PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Everyone we meet thinks Piper is 6 months. When I tell them she was 12.9 at 8 weeks they''re like, ''OH. She''s a big ol'' baby.'' Jesus! She''s EBF, it''s not like I''m force feeding her bottles, so stop saying she''s ''Just chubby''. My husband was almost 11lbs at birth, so I''m not really surprised, but why do people feel the need to comment? It''s like they think I''m overfeeding her and we''re going to have to put her on Maury Povich or something.
39.gif
She''s probably past 13 pounds at nearly 3 months, is that husky? I don''t like people saying she''s a fatty.
7.gif

It''s funny because I''m so used to hearing it, but my Dad takes major offense. He says, ''Well, she''s nursing, so it''s not like there is anything you can do.''

Amber I don''t think people mean it in a bad way...I actually love it when people say how chubby and fatties my little ones are. I just love rolls...and they have cellulite even in their knees...hehehe

So maybe they mean it in a cute kind of way, sort of like when I refer to my little ones as chunky monkeys, little "gorditos" (fatties...hehe) and I tell them I will have to send them to Biggest Loser Baby Edition!.

Don''t worry...she''s not fat! She''s a baby, and babies are meant to be a little chubby (because who can resist chubby cheeks!)

Amber, one of our close friends has a son 2 weeks older than Hunter. He was 15 lbs at 5 weeks and was 20lbs 5 months. He was like the Michelin man, no kidding! But he was a boy so I think it was easier for them to take the constant comments. But he was also EBF, he just nursed a lot and his mom probably made high fat milk (good for losing weight
2.gif
). He was slower to crawl and do those things that Hunter war because he was bigger and it made it harder for him to move around, but now at 1 year he is slimmed out a little and he is an active healthy cutie pie! When babies start moving they really slim out, they just burn so many calories. So Piper will change a lot this year! I''m sorry you have to deal with people''s comments. Tell them to get bent.

Viz I also like soup.
4.gif
That is my favourite movie.

Ditto. I love me a chubber michelin baby. Amelia never had those rolls, but she was a little tubber. It always makes me smile when people googoo at a chubby baby. Trust me, it''s way better than someone commenting that your baby looks scrawny/skinny/starving!

Cute pics everyone, and love your confessions!

I usually lurk this thread (kind of wishful, hoping that I''ll ovulate, then sometimes I am glad I don''t have a LO yet!

) but I just wanted to say hello to Mandarine!!!
35.gif
I love the song you posted. Thanks so much for sharing it!!! Are you speaking in Spanish to the boys? Do you know any other songs? I wasn''t raised speaking it, but lived in Mexico so now I know it and want to teach my future children Spanish. By the way, a couple of weeks ago was Sebastian''s birthday!
36.gif

Thanks everyone! We were amazed when we came home and she was about 9 lbs, and she had no rolls, especially being only 19 inches long, it''s like, where does it go? Now she has three rolls per leg and it''s just our favorite thing ever. We looked up my growth chart in my baby book and she''s already outweighed me at a year, I was TINY. So different from Daddy. :)

So I can make higher fat milk? That''s fantastic to know.

Aww, thanks!!!

I know a lot of Spanish songs...like "el pollito diceee pio, pio, pio...", "la manzana se pasea, de la sala al comedor...", "Cinco lobitos, tiene la Loba..." and of course all the songs I make up, which usually start with "gordinflito" hehe.. I am sure you probably can find tons of spanish kids songs in the internet (tough to "sing" here ;)

I always talk to them in Spanish...and so does MIL and the nanny. My family doesn''t live here, but when they see them they also speak in SPanish (as well as on the weekly Skype sessions!).

I saw some pics of Sebastian in his aunt''s FB page! He''s getting so big and he''s so handsome!. I hope he''s doing ok

I just looked on Youtube and saw a ton!!!! THanks for the tip!!! Your boys are so precious!

My Mommy Confessions:

Andrew is off of school on Fridays, so he stayed in his PJs till about 11:30 this morning. Oh, and he ate candy from his Valentine''s party at school yesterday at about 8am, right after breakfast....I was too worn out to argue.

Last night was rough. The baby woke every hour or so to eat. I was just nursing, but so desperate for him to go back to sleep, I gave him a bottle at 3am. He slept for approximately 10 minutes before crying again. He would go right to sleep with me holding him, but wouldn''t sleep AT ALL in his crib/bassinet/car seat/swing/bouncer
39.gif
. Finally at 5am, Adam got up with him and watched him so I could get a few hours of rest. Poor guy, he was 2 hours late for work...I didn''t realize I had been sleeping for so long and thought he would bring him back to me when it was time for him to leave. Good thing he is the boss and can really make his own hours or I would have felt really bad! I''m going to go get my 3rd cup of coffee for the day...hope everyone is having a great Friday (it is Friday, right????)

tee hee... i was wondering if you all were thinking "wahhhhaaa? so what if she likes soup."

amber - pish posh on them! i find comments about weight are always hankering close to the the line of appropriate/not appropriate - whether it be when i was preggo and people would guess (always wrong) how many months pg i was OR now that charlie is here -- they make comments about him being a peanut or whatever. just stop. he''s not in failure to thrive territory!

