I had contacted Gene of Precision Gem to see if he had any rough that he may cut into a cushion or cut cornered stone that would be around 7mm+. He finished the cutting and sent me a picture just now. It is 2.09ct and 7.2mm.

I've never bought a loose colored stone before. What do you think of this stone, the color, etc? I'm new to colored stones so I would like some guidance please! Thanks in advance!

That is a really pretty stone. Rhodolites can come from pinkish red to purply red to murky red that blacks out. This one looks to be bright and a very pretty color. The brilliant pavilion with checkerboard crown will make for a very sparkly stone!

THAT is a beautiful stone!

It is gorgeous, don't worry, you did extremely well. :appl: Gene only picks the best material and he cuts a great stone.

If you decide against it, it will last about 10 minutes on his site.

Saturation is excellent, IMHO. Do I see red flashes? Wow. . . :cheeky:

Lovely.

I agree with iLander and Vapid. It's very pretty! I love the color.

Good job! :))

Yay! Thanks for the quick responses ilander, vapidlapid, and burberrygirl. I'll definitely scoop this up then! I just wanted to check in with the pros first :wink2:. I think Daniel M will be setting this. I contacted him for quotes last week and I was surprised how reasonable they were!

Another great choice! Daniel M is wonderful to work with. I just finished my second project with them. They are so fast and such nice people! Are you thinking of setting the garnet in a ring?

Yeah I think I'm leaning towards a ring. Here are crude paint renderings of two styles I got quotes on:
The first is with north south baguettes bezeled w/ milgrain, the second tapered baguettes bezeled w/ milgrain. I might do something different for this stone. I'm not 100% certain yet. Here were rings I was inspired by: I think some of these belong to PSers.

I don't know if I want the center bezeled or prong set. I also like this Heart of Water ring: I like the simplicity of this ring.

Any suggestions?

That is a lovely stone!!! And I vote bezel, bezel bezel!!! I really like that Sally (Heart of Water) ring.

Gorgeous stone  The color is amazing and the french button is one of my favorites! That Heart of Water setting is great, too; the millegraining looks really well done. I have to take another look at their site.

I am leaning toward the HOW setting or something similar to it. The only thing I'm worried about is it being too similar to my e-ring. If I did two toned metals maybe that would make it different enough. White gold bezel with a rose gold band maybe?

Beautiful stone. I am now careful with bezeling stones that can become darker, but it is just my opinion.

i vote bezel as a garnet actually needs its edges protected if you plan to wear this ring 24/7 and/or a lot. garnets actually should not be worn 24/7 and removed when at home doing housework, gardening, washing dishes, etc. otherwise, it looks to be a lovely stone. and gene is a wonderful gemstone cutter as well as a fine human being!

Ask him how extinct it goes in certain lighting. I would tend to shy away from bezeling a darker rhodolite, or one that tends to go extinct, because it will only darken the stone.

Looks like a very pretty rhodolite. I'm another in the camp for setting this in prongs and not to bezel it because rhodolites have a tendency to go extinct or at least darken up very easily.

That is a really pretty stone. I like the checkerboard top and the color is practically edible. :lickout:

I really like your ring designs. The Deco looking one with the double prongs, baguettes, and milgrain is my favorite.

Okay so I've purchased the garnet now :appl: . I'm still at a loss about how to set it. Does anyone have any other suggestions for something different, unusual, etc. or any other Etsy vendors? Any thoughts on this ring -
