Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

J hates the Bumbo. We put him in it and he screams and arches and almost pushes himself OUT of it. He didn't like it when he was younger and he doesn't like it now either. Also he is kind of tall and I think it hurts his crotch area as well... he is not fatty at all but just long and I don't think it makes him feel comfortable to sit in it.

We borrowed it from a friend so I am so glad to return it..and not have to store it! Also I thought it might be handy for feeding but since he hated it, he just cries. So we use bouncer for feeding.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

BB, my friend with two boys used her bumbos (she had two) for a very long time. Since they were early one was a late bloomer (physically) so I was still sitting in it at 10.5 months (I only remember b/c she brought them to my DD's first b-day party). My daughter loved the bumbo and it made a great first highchair. I would feed her in the bathtub (can you tell I am a sucker for easy clean-up?) My daughter WAS chubby and I never had an issue.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

FWIW, I recently read a review on Babygizmo that said Bumbo's were potentially unsafe and uncomfortable for the baby. Now I'm not sure whether to use ours or not.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

The Bumbo came in very handy for us, as we were trying to sell the house as Ellie started eating solids and I didn't want to get the highchair out and have it cluttering the kitchen during showings. We had the little tray on the Bumbo too. That said, if we had put her Boon together right away, we probably wouldn't have used Bumbo much at all. As for the Boon- LOVE LOVE LOVE it. WOrth every penny. Even DH loves it. Meals are messy enough at this point, to have a cushion/fabric/nooks and crannies to worry about would drive me bonkers. I'm too concerned with making sure I got the peas out from behind her ears! I will say though, while feeding her watermelon the other day, she sat on a little piece for a while (obviously I didn't know) and it left a pink mark on the white pad. I have used everything I can think of to get it off, to no avail. It really isn't bad, just a very faint pink spot, but I want it gone! Any suggestions from the other Boon fans?

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

Natalina, have you tried the Mr. Clean magic eraser?

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

Ah! I haven't! Will try that out tomorrow! Thanks Allie!

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

Natalina, I would also try a little hydrogen peroxide on a qtip if the magic eraser doesnt do it.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

Bumbo - total disaster, lasted exactly three hours by which time she had straightened herself like a plank and thrown herself backwards to get out. We have hardwood floors and so it was going to end in tears.

I gave it to my brother and his son loves it, so I think it depends on the child.

Bouncer - We had the Fisher Price blue one that plays musak and has flashing lights, toys, does things when you kick certain parts and vibrates. Daisy was totally unimpressed and wanted to get out after 10 minutes max. Friends have the same one and their kids love it.
If I was starting over I would have bought the FP Rainforest Swing even at the extortionate price as I think D would have liked it better.

High Chair - I have the Bloom Fresco http://www.bloombaby.com/collection/main.php?sID=19. It was fab when D was newborn as it tilts right back and has a soft bamboo new-born cushion thing so she slept in that in our sitting room all the time. It's a great highchair now and pretty easy to clean. Ultimately we may well sell it once we don't need the trays and get a Tripp Trapp instead as the Bloom is quite big and living in central London we only have a small apartment. I bought it almost brandnew for a steal on eBay and I should be able to make my money back at the very least.

I also have the Minui HandySitt http://www.minuihandysitt.com/ as a travel highchair which is brilliant - it also has separate legs that attach to make it into a small chair to sit on the floor with. It is expensive but comes in a nice storage/carry bag and folds totally flat which is good for travelling and for taking out with us to restaurants. Best of all, Daisy will actually sit in the thing!

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

omg so I just actually looked at the Boon Flair and it is the funniest looking highchair. spaceship highchair to mother earth!

i really want to just get a natural wood one and stain it to match our table and chairs. esp since the kid will be in it for a while right, til like what age do they need to sit in one? either that or we do the ikea $19 one and move him into a booster at the table as soon as he's able. since our dining room, family room and kitchen are essentially one big open room/L shape then the dining room is visible from all angles and so would be any high chair. i tend to think 'finite period of time' for any of this baby stuff but if the highchair has to be around ~2 years then i wanna like it.

oh and i saw some crazy $800 one online. wow. can i just feed him in the bouncer forever?

i also saw some crazy $5k swan wood cradle at Walmart online. WTF?

