what is it?

At first glance, I thought of frost on a window pane.

But I ruled that out. I'm used to seeing frost that doesn't appear so densely-packed. Not sure how to explain it.

So I'm sticking with long grass.

I don't think its frost.

Or a puppy.
I don't think its a puppy.

But you didn't ask 'What is it NOT'. So maybe I should hush now.

yep close enough :}
close up of recently mowed grass or what passes for grass here it is about 50% weeds.
The wide ones you noticed are the weeds.

So I called your recently mowed grass 'long grass or hay'!

Please excuse me while I pull my foot out of my mouth. Again.

And thank you for showing us how things can be viewed in a different light. :))

rofl no biggie.
Your welcome I used to love doing this kind of stuff in the darkroom where it sometimes took days.
While it is tons easier these days the art is lost.

On the way out this morning, taken on my friend's phone. As I type this on my phone we are a few miles off the coast and waiting for a Shark to show up at the boat. The good life!!

If memory is correct, that is the Blue Morpho butterfly from Brasil. It was once used in the millions and millions of wings to make art for the tourists with the bright blue iridescence under glass to create beautiful yet tragic images.

Here are two pictures that I found, nowhere near as nice as some of the trays and pictures I saw when I lived in Brasil back in the early 70's.

I believe that this is now forbidden in Brasil, which by no means means that it is not happening still. Just means that it is not happening openly.

Jordy,

What a beautiful, dream-like photo! Thanks for sharing it! :wavey:

Did Mr. Shark come out to play?

I find that so sad to think of butterflies being killed for art. :(sad

I understand hunters who view animals with respect and use every part of the animal; meat for food, fur for warmth, etc.
But butterflies?
Perhaps there is some horrible consequence of butterfly overpopulation of which I'm not aware? :read:

Did Mr. Shark come out to play?

He did! And he brought a couple mates with him as well! We had 3 of them circling the boat and hooked 2, lost one due to the hook straightening out and tagged the other and released it so it can be tracked by scientists. Unfortunately I couldn't get pics as it was madness at first with just 2 of us and then the hook fell out as we were getting the camera for the tagged shark. Next time!

Jordy,

Two people in a boat being circled by three sharks, one of whom is saying to the other two 'No, you guys go ahead. I'm trying to watch my figure.'

Fun times.

On a serious note, its amazing what we can learn with today's technology.

Thanks for your part in allowing us to gather more information and learn about the fascinating creatures around us.

OK, well, around you and your mate in the boat.

Judging the way they kept biting at my motor and onto the side of the boat I don't think they were too worried about their figure

My father had a fish recaptured earlier this year and he just got his recapture certificate for it, the information we got was amazing. The fish was at liberty for 35 days between catches and travelled 250 miles down the coast, a good indicator that our techniques are healthy for the fish. Marine scientists also got a very valuable piece of info from the recapture as well that may indicate why our recapture rates are less than 1%; the barnacle growth on the original tag after only 35 days was crazy, the added drag may cause them to fall out of fish. The marine biologist I spoke with has indicated that he's going to look into new coatings for the tags to slow down growth.
I'd put pics up of the certificate and the barnacle-covered tag from the guy who recaptured the fish but they're not exactly nature/wildlife!

Jordy,

Post away!

See the 'etc.' in the thread title. :))

That's, indeed, valuable information to discover the rate of barnacle growth!

Kudos to your Dad.

I am going to post some of my flowers from my yard.

Here is a bright and beautiful crocus.

And here one of my Blushing Beauty Tulips.

In the Spring when the Syringa bloom and the bees are everywhere buzzing around, I love to stand in the bush and meditate while breathing in the deep rich scent. It is an incredible experience. I used to be afraid of bees, now they seem like friends.

That is enough for now.

Wink, lovely shots of your beautiful flowers. I used to be afraid of bees, too. The more I garden, the less fearful I become, and the more I learn about how important they are to the world's food supply, the more I respect them. Ok, I still scream and run away sometimes when they "sneak" up on me (they don't; I am often just totally relaxed and oblivious in the garden and am the one bothering them).

OK, so 3 pics here. One of the recapture certificate, one of the tag with all the growth and one of the fish when it was recaptured. All names and faces have been removed to protect the reader

Wink,

What beautiful flowers! Thank you for sharing them with us.
Such a lovely sight!
Especially given the current weather in my location; snow and freezing rain.

Jordy,

Thanks for posting the photos!
Very interesting to see all the barnacles after 35 days.
And what a beautiful fish!
