hi there,
i am shopping for an engagement ring for my future wife. she happened to show me this picture of a ring she liked. can one of you experts help me identify the size of specs of the stones and the setting? too make it near impossible, there is only 1 pic from the top view. thanks!!!image_1731.jpg

IMHO, it is difficult to tell as the same diamonds can have different finger coverage depending on the finger size.

If the OP could provide some indication of your future wife's finger size, then I am certain the experts can come up with a suitable alternative.

The setting looks like a non-knife edge prong set 3-stone ring with plain shank, perhaps this one from Engagement Rings Direct, replacing the diamonds with RBs:

I like the ratio of the smaller side stones to the main stone, and the pic in this thread should provide some idea of the ratio:

Good luck!

DK :))

What is your lady's finger size? We can work backward from that to get you similar proportions. BUT, I'm guessing, if it's a size 5-6 finger that's at least 1.5 carat center stone.

thank you for the replies so far.
her ring size is a 6.

It was bugging me. I KNEW that was a PSer's ring. And I was right. It's Yssie's. And here is a thread with fabulous pics..... so now you have all of these to help you.

That was the good news.
Here is the bad news:

Fvestone - 2.7center, 0.43sides, 0.12ends, finger size 4. Sidestones set higher and angled such that there's no rubbing against adjacent fingers.

So on a size six finger you are talking about nearly 3 carats.

So. I hope you are very financially comfortable. :$$):

2.7 to 3 ct J SI1 center stone willl cost about 30-38k for AGS0. The setting will be about 3.5k in platinum or less in the metall Yssie chose. Two 40 point J SI1 AGS0 stones will run a bit under 3k for the pair. if you add stones 4 and 5 you are lookimg at a few hundred for those too.
Honestly you can go with.a 2.6 9mm stone like this amd it will be close enough and it will knock her socks off: http://m.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/2.625-i-si1-round-diamond-ags-104069785001

If that is out of budget. Perfectly fine. For most it would be. Then you just need to have a talk with your lady about expectations.

Opps technical difficulties. This post below is supposed to be above that last one!

More good news... Yssie's stones are all J's and you can get SI1 stones that are eyeclean for that. So that is very budget friendly. Rhe most important thing to note is rhose are all super ideal hearts and arrows stones that are lab graded by AGS for ideal (0) light return And you can see the perfect arrows in that shot. I believe Yssie brought her diamonds at Whiteflash while Brian Gavin was there so I would recommend stones from Brian Gavin Diamonds. But there are other vendors that would have comparable stones. We can help you with that. Finally that setting is very custom and handforged. It will run at least 3k just for the setting not includug the sidestones. If that is the only pic your lady saw maybe you can do a three stone to save money. Give us a budget and we can help you.

FANTASTIC help Gypsy and DK!

SBK, once you have an idea of your budget for the stone, setting and any side stones you might like, we can go on the hunt to help find you some suitable diamonds, I don't blame your lady for falling for Yssie's ring, it is spectacular.

Ooer, it is a 5-stone and not a 3-stone!

Good job Gypsy has excellent memory and managed to find the original thread.

DK :))

Honestly, just by looking at the first pic I thought that 1: this was a fabulous ring, really stunning, 2: it is not a three but a five stone and the center is at least 2 carats. I was thinking that this will not make OP'S task easy as this is certainly not an inexpensive ring. That said I think with the help of all the helpful posters here OP you can create something gorgeous even if you have to use much smaller stones and a with much lower budget but you should first set your budget and then you can perhaps even go 3 stone. Let me look at a thread on this ring, it has really made an impression on me.

Gypsy - Great job at remembering the ring and finding the earlier post.

Does this mean that the future bride has been looking at PS, or was that picture posted elsewhere, as well?
OP?

That original picture is from pricescope of course, but I have seen it circulate quite a bit on pinterest as well which would be my guess as to where she found it.

thank you very much everyone! you all are amazing. after looking at the rest of the pics, she doesnt like it anymore...

and yes, she saw it on pinterest.

My guess is she likes the look of the 3 stone inspiration ring (even though it's really a 5 stone) with a big center. Maybe the side views of the trellis profile is not what she had in mind, perhaps she was thinking it would be more plain (but I like the swoopy sculptural setting). The 3 stone style is so classic and having a nice sized center diamond is nice! I love the fact its a J color with the side stones all chosen to match and work together, love it!! I believe a budget friendly ring could be made with a 1.5 ct or so center and 0.30 ct side stones. Too bad that Brian Gavin Blue 1.48 ct J is gone (who got that by the way?). That would have been perfect for this project :lickout:

Yssie used to have a three stone with some of the same stones you see in the 5 stone pictured above.

I posted the link to it above. But here are some pics:

Here is that setting for you at Whiteflash: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/three-stone/3-stone-butterflies-diamond-engagement-ring-230.htm It's got six prongs on the center stone, which your lady might like.

This is actually my favorite three stone setting. Ask your lady if she likes this: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/open-gallery-accented-platinum-5448phttp://www.pricescope.com/ It's got four prongs on the center stone.

Here are some stones that would be great for a three stone with similar proportions to the ORIGINAL pictures your lady liked:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/12133/ (Only 25k!)
GOG can source you matching sidestones at J SI1 and 40 points.

Three stone suite that matches very well and have great numbers and idealscopes:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3097225.htm Center
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3056928.htm Side
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3055243.htm Side

And this one, posted above:
http://m.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/2.625-i-si1-round-diamond-ags-104069785001
And BGD can source matching sidestones or you could buy the two 40 pointers from Whiteflash I linked to above.

And both Brian Gavin and Whiteflash do lovely custom work. So if you lady likes a particular setting, they could make her anything she wanted, to her exact specifications.

Not sure if it helps but I had a 3 stone version of Yssie's ring made with a suite of lower colored OEC's. The metal is 18k unplated white gold which gives it the creamy look. My finger was a size 6 in the photos but the ring is 6.25. If anything it will give you an idea of proportions.

Center is 2.08ct and the sides are around .66ctw I believe. My ring has some minor changes from Yssie's, but I'm not sure most people would notice.
