PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Blen - Daisy is pretty like Henry, when she''s really hungry then it''s all business, but otherwise she does the whole 10 seconds sucking, pop off, huge smile at me, and as long as I''m looking at her then divebomb back down again - as Ebree says, lather, rinse, repeat...
9.gif

She would always like me to be gazing at her adoringly and HATES my playing with my laptop - she''''ll just about put up with the TV, but otherwise she''ll stop until she has my undivided attention again.
20.gif

TDM - I''ll normally put Daisy down to sleep around 9pm and will go in at least once to feed her before we go to bed around midnight/1am. I''ll either put her in her co-sleeper, or right in the centre of our bed - she''s a lazy moo and disinclined to move horizontally, and the memory foam means she can''t roll off. She''s like me and doesn''t move much when she sleeps.

We''re up and playing... yay... D had a tummyache due to wind, normally a bit of rubbing does it, but this time it took a lot more effort. Now the tummyache is gone... but she is wide awake... grrrrr

Fiery, thanks for the Dr. Sears site!

Thanks for sharing your experiences janine! I know what you mean about feeling like it''s something you can''t share. SIL is a nurse and has told us some stories about babies who''ve been brought in after being rolled on and it''s clear that she thinks anyone who co-sleeps is an idiot. I''m really not worried about rolling on Des though. Our cats used to sleep with us and we never rolled on either of them. I really don''t move around a lot in my sleep, and when I do, it''s back to side. When Des sleeps with us, we usually end up with him on his back, head turned towards me, me on my side kind of curled around him, with my face right next to his. It''s the best when DH cuddles up behind me. I hate getting out of bed when we''re all cuddled like that.

Puppmom, thanks! I use a Canon Rebel XSi with the kit lens. They were shot in natural light, no flash. I''m definitely still learning and a lot of my stuff doesn''t come out as crisp since DS moves a ton and the lighting in our house isn''t the best, causing me to have to use a slower shutter speed so that they''re exposed properly. Those shots actually were a bit darker until I did some editing in photoshop.

Ebree, thanks for posting that! I was having serious anxiety last night about bringing him into our bed. I even tried to sleep on the floor of his room with him. He fell asleep ok, but I sure didn''t. Eventually I put him in his crib and then brought him into bed with us around 3 or 4. As far as lightweight strollers go, we have the Maclaren Volo and tried to put Des in it a few weeks ago and he''s way too small for the harness. It''s possible that we were doing something wrong though because the directions were horrible! No words, just pictures and they weren''t very good pictures. Have fun at the pumpkin patch!

Pandora, when did Daisy start picking your top up and latching herself on? Des doesn''t really fully wake up at night to eat so I have to help him get on the boob even though he can do it himself during the day. He''s definitely nowhere close to picking my shirt up on his own though! I''m jealous. Sorry to hear you still have a lot of pain. I still have discomfort too. I wouldn''t say pain, necessarily, but sometimes if I sit the wrong way it does not feel good. That''s great that your DH is being so understanding. DH tries to be understanding, and he''s never gotten mad or anything, but I think he feels like I''m rejecting him every time I say no to DTD. He asks/tries a lot and it leaves me feeling really pressured. Glad to hear all is ok with Daisy!

Blen, thanks for your input on bedsharing! That''s what I''d read too about it being safe when done right which is why I was kind of freaking out about that article yesterday. When I''m nursing Des, sometimes he''ll do what Henry does and other times he''s totally concentrating on eating. Sometimes if I haven''t gotten to him quickly enough he gets upset that he''s had to wait and will kind of smack my boob until he calms down. It''s actually pretty funny, kind of like he''s reprimanding me for not feeding him the second he realized he was hungry. I remember reading in baby books about how bfing is supposed to be this huge bonding time. Generally, I don''t think we bond any more during nursing than we do during play. Probably less even.

TanDogMom, since we''re not cosleeping full time, we start him off in the crib and then bring him into bed with us later.