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

Mara
You don't have to use a highchair. You can use the booster seat with back and restraints from the start. We used the Fisher Price Healthy Care Booster Seat at restaurant when we started solids with Meena. We have the Boon Flair at home, but we could had just use the booster at home too. How long you use the high chair will depend on your kid. Meena stopped wanting to sit in the highchair at around 15 months, and we started using the booster seat at home. The booster is only needed because the kids are not tall enough to eat at the table without it.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

Thanks QT! Maybe we'll just get a booster. We don't eat at the table anyway in our household unless it's a 'special meal' or we have guests as our meals are typically fairly quick given our work schedules, so we tend to just bust out the bouncer, feed J in it, then take him out and that's it. So chances are we wouldn't leave him in the high chair for a long period of time or need to have him at the table with us during a meal etc.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

I think it is the COOLEST looking highchair. Guess I am more modern. Also, I think it doesn't look quite as crazy in a real house vs. isolated on their website. I have yet to meet a mom who regretted buying it. DD is just about done with it but a two year run ain't bad.

Hi ladies! :wavey:

Trying to decide between the Baby Bjorn Carrier and the ERGO Baby Carrier. What do you all have and is it comfortable for you and the baby?

My vote is for Ergo. Would you consider Moby?

I have a bjorn and hated it. Sophia's legs would turn purple whenever she was in it and she just didn't seem comfortable. It was ok for my back until she got to be around 15lbs, then the weight wasn't distributed well.

I've never had or tried on the Bjorn, but do have the ERGO and I love it. Very easy to wear and it's pretty comfortable.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

we have Bjorn and Ergo and Bjorn was great for us but Ergo will last us longer. If I could just get one, I'd prob get Ergo.

we also had peanut shell and i never could put him in it correctly and he hated it.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

Bjorn was awful - once she got to 12lb it killed my back after 10 minutes.

My SIL has the Ergo and likes it but it was too fussy for me with all the buckles etc.

I like the Ellaroo Mei Tai - the BabyHawk is great too. Really simple to use and baby feels almost weightless. Daisy is now 20lbs and I can carry her comfortably for hours (despite major spinal surgery).

If I was starting over I'd get something like the Moby or Tricotti Slen or Close for the first few months and then move to the Mei Tai.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

If you like the style of the Ergo (and let's face it...what style?), that's my vote. Amelia is 27+ pounds, a giant, and I can still comfortably carry her. I go power walking with her on my back. ::)

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

I know this will get buried in this thread, but I thought I'd put it out there...

I was looking for a portable speaker for my blackberry (since its speakers are wimpy) that I could use while taking Amelia on walks.

I got this one from Amazon and really like it.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ET ... ss_product

It's small enough to easily fit in my BOB console, and loud enough that I can hear it over traffic on a busy street. It's not booming by any stretch, but it does the job.

My only beef with it is that the power button is a push button on the front. Which means it can accidently turn on. If you don't turn it off, it drains the batteries within a couple of days.

I like the keyring hole, and I put a thin keyring through it and clip it onto my stroller (I have the JuJuBe stroller clips, but those caribiner clips - I'm sure I spelled that wrong - would do nicely.) The jack to the blackberry is also short and attached...which might be an issue for some.

But it's great to jog to music and still be able to hear Amelia!

Thanks Ladies! Sounds like Ergo it is!

Fiery - BTW - I did register for the Moby wrap too, but DH wanted to get in on the action so, we definitely wanted a carrier too (or in our case 2 carriers). :cheeky:

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

Blushing -- I can't IMAGINE doing 2 of everything! I hope you have generous friends and lots of showers planned! :cheeky:

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

One official shower and one work shower, but our families have been great so far! My DH and I haven't bought a single thing (including nursery furniture - 2 cribs, 2 mattresses, etc), except for two area rugs and a glider. Everyone has been very generous thus far and we really appreciate it! It's mind blowing how much everything costs!

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

CC I think I have seen some posts on BabySteals that people love it. I think they posted a deal on it in the last week--check out their blog? Usually the moms will chime in there with their thoughts.

