Hello,

I am newbie in pricescope. I am currently seeking a pink sapphire. I am struggled between two pink sapphire.
THe first one is a 1.11 ct medium to medium dark pink with orange hue on it (around $750). ANd the second one is 1.4ct baby pink sapphire with round brilliant cut (around $1300). The second gem is a little bit above my budget but i like its colour and the brilliant cut which make the sapphire sparkle. Could you guys give me some advice?? many many thanks!!!

This is the first one!

Here comes the second.

Could you ask for a handshot of the 1.4ct pink? Do you prefer one shape over another?

I like TGT one best, but I love orange pink sapphires.

I agree that it would be best to ask for hand shots for both. I would like to see that the oval doesn't have any zoning (it's a very pretty colour!) and that the round has enough saturation to actually appear when placed on a hand (very delicate).

The majority of vendors are happy to provide an extra shot or two. If you're not sure of either of these, you could always give us a budget and a colour swatch and we could find something for you.

Must it be a sapphire? Spinel is as hard wearing and has better dispersion (fire) particularly in pastel colours.
These are both on the 6th row at http://www.gemfix.com/spinel.html and around the price of the oval above. Rest you cursor of on the little pictures to see a larger version of it in handshots.

I am okay with any shape :)

Now that I know you're open to other shapes, that emerald cut is my favorite

Isn't it lovely??? I wonder how the setting should be in order to make the emerald cut stands out :naughty: :naughty:

Very poorly cut, and it has a small window, and the color is very unsaturated.

For that price, I would definitely go with a spinel. You can get ones that same color for much less money, and probably better cut. JMO.

I think sapphires are great, but sapphires are often more saturated than spinels, so if you're going with a very unsaturated sapphire, might as well go with a spinel.

TL beat me to it. Those fingers are also very pink (so might indicate the colour is still off).

Also before you get too carried away with the emerald cut, I'd want to see a hand shot of that too. That photo shows mainly facet flash. Look at the dark pink on the left... I would suggest the real colour is somewhere closer to that.

Have you seen many emerald cut coloured stones? It might be good to take a tour of some local jewellers to see that while a well cut emerald shape will give lovely broad flashes of colour, it won't have anywhere near the sparkle of another shape. To my mind it's a very different look particularly since they are also prone to large tilt windows which I believe has a lot to do with the matching of cut/facet pattern (given angles) to the refractive index of the particular gem material. Not all patterns are suitable for all gems which is why there are a LOT of bad emerald cuts out there. This is true for other material too, it just seems so much more obvious in emerald cuts where there's no sparkle all over the place to help it along.

Having said that , you are looking at a precision cut emerald which shouldn't have that problem (but can, I've seen them) it's just that , as I said, an emerald cut is a very different look .

had you seen this one?

thanks so much! i am really a newbie in gemstone! I am open-minded to have a spinel. And the price is usually lower than sapphire!

This is a tangent, but the inside of hands are _very_ pink compared to everyone else's. I may start a separate thread about this one day.

Thanks so much for your advice! I am asking the seller for a handshot of the emerald cut spinel.

I did not really see a lot of emerald cut coloured stones. I will go to walk around the jewellers store to get a better idea before making my decision.

I thought that color is very lovely, and the price is right. Plus I like that cut for that color. The seller seems to be responsive with emails and would probably get you a handshot.

Gorgeous find Niel - concave cut really does show off that colour! Luuuurve it

I also second Carmen's comment that Wild's is not a fly-by-nighter. However do compare the prices between their ebay and etsy stores if they list the same stone in both places.

Another baby pink spinel, but maybe larger than you are looking for: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bright-Baby...219?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c301b71a3

I am worried about purchasing gems on ebay....

Wilds Global is a very reputable seller, they have a good return policy, you should not worry about purchasing from them.
Let me send them an email asking for handshot to see the colour of the spinel:D

Just wanted to chime in and say that I love the last two ovals posted, especially the eBay one. Either of those stones would be great options, the color looks much more even throughout the stones than the first stones you showed us.

Perhaps think a moment about what sort of pink you really want also. The last two are quite different - the concave is a much more lavender pink to my mind while the Wilds' is a dusky pink - which do you favour?

A week from now Monday??

What metal are you setting this in? I feel like if you want white with pave I like the baby pink. Gives it a more , I dunno, high end vibe. Like a Tiffany feel or something. A vibe I'm sure I'm not conveying well. Lol. The rosy with say a yellow gold give and give it a more nature feel.