PenelopeJane, thanks for your co-sleeping input! I''m glad to hear I''m not the only one still not interested in DTD.

Des did the funniest thing last night. After his bath I laid him down on a blanket on the floor like I always do. We did a little lotion massage and I flipped him onto his tummy to let his little tush air out a bit before putting his diaper on. I went to get some pjs and when I turned back around, he had his butt so high up in the air with his little toes digging into the ground and he was trying to jump! He kept going back and forth between getting his knees under him and doing this jumping butt in the air thing. I''ve never seen anything like it. It was hysterical! I wish we would have gotten it on tape. He still hasn''t figured out how to push up with his hands though so his cheek was pressed to the ground the whole time. I called to DH to come look and he got there just in time to see him flop himself over onto his back. I don''t think it can be classified as rolling, but it got the same end result, lol. I put him back on his tummy and he did it again, minus the flop over to his back. I think that might have been the longest tummy time session he''s ever done and I think the only reason he fussed at the end was because he was bored. He doesn''t see the value in rolling yet. He learned to do it right at 2 months, did it every time we put him on his tummy for a week or 2 and then got bored of it and has only done it once since. When he did it then though he would arch his back and just kind of lean, no pushing off with his hands. I guess I should be glad he doesn''t push up yet, otherwise we might have a crawler way sooner than we''re ready for!

Ebree-Take pics in the pumpkin patch! Can't wait to see! I found out I was pregnant on Halloween too! And the additional 5 tests were taken November 1st to confirm

Pandora-Glad to hear that Daisy is ok. I have a feeling she's going to be a tough cookie just like her mom
2.gif

Blen-Sophia does one of two things when she nurses. She either completely closes her eyes (not sleeping but in a this stuff is sooo good kind of way) or will look up at me. I try not to look too much at her because when I do, she does smile, un-latches, and then gets milk everywhere!

TDM-Thanks for sharing your experience. I keep hoping that it'll get better and that we are still "adjusting." I honestly thought that getting Sophia out of our room would make things a little easier but maybe it'll change once she sleeps more. I don't know.

Robbie-Des is so funny! Is he really strong? Sophia is learning how to roll over and is experimenting with it but we're not there yet.

****
So I have some good sleeping news. She slept from 8:30 until 7am and de-swaddled
36.gif
. I'm so proud of her
16.gif
. I really hope she keeps up with it. I think I finally figured out her routine. She likes to take a nap around 7-7:15 until about 7:30-7:45. It's a really quick cat nap. Before I would do the whole bed time routine at 7-7:15 and when she would wake up, I'd try to get her to sleep again and she would get so frustrated. So these past two days we're putting her down in her clothes at 7, we eat dinner, get her out of bed when she wakes up, play for a little while, and as soon as she starts yawning we start up the routine.

I also think she's really happy being free. She is still sleeping with the positioner. For now we're going to leave it. She seems to enjoy it because she likes to sleep with one leg up against the positioner (just like her father. FI sleeps with a leg bent up). I think that's why she didn't like the sleep sack too much. It was too restricting on her legs. What a character
37.gif

ETA: just wanted to add that even though she slept, I was still up at 2am lol. I jumped out of bed when I realized it was 2 am and practically ran to her room to make sure she was ok. Then I figured since I was up, might as well pump
20.gif

quick post

Fiery- im sooo sorry u are dealing with double trouble..FI should be making ur life easier and not harder! sometimes they need that "kick" to realize what they need to do and im glad he is stepping up! keep us updated!

DD- GOOD LUCK! lots of moving dust!

Mela- i dont know how u do 7-7 but thats amazing!

Jon is sleeping from 9pm to about 730/8am..so i cant complain...jackie has her moments some days sttn some days not ..but that would be just one wakeup when not and she takes the podee bottle and goes right down..so not too bad...rice is going ok..they arent thrilled with it but we entertain with loud toys and they finish their bowl ..cant wait for actual foods :)

HI to everyone else!!!

