Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best finds here!!

Well, I just broke down and bought this stroller http://www.miamodainc.com/strollers/energi.asp . After really thinking what bugs me about my Baby Trend jogger, I decided I wanted something wihtout air tires (they''re always going flat), with a removable child tray, suspension, and I don''t actually need a jogger, I don''t jog, I walk. So we''ll see how it goes. There were no retailers in Arizona, so I didn''t get to see it in person...

cool new stroller MG!!

does anyone have an organic crib mattress? if so, which did you buy and are you happy with it? trying to research, the naturepedic have a lot of positive reviews but some people ding it for the polyproplene cover (which is a food grade plastic). but it''s gotten all sorts of ''green ''and ''safety'' awards.

i'm starting to research organic crib mattresses too. i keep coming across the naturepedic ones and the serta one. again, i'm just starting to research, but i remember reading about mattresses that flip so that one side is firmer [for baby] and the other is softer [for toddler]. i'm wondering if the organic ones also have this flip option?

jcrow naturepedic ones have that...the no compromise ones.

the only negative i can read about them is the ''plastic'' cover. the other organic ones all have cotton covers.

anyone know what we used for crib mattresses like 30 years ago??? i''d be curious if it was rubber.

good to know. i was reading that the serta one isn''t 100% organic either.

re: the cover, makes me wonder about the ultimate crib sheet. i''m guessing that it''s not organic...

oh and i''m kinda bummed that the naturepedic ones aren''t at bru, at least i can''t find them online there. so that makes the car seat, stroller + mattress that isn''t there. grrr.

anyone register with buy buy baby or baby earth? if so, how was the experience?
i''m getting frustrated with bru. everytime i research and decide on something, bru doesn''t carry it.

i''m sure crib mattresses have been discussed already, but i was hoping ya''ll could give me a quick review on what has been recommended? pretty please don''t make me scroll through almost forty pages!

I''ve had mine made in coconut coir centre with sheep''s wool and organic cotton outer-skin. Mainly because I found a company which made them to measure at bargain price - the Arms Reach Mini nor the Stokke Sleepi take standard size mattresses.

I would also consider Memory Foam.

I have serious spinal problems which are hereditary, so I''m probably nuts, but I want to do what I can to minimise Daisy having them too.

we''re interested in the arm''s reach mini convertible too and was wondering about matresses... it says it comes with a matress.. did you just change it out for one that you had made?
I bought my Arm''s Reach Mini second-hand on eBay - they didn''t stock them in the UK until last month - and so wanted a new mattress. The mattress that comes with the crib is quite hard and has a plastic covering and because it''s designed to fold up it has fold-lines in it. So, my new mattress is thinner than I would have ordered, but it goes on top of the original (which you need because of the wooden base in it) and makes the crib much softer for the baby.

I also didn''t like their sheets, and annoyingly they''re non-standard as well, but I found some that were near enough and that are much nicer feeling.

jcrow i registered with target and it has the naturepedic.

the only thing target doesnt have is many of the strollers i am looking at.

eta plus every time i go to BRU on my browser it crashes it at least once! argh.

I just sold three of my strollers and bought a Phil & Ted Sports Buggy stroller (REI had a sale and was much less than everywhere else I could find) with the double kit, I love it! and it is so much more compact than my other three. One annoying thing is that all their accessories comes with a price
38.gif
and there is no cup holders! I finally found a cup accessory handlebar holder for the buggy so hopefully it works out

it folds really flat and the front tire is easily removable to make it even flatter and much more lightweight than my Schwinn or Instep. Great for two kiddos for sure,

D&T I just bought that one from REI too! It was a good deal if anyone''s looking for Phil &Ted right now.

I just picked it up on Wednesday. I haven''t figured out yet how to fold it up. I guess I need to watch the video online again.

Prompted by that Phil and Ted sales price, we went to the store today to see if I like the adjustable handle. But I still kick the stroller with every step. That''s a no go.

Has anybody tried out both the BOB Revolution and the Mountain Buggy Urban Single? Thoughts on the two?

I've tried both in double form...liked the BOB better. But that was the double. The MTN Buggy was really nice too so I wouldn't hesitate to get that one if you find a better price than the BOB.

Thanks NF. I don't think that I'd be able to find a better price on the Mountain Buggy - albeebaby has them at $400 right now, which is the lowest that I found in a quick online search. The local store carries Mtn Buggies and not BOBs, and I talked to the owner about them both and she thought that the Mtn Buggy was a better product. But I know that everyone here loves their BOBs. Is the fabric on the BOB removable for washing?

ETA - to clarify, as I had to run away earlier as George was upset. She thought that the Mtn Buggy is better because the foot rest is metal instead of fabric which is good if you have a kid with muddy shoes, and because the frame is really made to take a beating. Her husband regularly takes theirs through streams and things like that. I'm not sure how much the metal versus fabric footrest would matter if the fabric can be removed and thrown in the wash? Is this something that you can do with the BOB? And from what I've read here, the BOB is pretty well constructed and durable, right?

Blen, they are both good products. I think Mountain Buggy actually came out with the swivel front wheel before BOB did.

My friend with the triplets just bought a Mountain Buggy triple. They had it at mountainbuggystrollers.com for 699, with a free travel bag, which is a killer price on a triple stroller. They have the single for 429 in plum at the site, and you can return at any time as long as it is not used. If you buy return insurance for $1, the retailer pays for shipping back.

