Please help pick my blue sapphire

Hiya All - hope everyone is having a good day/evening :)

I do agree that the video doesn't show the blue colour that I like from Sarahbear's photo. But i also appreciate, that it could be the technique that it has been filmed. I've asked my jeweler if she got the sapphire from gemfix, and she said no, but she did say that she went there to look at sapphires within my budget and nothing really stood out.

I do trust this jeweler loads, and she asked for second opinions also while searching for gemstone (in the same building where her studio is). I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that the sapphire will look amazing!

I will keep you all posted of which sapphire and the ring with photos of course!! :)

Pregcurious,
That blue sapphire Leon Mege ring belongs to DianaBanana.

Kathness,
I wish you the best with your jeweller. I find videos, in general, tend to be more representative of the stone over still pictures. What are your options should the stone be not what you are looking for when you pick up the completed ring in NY?

Honestly they are all very dark with more purple then blue. Is this your color preference or what the jeweler was able to to procure? Some people like darker sapphires, but my perference is a more med. blue with violot understones similar to the example below. Because of the color I would not get any of them.

Did they disclose treatment/ heating etc?

Sarahbear, is this your ring? It looks like its from LM, based on the box.

Eeee gads No!!!! I could only dream! This stunning ring belongs to another PSer- DianaBanana. The sapphire was cut by Jeff White and the setting is my LM. I have saved it in my inspiration folder for years as I absolutely love it. Here is her thread about it!

OP- honestly please excuse my bluntess but I'm only trying to help. I don't believe your jeweler, no matter how great their intensions are, will find you anything close to the sapphire I posted. You should tell them you will source it yourself and have them just price out the setting. If this is your ering I would not settle. Just my .02cents.

EDIT: Thanks Chrono! I posted at the same time! It took me a while to find the thread on the DB's ring.

Thanks Chrono! I will definitely still keep the ring :). I like to collect them (just started) :). Quite addictive!!! I'm already looking forward to the next project.

Sarahbear - i do love the honesty of the people in this forum and definitely value and welcome all your opinions! In my eyes you guys know a lot more than me :).

I will post photos of the ring when I collect it :)

You might not know this so ignore this advice if you already do: it is very difficult to find a particular stone to fit a setting. As you can tell, it is time consuming just to find the right stone without the constraint of having it to fit a set of measurements (LxW) so it could take up to a year to find a stone that fits an empty setting, especially if it isn't a calibrated size or a common shape.

Hi Chrono - definitely taking this advice! I've seen some of your post regarding this and I decided to go on custom design settings where the dimension of the stone is the priority in creating the setting :)

Thanks, Chrono.

i got my CAD design back :)!!!

with my CAD design :)

me too!!!

I was thinking of getting matching oval halo earrings... i just got a quote for it and it's way too expensive in my opinion...

What is the going rate for a pair of Blue Oval Sapphire halo earrings these days?

What sizes are you looking at? Remember that there are two stones and two settings all in all.

i've been quoted - 2 blue sapphire for $600 for both... 6x4 mm. I don't mind paying more for the sapphire...but the earring setting is 5 times more than the pair of the stones.. is that the going rate?? I went to gemfix site couldnt find an oval pair :(

$600 for a pair of 6x4 mm sapphires can be either expensive or inexpensive depending on the quality. My guess is that they are closer to commercial quality for the price. $1500 for each earring setting sounds about right, especially since they are a diamond halo setting. I think your ring setting costs just over the price of one earring, correct? So multiply that by two since you need a pair of earrings. If you select a calibrated sized pair, you don't need to go custom with the earring settings and can get a more affordable stock item.

Thanks Chrono! The price of the e-ring is similar to the pair of earrings quoted.

Where can i find a calibrated sized pair? Is there any PS vendors that would sell sapphires & also create earrings? I don't really want to go towards the custom route for earrings :(.

6x4 mm is a calibrated size so you should be able to find the earring settings very easily. Your most cost effective option is to get the stones and setting yourself. You can get your local jeweller to order the halo earring setting from Stuller and such places or get them from the vetted eBay setting vendors.

I don't like that window on the cushion. The one in the middle would be my favorite because it's the most sparkly.

Thanks Chrono! I will keep a look out for calibrated stones and get it set locally! :)

I agree out of the 3 , the middle one is a bit more sparkly! But i didnt go for any of those 3 in the end :)

my jeweller will put a video up this weekend! Once I have it, I will take more pictures!

I'm hoping to pick it up by end of May, it really depends when SK completes my other ring.
