Since you already have a ring with your original stone and a three stone with a sapphire center, I'd decide based on the answer to this question.

Do you LOVE the 2 ct diamond?

If so, reset into a beautiful pendant. It's a nice size for a bezel or halo pendant to go with your beautiful new ring!

If not, by all means sell it and make something you really want and will love!

Many of you know about my upgrade (woot!) from a 2 ct to an almost 4 ct oec. Well DH must have had a brain transplant because now he says that I can keep my other ring if I want to (we have gone from "I need to sell my 2ct before even thinking of upgrading" to "upgrade now and sell later" to "meh, keep it if you want to". He even said if I do decide to sell, that I can put it toward another piece of bling. I feel very fortunate. I know many of you have upgraded and some of you have kept and some have sold. Would love to hear what you would do as well as your stories :) I am posting a pic of both rings. I am torn because I love my 2ct, but I wonder how much I will wear it now that I have the new one. So I wonder if I should sell for a future bling project (like a big 5 stone would be nice) or maybe convert to a pendant, or what. Also I do have my very first e-ring which I wouldn't sell for sentimental reasons.

Pics of rings.

How blessed you are to be able to keep both lovely rings!

When I got my upgraded bridal set five years ago, I kept my original e-ring.

Now, five years later, I'm working on an upgrade-to-theupgrade that involves a completely different design. I want (need) to sell the center stone on my PPF, and the difference between the retail price I paid and the wholesale price I'll receive is painfully disappointing.
In any case, the remaining two diamonds and band will be repurposed into a cluster that has special representations for us. I'm super excited!

But, if I had a choice I'd keep my original upgrade and original ering and start from scratch with all new stones and gold...without a doubt.

What a great dilemma to be in, congratulations!
I personally would never wear the 2ct engagement ring if I was given a 4ct upgrade.
I considered selling my 2 ct but couldn't bring myself to recoup only half of what it cost. I made the solitaire into pendant with a halo. I wear that everyday.

A cluster sounds amazing and congrats on your upgrade to upgrade :) Also I am struggling to interpret the acronym PPF but cannot figure it out. Could you enlighten me??

Thank you for everyone's replies. I am leaning toward a pendant, or perhaps creating a floral looking ring with YG bezel or prongs to bring out the warmth of the diamond which is an N color. If I do the latter, that will be much further down the road so perhaps a pendant in the interim.