His legs are because all he does all day is jump. Even when he gets tired of his johnny jump up(what MIL has) or the jumperoo he wants you to hold him and let him jump on your tummy. Kid''s got no upper body strength though, lol. That''s great that Sophia slept well last night! I''ll keep my fingers crossed that it keeps up!

ebree - we started putting Kyle in the umbrella stroller at 3 months. I got one that can recline and hasd sholder straps so that he would be stable enough in it. He started sitting at 4 months so he had major head and neck control at that point anyway. I''m sure Henry will be fine! Enjoy the pumpkin patch!

blen - I''m not BFing, but at about 6.5 months Kyle started holding his own bottle, so half the time when he''s eating in the morning I''m getting ready for work, and in the evening he''d rather watch the dog and cats while he eats
20.gif
(I know, I''m a bad mommy). Before that point he would look at me some as he ate, and I would look at the TV for most of it... So I''m sure you''re fine!

Pandora - I hope they don''t go overboard with Daisy''s black eye! At least you did get to have it looked at and know it''s fine for sure.

Fiery - Woohoo for STTN! I hope she keeps it up for you and you''re able to get a full night''s sleep.

Hi, mommies!

I wanted to thank you for all the gift recommendations for my friend. I gave them the Homedics Lullaby Sound Spa and they LOVED it. They didn''t have anything like it, yet, and their beautiful little baby is having trouble sleeping so they were very excited to try it out.

So, thank you!

Quick drive by...

Robbie On our volo, the harness was huge also. I don''t know what they were thinking making it so big. I pulled ours back behind and through another set of the holes. Now it fits him perfectly. I had forgotten all about my dismay when I first put him in it! If you want me to take a pic, I will. It''s working well.

Probably at about 4 months. She''s been able to latch herself since about 6/7 weeks - I get into huge trouble from her during the day if I don''t whip a boob out the second she decides that she is quite literally about to die of hunger - which she of course hadn''t realised until that exact second
20.gif

Sorry about your DH - for both of you. Mine doesn''t ask or try at all - but I do get lots of cuddles and affection which is important for us both - I did say he could get an interim mistress if he was desperate
3.gif
! I think when things don''t feel right or comfortable that it impacts even more and extends any feelings one has towards associations of those parts with the giving birth thing rather than the DTD thing - not so much of a turn-on in my book...

Re the co-sleeping, I always shared my single bed with one of our cats when I lived with my parents. One of them even moved her litter of 6 kittens in with us one night, in all those years I never ever rolled on them - although I did move the kittens straight out as six was a bit much in my little bed! I reckon it''s a good test of how you sleep with small creatures.

Daisy is a ''stander'' - all she wants to do is stand upright on my stomach - I think I got a flat stomach back soley due to madam insisting on stamping on it! It does get quite exhausting holding her up all the time. I''ve got her a jumperoo, but her feet don''t touch the ground yet so we still have to get started on the jumping.

Talking of which... does anyone have any thoughts or experience regarding these head protector helmets? We have wooden floors throughout (no rugs or carpets due to DH''s allergies) and I''m super-paranoid about her hitting her head. I''m tempted to get one for when she''s learning to walk and because she''s pulling up on things already and at some point I''m not going to be watching her like a hawk.

Thanks ladies. I feel like less of a bad mom. If he''s actually looking at me I''ll look back, but since he usually isn''t I just figure that I probably give him enough attention when we''re playing together.

We had a hellacious night last night. George was up every half hour or so, and I really don''t know what set that off. I don''t think he feels quite right. I''m off of work today to work on packing and decluttering again, but all I want to do is take a nap now.

Pandora - you''ve got me wanting to let George stand on my stomach now. He usually just stands on the floor, but flattening out sounds GREAT right about now.

