The hummingbirds have hatched!
Mommy is still sitting on them. A few minutes ago I took a chance and ran out there with a hand mirror when she was away from the nest. The nest is about the size of a shot glass
I quickly looked in, and there are two tiny little lumps, instead of eggs. About the size of pinto beans.
I couldn't get a detailed look, because it is kinda dark under the eave. I won't be bothering her again, just one quick look and I'm done. I don't want to upset her at all.
But here she is sitting on the babies. Directly above the wind chime.IMG_20210722_194309140~2.jpg

DH managed to get a good photo of the baby hummingbirds in the nest. There are two of them tucked in there.

Gillette Castle State Park East Haddam, CT

This was a second stop after visiting a horse sanctuary. It’s a fun drive because you pass the Goodspeed Opera house on the way. I know this is less than picturesque, my son took the picture as we drove by:

More baby hummingbird photos!
DH took this photo today.

That's so neat. I hope one of them is a male as it will make it a lot easier to identify what kind of Hummingbirds they are as they get older. Please let us keep following them with you.

I saw her hovering yesterday in the sunlight and she looks green, so maybe Anna's hummingbird.

yes, maybe. I think a few of the different kinds of females look similar to each other which is why I'm hoping one of the babies is a male. I have no idea how long it takes for the males to start showing their colors. I guess I have more research to do =)2

just found this. I guess it can take quite a while for the males to get their color so as to distinguish them from females.

Dexter (our cat) was staring out the window purring. The only time this cat purrs is when he is eating or thinks he’s going to get to kill something.

Yup, baby bunny. This is why he is strictly indoors! :naughty:

Ahh! Whadda sweet bunny!
Down Dexter, down!

The hummingbird babies are growing fast!
They are testing their wings and may fly away any day now.

Vacation a couple of weeks ago at one of the reservoir lakes in the Ozark Mountains. Pics were taken shortly after sunrise from a morning when my wife and I decided to let the teens sleep in, so we went out for a coffee and cookies breakfast cruise out on the lake...just the two of us.

This week I came up with taking the kids on an ice cream tour of CT. This was at the farm we visited yesterday, it really was a beautiful spot with all the flowers in bloom.

I shared the baby bunny in the pet thread but figured I’d add him here too. He was a tiny little thing, we are overrun with bunnies this year!

Baby hummers are gone! It was 4 weeks ago that I first saw the eggs.
They were there at 7:30 am, but gone at 10am. We saw one nearby, but then it flew off. Look at all the poo they left behind!IMG_20210814_102737691.jpg

Wow. And they’re so tiny. I don’t believe they come back to the nest once they leave but please let us know if they do.

I am sad that they are gone, but I was honored to have the opportunity to watch them grow!
Now I have empty nest syndrome....:lol-2:

I would have empty nest syndrome too. I took my birdfeeders down because there is a mysterious bird virus infecting birds in the east and they recommended that we take them down so now I don’t really have any birds coming other than I did leave the hummingbird feeder because they’re not supposed to be affected.

There is a LOT of smoke in Boise this weekend.

Yesterday, as I was finishing my morning walk with Resa I looked up and saw a "sunset" at ten in the morning. NMidday sunset wmidday sunset.jpg

One of those unreal and "must share" moments...

Taken with my phone.

Wink

Wow. Sorry that you have all the smoke, but that's a great photo.
