Hello, just wanted to share these beautiful pics from our ice storm, 2 days ago. I'm not a fan of the cold, but this was truly something :)20230217_110410.jpg

I'm fairly new here, but my other hobby, albeit less $$$ but more labor intensive, is gardening with native plants. My very small urban yard is a National Wildlife Federation certified habitat and a monarch waystation. I've "raised" generations of bluebirds and people freak out because they get mobbed by butterflies when they come over in the summer and fall. IMG_8520.jpg20210702_152701.jpg

beautiful! I've never seen a Bluebird. Love the Monarchs. Haven't seen as many around here as I used to but my Butterfly bushes died so maybe that's why.

Thank you! All you need is some native milkweed for your area and they will come.

I used to dream of becoming a lepidopterologist when I was a young boy. I raised many butterflies and moths from eggs to adults. I am curious, where do you research doing a small native species garden?

My first introduction was reading Douglas Tallamy's books, then I joined my state's native plant society and started going to native plant sales. For design ideas, I liked The Living Landscape: Designing for Beauty and Biodiversity in the Home Garden and also Houzz.

Here is a duck I saw dipping for her food. This is one of my favorite Hen Mallard shots...

This is a terrific shot! I love watching waterfowl eat like this! Mallards are close to favourites of mine. Seeing big Canada Geese, or swans do this is quite something. :kiss2:

We have so many geese in the Spring/Summer by our ponds.. They cross back and forth from the ponds to our house, all day long sometimes :D It's really cute!

A couple pics of "our" geese, as I call them.. with the babies :kiss2:

Adding that I also LOVE antique brooches with wildlife theme, like these. The victorian period was so great about these

Love this thread so much!

Beautiful feet! I will pay attention to their feet next time.

Love how cedar waxwings congregate in big flocks, sitting high in the morning sunshine, singing their songs.

I've never seen one. I just googled them and apparently they are all over the lower 48 states, but not in my yard. I'll keep looking though. Every once in a while a new bird will show up, maybe once or twice, and if I'm lucky I can get a photo.

More seals from yesterday...they are beautiful

It reminds me of blue tourmaline quartz crystal.
