I''ve been looking at center stones to fit into my dream setting (pic posted below). The pic currently has a princess set in it, but I am thinking about maybe setting a different square cut diamond, such as a radiant. Then I found the Square H&As from GOG by browsing threads on PS. (Does anyone else sell Square H&As other than GOG?)

I want a sparkly diamond, but maybe not the larger facets found in a cushion. I''m looking in the 1.4-1.8 carat range. These are three that I''m considering right now:

Can someone point me in the right direction? Any other suggestions for stones that will look good in the setting?

Thanks!

OK I can''t get my pic to shrink down to the right size, so here is a link to an old post that has the pic in it...

thanks for posting.

Well, I am not a princess fan in general, so I was preparing to recommend the square H&A until I saw the setting! But after seeing all the angles in the setting, I really feel that a princess works best!

i agree. i think the angular look of the princess (the stone that is shown in the setting) would look best. you're going to loose that squared look if you go with anything else. you *could* go with a square emerald (asscher) if you like the look of step cuts though.

although it''s not an option you listed, i would hands down say asscher for the center stone. i think the lines of it would go perfectly with the side stones.

Thanks for the pic posting tips, Belle and DS!

I hadn''t thought of an asscher but you''re right, the lines might go well with the overall art deco look of the setting. Both of you made good points about paying attention to the squared look of the setting.

I''ve been researching princesses a lot lately, but I must admit my asscher knowledge is not that great. Do they *sparkle* like a princess, or is it just a different kind of sparkle? Will the steps be noticeable in my carat size?

the ''sparkle'' is very, very different between asscher and princess. the asscher is a very clean look, with the facets (where the sparkle comes from) being very symmetrical and defined. the princess has more of the ''crushed ice'' look with sparkle coming from everywhere. if you have not seen an asscher (square emerald) in person in the size you want, you need to before you decide.

In this particular setting, I sort of like the contrast between the sparkly center stone and the step cut side stones.

hehehehe....GREAT job jcrow!

a squared radiant would look nice too... though the only cut that really has its points in entirity is the princess and that might be best in this seting - is that a bezel?

Could someone with superb photoshop abilities (e.g., jcrow

) photoshop a picture of a square radiant in? I am having trouble picturing how it would look in my head.

Cehra, I don''t think it is a bezel. I think it is a low set princess (you can kind of see the prongs in the original picture).

i can help... do you have a pic of a square radiant?

I usually just read posts, but I thought I''d chime in this time... After my experience this year of purchasing a ring, I would go w/the radiant. It has a "crushed ice" look and the sparkle is amazing, more so than a round in my opinion. I have a princess that is only 60% depth, (cut quite shallow) and it sparkles like a radiant. I absolutely love it.

Another vote for the asscher. That is really pretty in that setting. I too am not a big princess or radiant fan.

Thanks for all the suggestions

I am leaning towards the princess and the radiant...the asscher is very pretty, but not my style. (Though I have yet to see an asscher in person, so when I do, I might change my mind!! )

We are working with a budget ~$10K-$12K...he would like to stick around 1.5 but I''m thinking 1.7. Is there a visual difference between 1.5 and 1.7? I''ve been reading past threads, and it seems that there needs to be a 25% difference for the size difference to be perceivable. Does that mean I would need to go to 1.8 for someone to tell the difference from a 1.5?

I''m considering these stones...what do y''all think?

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131&item=947939 (1.7 princess)

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131&item=896845 (1.56 radiant)

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?b=16&a=12&c=77&cid=131&item=860210 (1.53 radiant)

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2560/ (1.635 princess -- does this seem a bit deep)

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2420/ (1.688 princess -- same depth issue as above)

I think I like the asscher best *with that style ring* also.... but....

.... on the links you put, the radiants are not square.... one has a 1:1.17 ratio! that''s fairly rectangular!