FWIW i am *secretly* (not anymore;) jealous of you. charlie is sooo wishy washy about eating.. even when he gets formula.. one day it''s 2oz every feeling.. the next day he''s pounding 4oz... i just kinda let him do his own thang.. and that is what piper is doing.. her own thang... but yeah, i wish my man had more rolls... did i mention it was COLD here.. he could use some natural layering
2.gif

china - you have a very good point, one that keeps me here for the time being. i just don''t want to decide in 6 months that it''s not working out and in the meantime i missed charlie as an itty bitty baby. i don''t know if i made this part clear or not but charlie isn''t at daycare the entire time i''m at work. DH takes him around 8:30 and picks him up well before 4:00 most days.. and he''s with his grandparents on mondays (something that i haven''t delved into because i''m trying not to think about it .... OMG fiery do i have some MIL commissary stories to share.. mostly they just make me cry .... so i push them into the deep recesses of my brain -- one thing at a time) and DH watches him on fridays. but it''s the meeeeeeeeee time i''m missing.

mandy - 4 miles?!?! WTG.. so jealous! i told myself i was going to get back on the running horse 6 weeks pp (HA!) and train for my yearly 1/2 marathon in may (double HA!) i''ve resigned to only being able to muster up enough energy for 20mins of my 30day shred (triple HA!) -- which i''ve started 4 times now.

november - GAH that pic is the cutest!!! must take snowy pics of charlie!

PG - does the name brutus mean anything to you?

fiery - YUCCKO! re: happy hour and singapore and not seeing sophia! i think ANYONE who has a babe under 1 year gets a free pass out of outings! if it makes you feel any better you are totally cracking me up! gah, i would soo love to come to miami and hang out with you and mandy and laugh and laugh and laugh :)

OMG R hates this song so much and I loooooovvveeee to sing it just to tease him. When he''s taking a nap, I turn on the monitor, take Sophia to her room, and sing it hahahahaha

We do the manita song too:

La linda manita que tiene el bebé qué linda, qué bella qué preciosa es (of course I do it the Puerto Rican way lol)

She knows how to move her hand to it too! I need to get it on youtube one day.

We also do pon, pon, pon el dedito en el pilón but she doesn''t get that one yet
37.gif

so cal girl- 5000 employees and only ONE room for complete privacy in another building? I'd be pissed too. I'm sorry.
7.gif

sunkist- Naked baby! Squeeeeeze. He's adorable.

Mara- H had a leaky eye in the beginning, too. A squirt of BM to the eye did wonders.

RPS- Great BFing advice, as usual!

Mustang- Happy 1st Birthday, Kyle!
36.gif

sugarpie- I know who you are.
27.gif

viz- Charlie is precious! He's got a great name. It's in my husband's top 3 if we have a second boy.

Amber- Piper is gorgeous and healthy. I've got a big baby too and I just smile whenever people make a comment about his size. What are we going to do...put our babies on a diet? Too much breastmilk? Puh-leaze.
2.gif

Solids aren't going over so well, here. I should say aren't going "through" so well. H has had constipation problems every time we've given him anything. Today is day 3 of no poop, and that was after giving him one thing of pears 4 days ago and only BM since. Aren't pears supposed to be good for constipation? I don't really know if I should keep giving him solids and let his system adjust, or wait a while longer. I guess I'll phone the pediatrician.

Confession Friday: If the weather permits, I take Henry on a long walk around our neighborhood every day. Sometimes he falls asleep in his stroller toward the end. When he does, I try to wake him up so he doesn't "power nap" and miss his regular nap, causing a meltdown later. My neighbors must think I'm crazy trying to wake a sleeping baby in a stroller by "zooming" down the sidewalk singing, or carrying him on my hip as I push the stroller with my other hand. Not easy. But I always feel a little guilty because you aren't supposed to wake a sleeping baby or something. Oh well.

Henry does this thing I like to call "Attack Smooches" where he opens his mouth and attacks my face. I think he's trying to give kisses, but doesn't quite have it down. I giggle, he giggles, it's freakin' ADORABLE. Gawd, I love this kid.

Quick tooth count: Five visible at almost eight months. His bottom two, and three of his upper front four. I think the fourth is aaaalmost ready to break through.

Soren is only a month old and we are still in the sleep-deprivation stage, so I have too many confessions to even get into. Haha.

I have a question though. Soren will only sleep on his side. I put him down on his back every time. Swaddle him up tight and he always tries to "break out of jail" as we like to say. So we try to put him down without the swaddle. NOPE! The only way he''ll sleep is if we put him on his side.

