#TBT Princess Ruby

Since this has been bumped just thought I'd say again how much I adore your ring! I visit this thread often to drool at that ruby...

Its absolutely beautiful! It reminds me of Sarah Ferguson's engagement ring. It looks perfect on your hand :appl:

Thanks Maisie! I have worn it every day since it arrived. I've never had a ring that was more "me" than this one. It still makes me sigh when I look at it.

i missed it the first time around. it's gorgeous!! no wonder you sigh over it and wear it every day. i would too!

I'm not surprised! If I had a ring like that I would just gaze at it

Would you mind posting a side view of the ring please?

I missed thanking those folks who posted on the first page. I really appreciate your compliments! Let's see if I can find a side shot of the ring.

Here's the only one I seem to have. This is from ID Jewelry before the ruby was actually set. I wanted to approve everything before they put the prongs down. It is pretty utilitarian from the side, but because the ring is so low on the finger (just like I like it) you really don't see it unless you really look at it.

Thank you. I was just wondering if a wedding band would sit reasonably close to the setting but I don't think it will?

Nope

Ok, thanks.

As we say in New York.. GAW-JUS!
Do you wear it as your engagment/wedding ring or as a right hand ring? I totally agree with you that buying a colored stone IS so much more difficult than buying a diamond. Congrats.. your ring is beautiful!!

Is that your hand in those photos? It looks different to other photos you've posted on PS. :))

I'm asking because I am trying to decide on a sapphire centre stone and I'd love to see your ring on an adult hand (your photos look like you've put it on a younger person?) so I can work out if 2cts is the right size for me.

Course if i'm wrong and it is your hand I apologise!

Rubies, thanks so much! You obviously love ruby red also. I love your taste!! I wear it on my right hand because I have a ruby and omc diamond band that I wear on my right. I work in the medical field and cannot wear stones because they don't work with the gloves. I'm going to post a picture for you that shows my anniversary band worn on my left.

Maise, you are observant! It is my daughter's hand. I don't like to show my hands because they're so fat and age spotted, but for you I'll oblige. I happen to think the size is perfect for my hand, balanced, blingy, but tasteful. My daughter describes it as HUGE. I'll let you decide.

I love your taste too!! Are you born in July or do you just love rubies? I think your ruby/diamond eternity band is beautiful and a great compliment to your big new ruby ring. I have something very similar that is from Tiffany.. the 16 stone ruby/diamond ring in yellow gold that I wear as a wedding band sometimes. I would love to get a ruby princess ring but finding a stone is so difficult.. I look on ebay all the time for a signed piece like Cartier or Tiffany where I can be reasonably sure that it's a fine stone.. but even that is sort of a blind item. Congrats again on your lovely ring! How nice you have a "hand model" in the family! LOL.

Its absolutely the perfect size! Thank you for posting more photos. I think 2cts is the right size for me :appl:

No July birthday here. Just an deep love for beautiful stones.

I found a beautiful 2.11 carat ruby certified unheated by GIA. Take a look.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unheated-GIA-Certified-Pigeon-s-blood-Red-Natural-Ruby-Oval-2-11ct-/221117510260?_trksid=p4340.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D11%26meid%3D1855557889506930708%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1005%26rk%3D2%26

Oh, and I checked the feedback. Very misleading. One buyer left five negatives because the vendor described a spinel as diamond black and the buyers gemologist said they were dark blue. :nono: I'd trust them, especially because of the GIA document.

That is a beautiful stone.. how much do you think it will sell for? Just a guesstimate?
It's not on the GIA report the origin is it?

I don't see an origin, but I'm not sure how often those are done. I wouldn't be surprised (if GIA does them at all) they are significantly more expensive. Here is a document that describes what CMT Type I rubies are about.

It's interesting because the seller's description say it's from Burma but the GIA report doesn't mention it.
Any idea what a 2 carat fine ruby sells for? I have no idea.. :read:

Just for my own education on prices I looked at this sellers "completed" auctions. The 2 carat GIA ruby was previously bid up to $1000 but didn't meet the set reserve price. They did have a 3 carat GIA ruby that was sold for $5000 but that one had indications of heating.
I was just curious to get a general guideline of pricing of rubies vs diamonds. :read:
