More Wood Ducks

Sometimes I get the impression that they've had enough of me and my camera.

Just thought I'd share this here, it's not mine but thought the view of the action is awesome. A 14 foot trailerboat was battling a Marlin when another boat got out their drone and began recording. It shows a unique angle of the excitement and an angle of the release that I reckon is just brilliant.

Thanks, Jordy!

Very interesting! The video gives a glimpse of the strength of these beautiful creatures! I'd want to be in a much bigger boat, though, dealing with fish this large.

They are amazing animals indeed, I never get sick of seeing them up close and personal. You're right about having a bigger boat, mine is only slightly bigger than theirs but much better suited for 'dive for cover' protection. They managed to just get out of the way at 1.00 into the video when it jumps off the front of the boat, luckily it was only a small fish!

Back with more photos!

Just my opinion, of course, but if you have so much food in your cheeks that your eyes are squeezed shut, is it time to stop?

Out for a run. On the lake! :o

A cold, strong wind blew across the river and created some interesting natural art.

Very neat December-fire! I've been so busy I've not really taken my camera out much. The dog thanks me of course

He's telling you to go away so that he can continue to work on impressing the lady.

In the middle of the Chicago River (which some of you may remember The Demon jumped into once and Bill had to swim across to get him out!) are pylons by a bridge that I walk over on the way to work. Every year in one particular spot a goose lays eggs on one of the pylons. This is how I know spring has really sprung!

Momma Goose close up. There's a big nest built underneath her.

Thanks, Arcadian!

The happiness of your dog is much more important than taking photos! Of course, if you happen to take your camera with you while out with your dog, I'd love to see the photos. And if your dog is in the pictures, even better!

Yes, I think you're right, Chrono!

When the man in my life saw the photo he said it looked like the male was checking out the female's backside. Ahhh, Spring. :))

Dee Jay,

I love this! It must be great to see the Momma return each Spring and watch the process of the next generation coming to life!

Seeing wildlife or beautiful scenery on the way to or from work is wonderful! (Although, I imagine the walk across the bridge can be rather chilly during the Chicago winters!)

When I read your comment about The Demon jumping into the Chicago River, I was excited to learn about this myth or legend. I left the PS website, googled Chicago River Demon, and one of the suggestions lead back to PS! Glad your husband and dog survived the adventure. They're officially legends!

I'm not a fan of anyone taking my photo while I'm eating.
However, I seem to turn the camera on others while they're dining.
I know. Not very considerate.

Warning: Don't try this at home! This is wildlife, folks. Not a game.

Hmmm, nice watch.

Crystal24K,

Beautiful photos!

The rhinoceros photo is wonderful! Such a gentle moment between two very tough creatures. Lovely!

I consider rhinoceros to be the army tanks of the wildlife kingdom. Except they're more agile and can switch direction faster than a tank. Definitely not an animal one would want to annoy!

Glad you enjoy the thread.

Thanks for sharing your photos! :wavey:

Being out and about with my camera, I've met lots of lovely people who have generously shared their knowledge of nearby locations for wildlife and taught me about some of the many birds in the area.

A number of people mentioned Bohemian Waxwings. A term I'd never heard of and didn't even know referred to a type of bird!

The other day, I not only saw Bohemian Waxwings for the first time but also managed to get photos of them! :appl:

Please don't interpret my excitement as an indication that these lovely birds are rare. They aren't. Just new to me!

The berries in the photo below are a source of food for Bohemian Waxwings.

One more of the Bohemian Waxwing.

Went looking for Mr Shark again recently and got a visit from some lost humpbacks. Usually they go north from Antarctica for the winter but don't come into Bass Strait, rather cut across the front of it and keep going north to the Great Barrier Reef. I'd suspect the East Australian Current may have pushed into the strait and they've followed it in there.