Of course this makes me nervous because i think about him rolling forward and suffocating (he sometimes rolls onto his back and then he''s awake and upset).

What can we do because he needs to sleep and we need to sleep. He didn''t sleep more than 5 minutes at a time last night and I''m under the weather, so I really need some suggestions. Anyone have an idea?

I love everyone''s confessions! Mine is that I pinched him the other day when I fixed his paci on him.
7.gif
Man was he angry!

RPS - Thank you very much for the BFing and milk supply advice!

Here''s my picture for BPF, little Jacob at 6 weeks. He smiles in his sleep... so adorable. Thankfully the acne is going away now.

Re: chunky monkeys – Amber, Piper is absolutely perfect. I hold a special place in my heart for big babies as our LO is also tipping the scales. The highlight of my day is seeing what miscellaneous items I find within the depths of his fat rolls. Lint, my hair, it’s always a surprise! Ha ha

3.gif

Loving the baby pics. It’s amazing how quickly they change from week to week!

Cello – try rolling two towels and place one on either side while Soren’s back is raised slightly (but resting on one of the towels). Seems to work for us. Sorry for the sleep deprivation. Those first 6-8 weeks are just cruel. I joke with people and say that if I’m ever taken hostage and they try using sleep deprivation techniques on me, I’ll give 'em any info they want.

LOL! You reminded me of when we used to find lint under Henry's chins when he was younger. We could only see it if we tilted his head way back. It was simultaneously gross and hilarious.

ETA: China, I forgot to ask- does O like the doorway bouncer? I hope I didn't miss a mention of it.

THIS!! She can NOT wear red (nor can I) because we find it in the bathwater and in her creases and think she''s bleeding! Christmas was a shock- red everywhere!

I''ve attached her leg roll pic, fresh off the changing pad. You can only see the first layer, the thickest roll. I love to squeeze them! During her bath her legs squish together to make a roll-fest.

Aww, love the baby pics. Viz, he is sooo sweet. Amber, luv those chunky leg rolls...soooo cute!!! Aww, Anchor I just LOVE when they smile while they sleep...it is the sweetest thing ever!

Amber - Piper is perfect!! I hear you though, since I also have a chunky baby. We get comments from strangers a LOT since size wise he looks like a 12 month old. He actually weighs the same as my BFF's 18 month old
4.gif
It used to bother me, but not anymore. Personally I love me a chubby baby and babies are supposed to be soft and squishy
9.gif
I also know that just because he's big now, doesn't mean he'll be a big child/grown up. I was actually much bigger than him at his age, and I was not a big child or adult. Not super slim or anything, but not overweight. I think the fact that your DH was a large baby plays a big role in the size she is now. OH and his size has not delayed him at all, in fact he started crawling at 5 1/2 months..so definitely on the early side.

And Lex has the chunkiest legs! My goodness, they're huge. I don't have any pics at work w/ me, but I'll post one when I get home.

I can top all of you on the dropping baby confessions. I can't tell you how many stupid mistakes I've made that have resulted in him hitting his head on the floor. But in my defense the kid does.not.sit.still...EVER! So yeah, I definitely do things thinking he'll just sit there and next thing I know he's crying. I later think WTF was I thinking, but sometimes I don't know where my head is
40.gif
I've recently vowed to myself that I have to REALLY make sure to always keep an eye on him, no matter what doesn't get done by doing so (like cleaning up, cooking etc).

Anchor - I love Jacob's expression in that photo...so cute!

Love the pics everyone!

ETA - Ebree - Lex does the open mouth attack too
30.gif
30.gif
30.gif
Lately we roll around on the floor together just hugging and kissing...well he slobbers on my face, but it is the BEST EVER. My DH and I also tell Lex to give "besos" and we give each other a kiss, he then opens his mouth and kisses DH and I

Haha, Amber!! too funny about thinking the red fuzz on P is blood. What a shock, eh!? W gets tons of lint stuck in his crevices too. Plus, I think he inherited clammy hands and feet from my hubby, so the fuzz gets stuck and is hard to come out!

Confession: Do you have to bathe the kid every time he has a diaper blow-out and it goes up his back? Cause he had two this week and yes I used a diaper wipe, but I haven''t bathed him yet...

IMG_2723.jpg

Awwww, looove all the baby pics.

Thanks Mamas, for making me feel better regarding all the "You''re going to have to watch her weight" comments.

Makes me want to punch someone.

We give Piper a bath every day, is that not good? She looooves it, and just kicks her feet the whole time.