My thoughts based on my research and seeing it in my stroller strides class:

The BOB looks like a nicer stroller. Bigger canopy. In some online reviews, I''ve read that MBUS gets flats easier than the BOB.

I don''t think you can go wrong with either one, but it seems that with the REI discount of 20% which happens pretty often, BOB is cheaper than MBUS? If the BOB came in a triple, I would have told my friend to buy BOB though.

yay! sorry I just now saw this, were you able to figure it out, its a bit annoying as you have to release two little side buttons near front bar of the child seat ( I just bought a drink holder accessory attachment from Babology.com http://www.babology.com/product/B-TOR-CY/Stroller_Handlebar_Cup_and_Accessory_Holder__Organizer__Black.html (hopefully it works out). On of the reason why we chose the Phil & Ted, was because we wanted something narrow like the single, our toddler loves it too. I saw this stroller at Disneyland and thought it was a great small/big stroller to have, so compact for two. My friends call it the bunk beds for stroller...

Blenheim - bummer about the Phil and Ted, I hope you find one that works for you though.

TG, the BOB would be cheaper. I''m leaning towards that right now. Although, I have to say, today I am feeling very discouraged. I want to buy it in part so that I can start running a little bit (not a lot, but a couple of miles a couple times a week). But I went running just 1.5 miles yesterday and my back hurt last night and is hurting today. I''m 3.5 years out of back surgery now, so I don''t think it''s a needing to have more recovery time thing. My surgeon told me that I wouldn''t be able to run competitively anymore, but I''ve been holding out hope that I''d still be able to run some.

If I don''t need running capabilities in a stroller, then the Baby Jogger City Classic is on our list. I LOVE the way that they collapse (just like the City Mini, for those who have them) and they have all-terrain capabilities which is one thing that''s been bugging us. And I can find that for $220 right now. Does anyone have experience with the City Classic, or City Elite for that matter?

In answer to my own question, we just found a store that had both the BOB and the Baby Jogger City Classic, and we prefer the BOB hands down. So never mind!

I looked at both too and liked the elite but in the end went with the BOB. It is funny b/c at first I preferred the way the BJCE folded out but then realized how dirty it would get when traveling (which we do often). Glad you got to try them out first hand. That really helps!

Oh, I didn''t even think of that! Another reason why this thread is great.

The handle is on the seat and you lift up to fold. Like a reverse umbrella. Therefore the the front of the stroller is exposed vs. the BOB where you fold in half with the exposed part being the back and under the seat. Does that make sense? We have flown with the BOB and they do NOT care in the slightest so I would be nervous about stains and tears.

For those of you looking into mattresses, i have done a lot of research lately b/c DH and i need a new one. Latex is getting really great reviews all around and we are now going to get one for Co''s bed too. It is natural and non-toxic, it''s hypo-allo, does not harbor bacteria or dust mites etc, great for support and long-lasting. I *think* ikea now carries mattress toppers for kids (and apparently a topper is all you need to get the benefits. But, i can''t say that i have read any reviews for them
Anyway, if i find out more, i''ll post about it. It''s worth looking into.

gotcha! that makes sense.

thanks for posting that about the mattresses Jas.

one of our friends is moving out of state so they came by last nite and dropped off a plethora of goodies they don't want to move. the eddie bauer bassinet, a walker/bouncer, a vibrating bouncer, a chicco stroller and carseat. the baby's room is suddenly full! i am jazzed because my mom was going to need some stuff for her house too since she will be watching him a fair amt and full time for me when i go back to work for 3 months (before i figure out daycare or nanny), so now i don't have to worry about buying extra stuff or sourcing it secondhand from a non-trusted source. YAY!

anyone tried those little bucket bathtubs for the babies? the reviews on target are all rave from parents...they said their kids love them way more than the old fashioned flatter ones. i am tempted to try one...but they also say that they grow out of them fast since they are small buckets and that you really have to hold the baby up or else they flop all over. doesn't sound fun. but so many moms love it? hmm.

Mara, I don''t like anything that kids outgrow too fast, but that was because I was in a small apartment and space was at a premium. So unless it can be used as something afterwards, I wouldn''t bother.

Infant bathing: We just had something along these lines and bathed him in either our bathtub or the sink. It takes up practically no space and is cheap, which is great for something with limited use IMHO. As soon as he could sit up on his own at 5 months, we just started having him sit in the bathtub/sink for baths.

I think that Pandora may have one of those bucket tubs?

blen that is really cool, so you guys just used the sponge and not even a ''hard tub''? we have a clawfoot tub in the 2nd bathroom where we''ll bathe him anyway...so maybe we could get away with just using a sponge. we are limited on space like TG so i would like to get stuff that can be used long-term and is small or squishy aka foldable etc. we registered for some highly recommended mom tub but maybe i''ll do the sponge instead.

the bucket looks so cool though hehee.

Mara, I''m not sure how the bucket works, but I would make sure it''s only placed on the floor. I have a horrible image of a kid in a bucket, tipping over and off the kitchen counter!

I got the primo bathtub. Yes, it''s big and so uncute, but it fit in my apartment tub (check dimensions for your tub to make sure, as it''s now a tight fit in our new home tub), saves water and can be used for a long time. I used one of those little rubber grippers in it when Amelia was little and it worked great.

A claw tub might be too high to wash comfortably using the primo tub. The key is a lower tub as backs and knees are an issue. If I were in my current house when Amelia was little, I would have washed her in the sink with a sponge thing like Blen had.