I managed to snag one of the Boulevards from FAO last week at 60% off even after they sold out, and then they sent me another 40% coupon for complaining via email so I got one for my friend too. Mine just arrived yesterday. So exciting!!!

Anybody have reviews of the Sunshine Kids Radian car seat?

http://www.skjp.com/product/97556/195XX ... 6%23174%3B

This is a review posted on another mommy site just to give you some background:

-Sunshine Kids Radian--These are just barely shorter than the true fit in shell height, they have an 8 year lifespan instead of the usual 6, they tether rear facing, and they're the only company to release crash test data (makes them rather trustworthy, you know?). They are very narrow, which allows three across in many cars (even smaller sedans) but do take up quite a bit of room rear facing. They can be a bit hard to install in some cars. The 65 model rear faces to 40 lbs and forward faces to 65 lbs and the 80 and XT models rear face to 45 lbs and forward face to 80 lbs. The XT model also has True Side Impact Protection head wings (which make great head supports for napping, too). It has great leg room rear facing, and will get most kids to the stated rear facing weight limit, and will get most kids to an appropriate booster age (remember that seats are almost always outgrown by height before weight). The newest addition is the SL model- SuperLATCH. SuperLATCH installs in one minute and allows use of LATCH up to 80 lbs whereas normal LATCH allows for use up to only 40 lbs or 48 lbs depending on your seat and your specific car, forcing you to use the seatbelt installation after 40/48 lbs. $200-$275

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

China - we have the Radian 65.

Pros-
Narrow. If you ever need to get 3 in the backseat, I think this is the seat to use.
Good RFing weight and height limits. Good overall weight limits.
Well-rated for safety.
I find it pretty easy to install.

Cons-
I like to loosen shoulder straps when taking G in and out of the car, so that it's easier to manipulate the straps around his arms. Our Britax is super-easy to tighten back up when putting him in. The Radian needs to be kind of ratcheted in very small increments, which is just annoying and takes longer. (I don't know if I'm describing this well...) I don't think it's a deal-breaker, but it's annoying.
The Britax also has velcro on the sides of the seat so that you can attach the straps there when taking the kid out, so that they don't get in your way when you put the kid back in. The Radian doesn't have this.
It's very long. It only fits RFing in the middle seat in my car (Toyota Matrix). It's currently installed in my MIL's car (Buick Enclave). Since her car doesn't have a middle seat in the middle row, it's installed behind the driver, and my FIL can't put the seat back as far as he likes when he drives the car. FWIW, DH and I both have long legs and so we can't just push the front seats in my car that much further up. It does fine in DH's car (Rav4) as there's a ton of room in the back. I think that this one is pretty car-dependent, so you may just want to try it in yours to see how it does. But at the same time, the seat does allow higher height limits than many...

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

Fiery- Thanks! That definitely sounds promising.

Blen- So you have both the Britax and Sunshine? Do you prefer the Britax then?

Right now I have a decent-sized car so not as concerned with that. The leg room thing would be annoying though. Hmmm.

Don't know why I'm stuck on not getting a Britax. A small issue is they look so HOT and it is HOT here for a majority of the year and O runs hot anyways. I read the Sunshine is cooler (temp wise).

Mara- I saw that. Good steal! A friend sent me that in the morning but I was busy at work and by the time I actually checked it out, it was gone. :nono: If I got that good of a deal, I would probably just go with Britax.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

We have a Britax Roundabout and a Radian 65. I prefer the Britax for right now, as I think it's a bit easier to use, but I think that the Radian's really good for long-term (higher height/weight limits, skinny for when we're trying to fit multiple carseats). Honestly, I don't think you'd go wrong with either, but I don't think it would hurt to find the Radian 65 in person if you can and just trying to put C in and out of it to see what you think.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

So I woke up tonight and went downstairs for a snack and this is what I found....

confirmation that a FP Ocean Wonders bouncer will, in fact, hold a 10 lb baby...he also likes the vibrating setting.

Re: Preggo stuff, Baby Stuff, Toddler Stuff...post your best

HH-that picture is precious!!!

China-I'm still stuck on what to get for my car! I wish I had been lucky enough to snag the Britax when it was on that crazy sale. Now I'm torn between Sunshine, True Fit, and Britax. Let me know what you choose!