I love Piper! Anyone who thinks she''s less than perfect gets a big

from me. I had one lady at work tell me that DD was HUGE for a 3 month old and I thanked her then went into how with breastfeeding you can never really tell if they''re getting enough to eat, latching issues, how long she nursed for, etc. She didn''t say anything back. As a matter of fact, she doesn''t even ask me about DD anymore haha

I don''t give Sophia a bath ever day at home. MIL tag team (LOL). I don''t like to wash her hair at night because right after the bath she falls asleep and I don''t want her sleeping with her hair even a little wet. So MIL gives her a bath twice a week in order to wash her hair (usually Mondays and Fridays). I''ll give her a bath on Wednesday sometimes and always on Saturday. I''ll also randomly give her a bath at night when she''s being...expressive
20.gif
...since it calms her down. She loves water too and used to kick her feet. Now she likes to splash with her hands and finds it hilarious when it goes all over her face.

Viz come visit me! We''ll leave the men at home with the babies and go shopping!

As a matter of fact, everyone should come visit me! Yay! No snow here
27.gif

Chubby babies - I''ve called other people''s babies chubby and never even thought that they may not take it well. I LOVE chubby babies. They''re the cutest ever. (Except for George, LOL.) Oooo, I just want to squeeze Piper''s little thigh rolls...
30.gif

Teethers - a couple of nights ago, at dinner, SIL said, "Aren''t 10 month olds supposed to have more than 2 teeth?" Then BAM - that night, overnight, he had THREE cut through. Cursed SIL. LOL.

Ebree - George has kind of been that way ever since starting on solids. It hasn''t really seemed to bother him, for the most part, so I''ve figured it may be par for the course for a while. If it goes on long enough that I start to get concerned, we just load him up on prunes and it seems to do the trick.

Anchor -awwww. Love his smile. His skin looks like it''s clearing up well.

Confession? When we were packing, somehow George''s SS card made it into storage. No idea where that sucker is. I wasn''t worrying about it, because we''ll eventually get our own place and unpack and why does a baby really need a social security card before then, but I just figured out why it''s necessary. I sat down to do taxes the other night, and we need his SSN to prove that he''s a real live baby and not a puppy. Dang. We just spent the afternoon getting a replacement card for him. We also got a replacement card for DH, as he somehow managed to lose that. We also managed to lose both copies of our marriage license (we deliberately got 2 to make it harder to lose both) within 2 weeks of getting married. I think we have issues. We''ve decided that we really need to get one of those fireproof document boxes and keep everything in there, for multiple reasons here (fire, us...)

Blen - we have a fire safe for the same reasons, and still managed to loose Kyle''s SS card. Found it after a few hours of searching. It was in the pile on top of the safe. Go figure

Amber, I think it''s fine to bathe baby every day. I just get lazy I spose? oops! Plus, Wes is pretty good in baths but doesn''t LOVE them. I hate having to do it at bedtime, cause I think he gets too worked up with the crying during drying time.

Ok, Wes''s naps for the last few weeks have been 1 hour long. One hour awake, one hour asleep (and that exagerating the sleep portion, make that more like 45 mins.). So today I decided that 1 hour nap was too short. So when he woke up at 40 mins, I stuck the pacifier back in and he slept another 10 mins. He woke again and I stuck the paci in again. Slept another 10 mins. I think we did that one more time and now he been sleeping for 2 hours! Is this a legit way to get my baby to nap longer??? Do you guys do that?

YES!! at least i think so.. i''m trying to ''break'' C of waking up a 4:45 instead of 5:45.. so i play ''plug the baby'' until i''m ready... gahh is that a confession?

Gah--you guys move way too fast! I need to quit work so I can keep up with you all!

Amber: I think the "big baby" comments are just somthing people say. I get that all the time and Evan is a peanut of a baby. He was in the 25th percentile for everything at his 2 month visit and that was when I was getting the most "He''s so chubby! He''s such a big baby" comments.

Happy birthday Kyle!!

Confession: I live in an apartment on the 4th floor. I''ve left E in the house by himself so I could run to get my phone out of the car. I felt so guilty doing it....butI figured people who live in regular houses probably run to their mailboxes and leave the baby inside--so it made me feel a little bit better.

Mela: Hope things warm up in FL...I''m still jealous that you are there and I''m stuck in VA.

be back later--E is crying for me.

Love the pics!!!

Nothing to report here. Yesterday was the first night that I had ever sung Sophia to sleep. She would not go to bed on her own and did not want to be rocked. She wanted to be held but at the same time wanted not to be held. So I sang wheels on the bus and she instantly calmed down. She''d fall asleep, I''d stop, she''d cry, I''d sing, and instant calm. After 15 minutes she fell asleep.

Do you know how many things you need for a 15 minute bus ride?

I had ducks going quack quack quack, seatbelts saying snap snap snap, water going splash splash splash, and at one point there was a president asking vote for me vote for me vote for me (the TV was on in the living room and they said something about Obama lol). Geez

I guess that would be my confession lol!

Just popping in to say this cracked me up!
