As if losing power and TV wasn't bad enough, woke this morning to no cell signal and no house phone. We've got the house phone back, but we're having to ration the gas in the generator. That means we only put it on for about an hour at a time, turn it off for 4-6 hours, and then turn it back on. That means I only have communication with the outside world for about two hours a day at this point. The power company estimates 10 days to two weeks for restoration.
No one has gas! The one station that did have it had a line going for over a mile, so hubby gave up trying. Getting around out here is a nightmare. There are trees down everywhere. If we leave the house, we can only go to the right instead of going down the road to the left (too many trees down that way). Once you make to route 46, which is a 2-lane road in our area, you can't come back that way because of road closures due to downed power lines. It took my husband over an hour to make it back to the house when it should have been 14 minutes and he had to go all the way up to Rt. 80 in Blairstown to do it...which is about half an hour away.
If I had to choose between the luxury of electricity in the house and having the internet/phone, I'll take the latter. It's like being sequestered from the outside world! I really shouldn't complain. We still have our house and cars, and can siphon gas from the cars when it comes to that. We're alive. The storm has claimed 15 lives in NY, 3 in NJ (including two little boys who were asleep in their beds when a tree fell on the house, killing them, and a total of 30 people on the east coast.
