I had an idea awhile back and I guess I need to draw it out on paper since my photoshop skills aren''t too great. It''s a variation on the floating trellis. Instead of smooth prongs and metal, I would make it more scallopy or wavey if that makes sense? Oh well it''s late and I''m sleepy! Hehe I''ll be sure to try it out tommorow on paper.

It''s a twig ring!

This is what about 30seconds of doodle and a few days of thinking things gets to: a ring with no bezel, and no prongs... so to speak. In fact, this started after Irina posted a model for a trillion on the color forum and the following posts called for a remake with a thin shank.

Normally, I wouldn''t post something this schetchy, but just don''t know when I''ll get to add the details. For example, the full side view needs to ehpain what holds this on the finger straight. And my intention was to make the shank into a cast ''twig'' with buds on the left and polished leaf-like swirls on the other side. But that... will have to wait.

On the other hand, if everyone gets terribly scared... no need to follow up much.

Hope you guys don''t mind.
Oh this reminds me of some Tiffanys place settings I saw...what a great idea please do your comp magic and show us more!

I have no imagination on this sort of thing!! But I LOVE Mrs Salvo''s lily pendant, even those diamond prongs are charmers!!

Val your twig ring drawing looks like it''s got lots of potential too!

Hi everyone!

I''ve been a lurker for a while now, but this thread inspired me to sign up. So, I figured I''d throw in my ideas
1.gif
. I *hopefully* have attached a picture file (if not, can someone try and help me get it figured out. thanks in advance) with a couple of ideas. They are variations on the x-prong type setting that I, like so many other people, love. So that''s the look I''m going for... Anyway, (when I was thinking of these in my head) some of the prongs are just white gold with diamond accents, the others might be pave (if that''s even possible). I know I''ve seen the prongs where the teeny tiny diamonds go up the sides of the prongs, but in my visions (on a couple of these) the diamonds just keep right on going onto the prongs. Anyway, I used paint but if you could help me out with the photoshop that''d be awesome! Thanks!

Hopefully the attachment works so you all can see what I''m talking about....

Maybe now that I''ve signed up I''ll start posting elsewhere.

"Corner cut" decoration idea is next in my photoshop list.

Thank you both for your welcome!

I can''t wait to see what you can do with photoshop and really make these ideas "come to life" so to speak - or at least more than I ever could! Thanks again!

Celalia, here is what i managed to set into prongs so far... not too much space in those prongs, unless sapphire is huge.
I used Rose cut diamonds because their flat bottom allowed to place them on top of sapphire.

Trellis variation for PrincessV...

ETA: Thank you guys, i try hard, ...as you see i had PrincesseV's ring re-done...my greatest goal is not to make wonderful ideas turn out to be an The Ugly Folder candidates.

You know mrssalvo, there is one gem (don't remember the name, but Garry H does) that has a unique color which it shares only with some rare lotus (lily) and therefor has it's name. If you are interested we can ask Garry what's the name and your pendant will be Lily everything - shape, cut, gem.

BTW, that color i do remember - it's unbelievable "red", also stone in question is too soft for a ring, but OK for the pendant.

And thank you for saving that dog.

Irina. Thanks SO much. Those look better than I could have imagined! I love them all!!

Hehe, Val, not for you... Pissarro does not paint for Cézanne

Spent a good hour trying to produce a more glamorous picture of the trillion ring, and... nothing. With no more time on my hands, I will have to leave the old schetch that started this thread as entry. Somewhere on this computer there is a version that could serve a resonably sized round stone.

Dunno what''s up with the swirl ring: I can make it look nice on a ''hand picture'' but every image of the ring by itself looks pretty bad.
7.gif

Thanks Irina!! I have a drawing that I''ve been trying to scan..stupid school scanner broke! Anyway that''s what I had in mind (and better!) ok so its not really as ''prongy'' as others but I''ve been dreaming it up for awhile. Always a sucker for a trellis actually.

Thanks again!

Somewhere on this computer there is a version that could serve a resonably sized round stone.... meant this:

The setting was thought as something made mostly in one piece (a bezel - just big enough to get half the way up the pavilion, so that some small prongs finish the job and leave the setting lighter than a full bezel). There would be four ''valleys'' between the prongs, with some room for pave or engraving, even if the main round stone is well under 1 ct, let alone 10, as the original picture had in mind.

I can''t bet there isn''t anything ike this, because I know of at least one version - a modern, chunky solitaire ring by Cartier, not too close, but...).

valley.JPG

I had an idea a few weeks ago, but I don''t have a scanner or Photoshop.
7.gif

It''s kind of hard to explain and may not even be original, though I''ve never seen anything like it. Basically, its a tension setting with little loop things on either side of the stone. The band goes through the loop things and they hold the diamond a little bit above the diamond.

Does that make any sense at all?
33.gif
I might try to use Paintshop later, but don''t expect anything grand.

Okay, don''t laugh at me.
7.gif
For some reason, Paintshop won''t open, so I had to use regular old paint and it didn''t turn out very well.
20.gif

This is just to give you a rough...very rough idea of what I''m talking about. The little loopy things holding the diamond (or sapphire) would have pave set stones in them, as well as in the band. And the little stone under the center stone would be a surprise diamond.

Now remember, no laughing.

I wish I could do this so it was realistic looking. I think it might look decent then.

Ok, I will very reluctantly enter mine. You''ll have to forgive the very poor art/graphic skills and I don''t have photoshop or paint so I couldn''t do it on my computer.

Anyway, someday I would love to have a charm bracelet with cute charms that each have a special meaning. So, I decided to attempt to design on of my own
3.gif
. I have a daughter named Lily so my idea is to make a Lily charm. I would make the center colored stone and use pink gold for the leaves. The stone would be bezel set with scalloped prongs circling the top. On each prong would be a tiny diamond.
OK, now we getting somewhere
36.gif

mrssalvo, you have your entry with this idea, i made your charm set with Lily Cut sapphire, am i guessing right that Lily must be ''Water''?
Omigosh! Irina, you have a future in jewelry design. I looked at MrsSalvo''s picture and thought it would be nice, but what you have made of it is beyond my imagination. What a creation!

Wink

Irina,

Now that I have seen more of your work I have only one question.

When and where will you be giving your photoshop seminar! I use photoshop nearly every day, but have not the vaguest of ideas how you are creating things that look so lifelike and photograph like. I am guessing you have spent a LOT of time figuring this out, and it looks wonderful!

Wink

Oups... your drawing turned up whyle I was tinkering at the ones below. And it is pretty far! It does remind me of something in particular though:

engagement_other_ribbon.jpg
the 'ribbon' ring from Tiffany's. It looks like the version in the picture would be a subtantial upgrade' with allot more diamond coverage so to speak.

The description sure makes sense, only it may be that it means different thing to either of us.

How far away are the two below?

Loops.JPG

Wow Ana! I really am loving the second one!! It''s so different how is the diamond held? I''d be interested in the side view..is that a real ring?