I ordered a nursing necklace at your favorite website in the world. LLL suggested it as a possible solution to give him something more appropriate to take it all out on. I haven't received it yet, but I really hope that it will help some at least. He's also fond of yanking on my hair, especially the fine ones at my neckline that really hurt. And he reaches down DH's shirt neck to go after his chest hair.
20.gif
And - poor Dylan - George is fascinated by Dylan's long ears and keeps trying to pull on them. When he gets ahold of them, he always yanks a bunch of hairs out.
7.gif
Fortunately Dylan's our most laid back dog and doesn't really seem to care, but still. I'm trying to teach George "gentle" but I think he has a ways to go before actually learning that.

NYC - we still haven't decided, and our pediatrician doesn't have the vaccine in right now so we have some time to try to figure something out. George isn't otherwise acting sick, and while he's drooling profusely, that's been normal for him for the last two months. I dunno. I feel bad for him though.

Pre-preg jeans and pants... I''m nowhere near fitting into them at 6.5 months post-partum, and I can''t tell if my hips have permanently grown. My mom says that they have.
20.gif
Keep, or get rid of? They''re kind of expensive to replace, but I also don''t want to hang onto clothing that I''m never going to fit into again.

nyc - I plan on getting Kyle both flu shots next month when we go in for his 9 month check-up. He won''t be getting any other shots then, and they should hopefully have some at the office. I''m not really concerned about Kyle getting sick, it''s the two 7 week old infants at day-care that I don''t want him infecting if he does get it.

blen - You could have spread out some, my SIL didn''t go all the way back either. If you think it''s feasible you''ll get back into them in the next 6 months, keep them. If not, donate/sell.

6.5 PP here as well and have the same decision to make. I''m 10 lbs away from pre-preggo weight, but my jeans don''t fit...they just won''t go up past my thighs, but I''m waiting til I''m at my prepreggo weight and if I still can''t fit into them then they''re going to Goodwill. I''m embarrassed to say that I still wear my maternity jeans.
14.gif

Anyway, I would hang onto at least a few pairs esp if they were expensive cause who knows, your body might change over the months.

Right there with you gals - but I have a lot of weight yet to lose and I have not given up. I am about 1 size up from pre-preg so I think it''s a possibility. Maybe. For me it''s not hips but stomach. I have just bought a few things in the new size and trying very hard to lose weight!

TDM, I''d love to see a pic! Des really hates his carseat so he generally dislikes being in the snap n go now because of that. I''ve been wearing him in the moby when I have to take him places, but sometimes it would be nice to be able to put him in a stroller. Trying on clothes with him in the moby is not easy!

Pandora, I think you might just be lucky in regards to the flat stomach. Des jumps on mine every time I hold him and I''m still all flabby. I think if my skin was tighter my stomach would look about the same as it did when I was this weight pre-preg. What about just not putting socks on Daisy? That should give her a better grip with her feet so she''s less likely to fall all the way to her head.

Blen, poor George (and you!)! Good luck with the packing!

NYC, Des won''t be old enough for flu shots until December, so we''re most likely not doing them this year. I don''t know what we''ll do in the future. Our pedi wasn''t really concerned about us getting vaccinated for h1n1. She said if it''s readily available, get it, but if it''s not, don''t sweat it.

Re pants: I''d hold onto them for a bit longer. I''ve heard that your hips can take a while to shift back. If I''m back at pre-preg weight and they still don''t fit after a year, then I''ll give up on them. I actually don''t think my hips spread though. I guess that''s a benefit of having wide hips to start with! Any increased width on mine appears to be due to fat. Blegh. I still wear some maternity pants too. I can close most of my pre-preg pants, but the resulting muffin top is NOT flattering. I''ve got 7.5 lbs to go, but I''m pretty sure I''ll need to be below pre-preg weight for me to be satisfied with how I look. I had a lot more muscle before and NONE now, so even when I''m at the same weight, my body fat % will be much higher.

Fiery, did you have another successful night?

I have a busy weekend planned. Tomorrow we have DH''s nephew''s bday party (which we still need to get a present for!) and afterwards I''m photographing my SIL''s HS reunion! I''m not getting paid or anything, but I''m going as a representative of my friend''s photography company and she helped me to set up site, so if people buy any prints I could actually make a little bit. I ordered an external flash and it came in the other day, but I''m really out of practice with using a flash so I''m kind of nervous.

