I am close to pressing the button on a delicate halo setting for my aqua, and just need the final encouragement to do it! Going for the setting in sterling silver, with a very delicate scalloped halo. I have the CAD image ... Wondering though whether there's anything I've missed.

Really keen to see examples of coloured stone halos for comparison.

Thanks

PS ill show the image for reference

Very nice! Is the shank the same width all around or is it tapered slightly as it approaches the center stone? Also, would you consider adding a teeny tiny melee where the prongs are instead of having the 4 prongs break the flow of the design? Without knowing the proportions of the ring and stone size, the prongs look huge relative to the halo. Any profile view of the setting?

This isn't mine but I lust over it. The prongs are not a part of the halo, which is what I was trying to draw in the edited CAD above.

wow, that's a beautiful halo, Chrono. The large metal prongs on the OP's CAD are what was bothering me,too. Other than that- it looks very pretty.

Below please find a photo of what I think is a very pretty and unique ring with an oval sapphire centerstone and a diamond halo. The linked halo style is different than yours; the linked halo is more art deco (more angular, less organic), but it's another example of a successful (IMO) unique halo.

This ring isn't mine. This photo is from an auction website, skinnerinc.com, but isn't it lovely as an aspirational pic? :naughty:

Good luck with your piece!

A more scalloped look

Wow, those are gorgeous Sarahbear and Chrono! Unbelievably nice and the delicacy of the halos makes me rethink my definition of halos. Those are gorgeous!

OP: I love the elegance, delicacy and proportion of the halo on your ring, but I agree with Chrono that it would be nice to do something with the prongs to make them more integrated - to stand out less as separate from the halo. All in all, though, your ring looks like it will be a stunner. Congrats. :cheeky:

5 carat blue tourmaline. Love this stone!

Thanks for all of these examples. The prongs are going to be rosé gold, (a little risk) the rest silver. So they will stand out and actually I have specifically designed them to break the flow a little so that it isn't quite a round halo.

Getting the right shape to the halo has been the challenge. Initially it was scalloped individually around each stone but for me that looked too antique for the stone. It is a 9.6mm cushion, so I am trying to give an overall round effect, because all my other rings are square.

This side profile was with the individual scallop, so it will be a bit smoother now. I think given CADs are always bulky, the prongs should turn out okay as they will of course be filed down, and I should end up almost with 4 half moon shapes. In all honesty though, I probably did start of wanting it to weave around a little more but using two inspiration pics this is what they have created which I think will be lovely and a little unique.

Yes, there is a taper in the cathedral setting as well from 3mm to 1.5mm

It looks great! Is it at all possible to just slightly angle the halo downwards --- just a slight angle --- to give it some softness and then highlight the centre as the 'main attraction'?

I like it. I like how the prongs break up the halo, although I hope they're more refined in the finished product. I think it will look spectacular.

heres a few i like, one from a ring thats currently on eBay then MiriamS lovely necklace

Sarahbear the rosé gold scallop ring you've posted is gorgeous. Love it!

Oh, a 2 tone setting. It's going to look awesome! I second the suggestion of angling the halo downwards a little to soften the "flying saucer" appearance. Breaking up the halo with rose gold prongs is a great idea. Just don't let the prongs overpower the halo. I would still make them a touch smaller than shown.

Thanks Chrono, I have asked about angling the halo slightly as I think that is a great idea. I haven't heard back yet but hoping it will be easily doable. Then I think it's good :appl:

Sarahbear,do you know the origin of the green stone setting? Sorry, no idea if its an aqua etc, but its a fascinating setting.

Thank you

Sarahbear,
I, too, have a request, if you don't mind. Looking for a EW halo for a very large oval stone. Doesn't matter if it is modern or antique but I prefer something different from the usual plain halo.

Here are a couple more unusual halos that aren't mine, but are lovely inspirations.
