the people in need of them.

I am so sorry about the uncertainty regarding the ring! Look at it this way, you'll never forget the timing of your proposal because of the hurricane delay! Will you see family again at Christmas (if you celebrate it)? Maybe you can aim for a Dec. proposal if the ring isn't ready by Thanksgiving.

We are still without power here. Saw the PECO trucks parked in my area but they have not started any work yet. I am just grateful that there was no flooding in our area. We had some extremely severe floods in the past after some pretty nasty winter storms. Schools in my area are back this Friday. Stores are just starting to reopen and gas stations have been getting deliveries so we can keep our generators going.

Yup we will see family again at Christmas. To me though, Thanksgiving has always felt like one of the more "social" holidays (going out to a bar on Wednesday night with the hometown friends, a 4 day weekend with family, etc)...Christmas is a little more formal and really gets packed into Christmas Eve / Christmas morning, and I almost never spend significant time with my friends etc. Too much to do with church, presents, dinners on both days etc.

We are ok. :wavey: We lost power on Monday. My prayers to all that are going through this, I cannot believe NY , NJ... I am so sad.
It's been hard here but nothing like there...

Karma is a powerful (no pun intended) thing. I hope someone does something very nice for them too--they deserve it!

Indeed! It's more about how they are thinking about others that is so uplifting and refreshing. I love when I see this type of human spirit!

Reporting in from CT. Power came back on last night. We are so thankful to have power again. Our generator was great. It was enough for showers, coffee, micro and some lights. Thankfully, no trees down for us, but there was extensive tree damage throughout town. My heart goes out to those affected by the storm. The images from NY and NJ are unbelievable.

Thanks for checking in LV. Do you know how Hartford was hit??

I am humbled at the spirit of all, that carry on. With dignity and grace. And really pray long and hard for all those who lost everything..

From what I read, it seems the city was not hit too hard. Power outages and some damage. The surrounding towns seemed to have more trees down, but the shoreline was hardest hit. The randomness of the trees that are down is so scary. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Just so random. Really massive trees just ripped from the ground. I was more scared by this storm than any before it. I remember you posted about being worried about your trees, just before the storm hit. Did any come down? How about in your town?

Thanks, Skippy.

LV,
Neighbors trees fell, and took out all the power lines. You go one mile and again, rinse and repeat all lines down to fallen trees.

Many here are still without power and many live wires are not secured. People have died and pets have died.

Thanks for the heads up on CT.

In my area there is a town called Levittown that suffered extensive damage from downed trees that toppled onto cars and homes. In New Hope and Upper Makefield it was the utility poles in addition to trees that just snapped leaving downed wires and closing roads. We still have downed wires in my area with no power since Monday mid afternoon and we are all electric - septic, well, all utilities.

Kaleigh - It's so sad. I read some stories on CNN, I think, about some of the victims of the storm, and it is just too heart-breaking, sad and random. I wasn't sure if we should have gone to the basement. We didn't really get any advisories like that. I took my toddler to the dining room during the worst part of the storm, figuring it was the location in our house least likely to be struck by a tree.

Soocool - Do you have power now? Not sure if maybe you are on your phone? I hope the town is offering some services (water for drinking and also washing and plumbing) to people without power. Some people could be trapped on their streets so they can't even access services. That was one of my biggest worries. My husband kept saying that we'd be able to go to the store after the storm, but what if you can't get out of your street?? or your driveway? On a side note, I was in New Hope several years ago. So pretty out there!

Oh, and people are starting to get frustrated with the electric companies here. People do ok without power for a few days, but more than that, and it becomes very trying. Temps are dropping tonight too.

Still no power and it is 2:30 am. Just turned the generator on again and DH is worried because hevhad problems stating it. Yes on mobile device and recharging right now as I write. Peco now says power should be back by 3pm Sat, a few hrs earlier it said 6 am Saturday. They needvto replace 4 or 5 poles and 2 transformers and remove 3 trees first. One homeowner hired a company to remove her tree that was sitting on one of the downed lines to help expedite things.

Oh, and same store owners that reopened are kind and generous enough to offer people just to come in and warm up and let them recharge their electronics. I am just happy that my dad is warm and ok. My sister is in the same boat as me so unfortunately we cannot really help each other out, but we are playing the "who gets their power on first game".

LV, Kaleigh, Soocool - I'm glad you're OK and without major damage to your homes or families. Hang in there - hopefully at least the power will be back up soon - and stay safe!

glad to hear that at least some people are getting their power back... :appl:

I just got cable back within the past couple of hours. (It is almost 3:30 PM Saturday. The storm hit on Monday.) When I got cable back, I checked my e-mail before I checked Pricescope and Skippy had e-mailed me to ask if I was all right. (That woman is a living doll. Thank you, Skippy!)

I finally got to Pricescope and came to this thread to see how others had fared. I had been concerned about Lisa because I knew she was in the storm's path and was very glad to see that she was OK. I hope your puppy is doing well, too, Lisa!!!

As I have said elsewhere, my immediate family is fine, but our town was hit hard and our county was hit harder. I didn't go driving around to look at damage, but friends have given me eyewitness reports of what they have seen in nearby towns. It wouldn't even have been possible for me to see what our beach looked like; the town beach and all other parks were officially closed all week through yesterday and are probably still closed today. Since there is only one small entrance (except by boat) to our town beach, if it is closed no one goes in or out even for a sneak peek on foot. The parks (as of yesterday) still had downed trees and wires that were not completely cleared from the roadways and 56% of the people did not yet have power restored. Schools were closed all last week and may not be re-opened next week. The Thruway (I-95) is always packed with cars. Now the alternative route, The Post Road, has been impassable at times because long lines have formed at gas stations and are blocking the (fairly narrow) Post Road. Gridlock occurs at intersections and tempers fray...and this is from people who are not even in line for gas! It is just people who want to get onto the Post Road!

I will never believe anyone who tells me that our area can be evacuated if a nuclear power plant has a problem. I think I am going to put my trust into wind and solar power. It would be impossible to evacuate people from metropolitan areas if they cannot even move around in suburbia during a storm!

That's all for now. I want to catch up on how other posters did in the storm.

Deb/AGBF
:read:

Deb its good to hear from you and know you're okay too. Its funny, even though you knew you would fall "off the grid" for a while, we still worry until we hear from you... :errrr: Its great that you checked in and even greater that Skippy reached out to you.

Gosh Deb, I am so sorry; I noticed you weren't around PS and started to worry! I will keep your town, family and friends in my prayers! I seriously know you would worry about me too, if I went missing, hugs.

Socool, I will pray they get the power up soon! This is terrible that the power has been down for so long! My heart goes out to everyone.

Lisa, that is awful!

praying for power and safety for all.
