Please share your photos of nature, wildlife, etc.

I took the picture on my cell phone this summer of a sunset. I wish my camera had been with me. The colors were amazing.

Breathtaking!
Sunsets and sunrises can be mesmerizing with their incredible displays!
Cell phones take great photos, thank goodness, so even if a person doesn't have a typical camera with them, if they've got a cell phone, they can still capture the image.

Thanks for sharing this gorgeous sunset with us! =)2

Chicago River.

IMG_6879.JPG

The river has a sheen of ice across the whole thing, which is pretty rare.

This was the next day. A barge must have gone down and broken the ice because it wasn't warm enough to break up on its own.

Gorgeous pics Dee. I bet you don’t miss our neck of the woods. Look at it this AM. 2 days after the “warm up”. As Greg texted we live in the Arctic circle these days lol. Photos by my DH this morning.

Beautiful additions! Thanks for sharing!

These were taken through my window on an overcast day, so not great quality.
But I think this is an immature Cooper's Hawk!
First time seeing one, and he was in my neighbour's tree checking out my backyard for a snack.
The squirrels and 'typical' backyard birds seemed very happy with the bird feeders and (heated and non-heated) bird baths I've put in my backyard over the past two years.
However, I suspect they're not impressived with the recent visits I've had from a Merlin, Sharp-Shinned Hawk and now Cooper's Hawk.

Interesting fact: the Cooper's Hawk has yellow eyes which become red as he matures.
Hence, this must be an immature guy - or gal.

Note: I'm new to a lot of this stuff, so please correct me if I am wrong in my identification or information.

Please don't yell at me.
I did not give the blueberry bagel to this porcupine.
He already had it when I came across him.
I did, however, convince him to cancel his coffee order.

@Karl_K , that porcupine is even cuter in black and white! :lol-2:

I hope you don't mind, but I've taken the liberty of presenting one of my photos in black and white myself, rather than leave it for you to do. You may feel differently, but I thought black and white suited this mourning dove.

First the colour version because I find the soft blue eye liner interesting.
Next the black and white which I think better displays the shape of the beak.

Frozen dinner tonight.
This sweet pony had to paw the ground to clear the snow off his evening snack.

lol, why should I mind?
It does make the beak stand out more.
Often with dark shadows across the subject b&w doesn't work that well, but that one it actually brings out more detail.
Good job!

Stunning pic!!!!! I could so hang that on my wall.

A Snowy Owl!

A wonderful surprise sighting tonight! I'm so glad I had my camera with me.
The sun had set when I happened to spot her on the pole, so the photo is quite grainy. She then flew to the tree stump which allowed me to face West, thereby benefiting from the last bit of sunset.
What a thoughtful girl!

Hopefully, I'll see her again during daylight.

I want to put this on my wall also.....

@Karl_K , I love the alterations you made! =)2
What a great idea to work with the graininess of the first owl photo and give it an 'old' look!
The cropped, black and white version of the owl on the tree is lovely.

This really was a thoughtful owl. When she flew off the tall pole, I had no idea she was heading to a more photo-friendly location with an interesting tree stump.

December-fire, do you have a photography website where people can buy downloads or prints of your work? Your photos are stunning and that porcupine is just so adorable. I would love to hang that pic in my home!

@dazzle66 , oh my goodness, you're too kind! Thank you.
I'm just loving a new hobby and trying to improve upon the results.
I'm toying with the idea of moving out of the 'hobby' universe at some point, but that requires more than a handful of lucky shots. Maybe down the road.
Meanwhile, I'm getting so much enjoyment out of wildlife photography - I love it and am totally addicted! - and I'm thrilled that others get some enjoyment out of the photos.
Thank you.
:wavey:

December-fire- your photos are just so beautiful!! I agree you really should be entering contests. Looks like you are enjoying your new camera and lens!

I've hardly been on PS for over a year (very sick, chronically ill dog which left me emotionally and physically drained). So nice to catch up on your gorgeous photos! You also have so many interesting species of birds that I never see around where I live so your photos are not only beautiful, but educational too. Thanks for posting them! :appl:

Thank you, pinkjewel.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog.
Its terrible when a much-loved pet is sick. We can feel so helpless at times.
And, yes, definitely draining.
Sending hugs and hoping your sweet dog is as comfortable as possible.

Aw, thanks December-fire. Unfortunately she didn't make it-but she fought hard for almost 2 years. I'm slowly getting back to previous fun activities and photography is tops on my list.

I'm so sorry to hear about your sweetie. :(2
I was fortunate to have an amazing, wonderful dog in my life.
She passed years ago, but the memories still warm my heart.
She was truly special and irreplaceable.
If you are so inclined, there is a thread for photos of furbabies. Maybe at some point you might want to share photos of your sweetheart.

That's wonderful that you're going to get into (or return to?) photography.
I hope it provides a sense of healing and peace for you.
Please share photos with us, whatever your preferred subject matter; wildlife, nature, doesn't matter.

I'm fortunate to have 2 more fluffs to keep me busy and smiling. I'll look up the fur baby thread and post a picture or 2 of my little sweetie- I do miss her so much.

I've always enjoyed photography- just haven't gotten too serious about it (yet-lol) I did take these fun photos of the Chinese Lantern Festival last month. Do these count as wildlife?:mrgreen:L1060930.jpgL1060959.jpg L1060953.jpg

It's been so cold around here that I am dreaming of summer. Here are a few busy bees I snapped in my garden a couple of summers ago. Cats are not the only ones who love catmint!
