What about a braided shank of many strands of yellow and white gold? There would be four prongs for the stone. Two strands of the metal come up at time twinning around each other and form little fish tail prongs over the stone. I thought of this awhile ago when reading about Anchor 31’s dream ring but was too embarrassed to post it. I have no clue how to make ya’ll see what I am thinking either…

Ok, I will very reluctantly enter mine. You''ll have to forgive the very poor art/graphic skills and I don''t have photoshop or paint so I couldn''t do it on my computer.

Anyway, someday I would love to have a charm bracelet with cute charms that each have a special meaning. So, I decided to attempt to design on of my own

. I have a daughter named Lily so my idea is to make a Lily charm. I would make the center colored stone and use pink gold for the leaves. The stone would be bezel set with scalloped prongs circling the top. On each prong would be a tiny diamond.
OK, now we getting somewhere

mrssalvo, you have your entry with this idea, i made your charm set with Lily Cut sapphire, am i guessing right that Lily must be "Water"?

Wow! That is pretty close to what I had in mind...I was thinking eight ropes of metal making the shank and two at a time comining up to make the prongs. If I find a better bas photo I will post it...maybe anchor 31 has one, I will PM her to ask.

My entry (with a sapphire of course):

Okay, I have tried and tried to upload the pic I drew and scanned. Not having any luck. I will try a description.

The shank of the ring comes up to a cathedral which transitions to a half bezel setting. The metal of the bezel just lips over the girdle and in the middle of each side, there is a cleft. The cleft is because from the top the ring looks half bezel, but it''s actually the top of a heart that is brought up out of the cathedral. The front and back of the diamond are completely open and on the sides you can peek through the cutout heart to see the pavillion of the diamond. Hope you guys can visualize this. any help would be appreciated.

choo choo,
did you design that whole ring or just modify the prongs?

these are very cool ideas! irina..you are awesome

i will probably need your help bringing a vision to life as well

shay, make sure your file is in .jpeg format and that the filename is unique.

Belle, it''s not, and I don''t know how to make it that way. Arrgggh!!!!!

shay

do a ''save as'' and make sure you select .jpeg from the drop down menu.

do you have my email address?

Belle, you rock. Thanks, honey. Now, you will have to forgive my horrible skill as an artist.

Oops, just reread the contest rules and I have to withdraw :) That''s just one of my favorite ring pictures that I''ve had saved for a couple of years, don''t even know where it came from. I didn''t modify it because I think it''s perfect!

wow! so many cool ideas!!

you had allot more patience than I, Irina. Too bad my endless time reserves have dried up these days

I had been dreaming of a ''loop'' ring - with the main (small) stone inserted in a brain for quite a while and made a stash of pictures... Only the ring in my dream (literally) had two braids.

Since it looks like few things are truly new in jewelry (even a dream!), someone had the same vision and happened to ask Mark Morell for an interpretation. The result is the third picture below On This Page. This is not all that close to what I had in mind (involving gold, silver and a rectangular dark green cab)., but it is one of the most successful simple designs of the sort. proof that it can be done, if anything.

This wasn''t done after your drawing, but ... if it does reminf you af something familiar, you are probably right.

.... CTwd. on Shay's drawing:

On a smaller stone, the bezel on (or under) the girdle may be too much of a good thing.

Bella%20Coola%20Diamond%20Engagement%20Ringb300.jpg
Roxboro%20Diamond%20Engagement%20Ring300.jpg

And if you had a rectangular or square stone in mind, the lobes of the heart could 'catch' the corners of the diamond over a very dainty frame. As it happens with the corner-holders (?) on this ring below.

(not my design - this is a vintage ring with an unusual kind of bezel... which qualified the picture for a place in my stash

38.gif
).

Granted, this setting makes allot more sense for an old stone with a high crown. With the most flat modern cuts, if the pavilion doesn't show in the setting, there is not much of a crown - and something is missing.

Ana, that was one of the things that I was thinking about. The shoulders of the heart design could easily work to protect corners on square stones as well. Love your photos and ideas.

Very cool. Thank you, Irina. I knew I drew it with a round, but I could also picture it as a square. Seems I''m not the only one to think it could work that way.

That turned out kewl, thank you :}

The idea is that the flared up halo will reflect the blue from the sapphire in the diamonds giving a very fiery blue look to the ring.

It''s a twig ring!

This is what about 30seconds of doodle and a few days of thinking things gets to: a ring with no bezel, and no prongs... so to speak. In fact, this started after Irina posted a model for a trillion on the color forum and the following posts called for a remake with a thin shank.

Normally, I wouldn''t post something this schetchy, but just don''t know when I''ll get to add the details. For example, the full side view needs to ehpain what holds this on the finger straight. And my intention was to make the shank into a cast ''twig'' with buds on the left and polished leaf-like swirls on the other side. But that... will have to wait.
14.gif
On the other hand, if everyone gets terribly scared... no need to follow up much.

Hope you guys don''t mind.
