I have finally decided that I want a plain solitaire e-ring, with an eternity wedding band. :appl:

These are the things I want in my e-ring, but I can't seem to find the perfect one:
tapered band
fairly thin/delicate
one that doesn't sit up too high
one that will sit flush to an eternity band
and...
something that makes it a little unique, not just a plain solitaire... such as, surprise diamonds, diamonds on the prongs, etc.

BUT- no pave diamonds on the band. I want it to be plain and contrast with an eternity band :D

Please help me find my dream ring!

I found a Scott Kay mounting that has all of these things- but I am afraid it is too thick. I believe it is either 2mm or 2.5mm. My ring size is a 5 and I just do not want something too thick and bulky on my little hands.... But the jeweler I talked with said it should be a substantial size since it will be supporting a DIAMOND... What does everyone think? I'll post a photo of this mounting.

Just for reference, my center diamond will be a round brilliant, between 1.5 - 2 carats. (I tried on a 1.75 carat that was GORGEOUS :naughty: )

Have I made any sense??

I would appreciate everyone's help!!! Thanks!

Here is the Scott Kay mounting. Of course, my wedding band will be a full eternity, perhaps a little smaller than the one pictured.

www.theartofplatinum.com Leon Mege does a gorgeous solitaire. I have seen it done with surprise stones in the shank.

Not sure what your budget is, but this solitaire fits all your parameters..

2mm is quite standard. Any thinner will be substantially more prone to bending.

Thanks Kaleigh, I'll check that out.

Something I forgot to add.... I prefer 4 prongs, and am not a fan of knife-edge.

These photos are courtesy to mark morrell, if he feels i should remove it i will

Just an idea to see if you may like the look, I would think the crown can be tailored to house round diamond.

this is how high it sits, (delete the paved diamonds)

I may have to resort to custom designing. I've been looking at Brian Gavin website... Anyone else? Besides Leon Mege, I think he is a bit over our price range.

WhiteFlash, HighPerformanceDiamond I know can do custom too. I think EngagementRingDirect and IDJewelry does custom too, not quite sure.

B.E.G, I JUST came across that ring! I absolutely LOVE it! I was actually looking at Brian Gavin's Grace setting, and thought that I could get it custom made with diamonds on the basket to resemble Kticern's ring.

This makes me very excited.

Do you think an eternity band would still sit flush with the Grace setting?

It probably will not, there is a round base for the head that protrudes from the band.

I love the Grace setting! Very beautiful and classic, and adding the diamonds would give it a nice unique twist.

You should ask BGD if they can make the donut smaller so that the ring could sit as flush as possible. My friend has the Grace setting though, and the gap is very small when paired with a band.

Oh, this is so exciting. B.E.G, that's a good idea. I found a few pictures of the Grace setting paired with a band, and the gap seems to be very small. Now- what do you think about having them making the band tapered a bit? Or would that just be too much and create an even bigger gap between the ring and the wedding band?

Probably not taper as that will weaken the setting, usually tapered setting has an increase in height as the band taper.

Plus i think the gap will be a bit more noticeable. Although personally, I adore the tapered band - especially in the Mark Morrell rings. I think it would look great either way so it'll come down to how you feel about a small gap in the end. I can't wait to see how your ring comes out - I think it's going to be gorgeous! :)

Here's Sparkle Castle's 4-prong Petite Torchiere. You can see what Stone Cold means when he says the taper adds some height (I love this setting too btw - I think it's similar to Doc's but without the diamonds on the shank) - https://www.pricescope.com/communit...ark-morrell-modified-petite-torchiere.134997/. However, in this setting, I don't think the diamond is really high overall, despite the added height the taper gives it.

ETA: Another example - MWM setting - non-cathedral four-prong with tapered shank - I think this one is fairly low set overall too - this is PrettyLight's ring - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-avc-mwm-masterpiece.148840/

B.E.G. - I have been looking at the Grace as well. What gap are you referring to? Do you not think this is a good ring choice?

I really like that MM design. Brian's team is also great to work with and I am certain he can design to your desires. If he can't he'll be real honest about why that isn't a good idea.

Oh I think it's a gorgeous setting. I've seen it in person as well, and it's just beautiful in its classic simplicity.

However, there is a small donut at the base of the head of the setting (the little circle thing under the head) and it sticks out a bit, so when you wear a wedding band with it, there will be a slight gap between the two rings. Some people really like the gap (and it's really not big at all), and some want their rings to be completely flush against each other. It's very much a preference thing (I've gone from not liking a gap at all to actually really liking a small gap). If you really like the Grace and don't want a gap, you should talk to BGD about reducing the donut size and see how that works. But again, it's really not that big a gap. LynnB is the one who has the original Grace setting with a matching band - I would do a search of her topics and look at pics that she has of the two together.

ETA: Here is Lynn's reset thread - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/bgd-solitaire-reset-is-done-pics-pics-pics.131605/

And a pic of her Grace w/ the matching band, and one with her old fishtail band - you can see a small gap