DS has a little cold and I think it''s affecting his appetite. I pumped more than I ever have this morning at work because he took about 2 sips at his 7 am feeding. I had to pump a half hour early because I was in pain from being so full. I think I''m going to pick up some "little noses" if his sniffles don''t stop. I''m thinking maybe being able to breathe better would help his appetite. Anyone used this?

I''m wearing maternity lounge pants right now, and it sounds like I''m in good company.
5.gif

I could probably wear a size 12 right now. I''m wearing a size 14 pant, but they''re now all loose on me. I feel like I have a ways to go. Maybe get rid of my size 8s, and keep the size 10s??

Robbie, George has had a continual cold since starting daycare. I''ve used the little noses saline spray and I''m not convinced that it does that much. My doc recommended it though. She told me that it would be even better for me to spray bmilk up his nose, but he HATES me doing anything to his nose right now and that just requires too much coordination.

TDM I have the opposite problem. Stomach is flat-ish (but soft and squishy) and I don''t have much to lose, but my whole lower body is huge. Sigh.

Blen that sounds like a good compromise.

Robbie poor Des. Axel was sick for 3 weeks and I used little noses & bulb syringe before bed. I''m with Blen, though, that I don''t think the saline drops did anything to make him sleep well, but it seemed to help get everything out when I used the bulb syringe. Try using it before his feeding time to see if that helps him eat.

Pandora
I had no experiences with the baby protective helmet, but we do have tile floor on our first floor. M had never fall on her head while she was cruising or walking. She had fall on her head when she was playing around, but nothing that caused a bump/bruise. I guess I am saying that I can understand your worries, but I don''t think the helmet is necessary. That''s just my opinion and experience.

Thank you for the stroller advice, everyone! I think Henry will be able to handle it at five months- he's got great head/neck control now, at just under four.

We had a bit of a rough night last night as well- he was up at 1:30, 4:00, and 6:00, and I had a Dr. appt at 8:00. Blah. He really only wakes when hungry, though, because he completely drains a side each time. Maybe a growth spurt in the midst of his eating constantly? LOL, I'm used to it now.

Blen- I think keeping the 10s is a good idea.

I'm at pre-preg weight now (though the furthest from toned I've ever been), and it appears my hips didn't widen that much, but my FEET did! They stayed the same length-wise, but upon trying on all my cute pre-preg shoes again, I realized they're super snug at the top. My ultimate goal is to lose 10 more lbs (or replace this flab with muscle), and I'm trying to lose a good portion of that in the next two months. We'll see.

Hey everyone! The flight was good but the time difference and sleeping in the same room as us is really messing with HUnter! He woke last night at 10, 12, 1, 4, 5, and 6!!

I''m hoping he gets better at sleeping soon before I literally go mental!

re co sleeping I don''t remember what I posted either

Sorry! But I do know the conversation was when this thread started so you can probably skim until you find it.

Weight 8 months pp and still hanging on to about 5pbs... not to mention the other 20 I need to lose. I vote that you keep the smaller sized pants Blen. I think you will be your pre-preggo size again. But maybe just pack them away so they are not tormenting you?

dreamer - I hope things get back on schedule soon. How long util you get to move into your hosue?

Diaper question for you guys...

Kyle is now 8 months old, and he sleeps about 10-11 hours straight each night. Lately he''s woken up damp/leaking in the morning. This used to happen once in a while, but it''s been more consistant. We''ve been using Huggies snug and dry in size 3 (he''s about 19 pounds now). Is it time to get "nighttime" diapers? Or would a different brand better?

Glad I''m not the only one whose baby screams bloody murder the second he decides he''s hungry! He goes from playing contently to screaming his head of in no time! And I can''t even whip out a boob, I have to get the bottle ready (takes 4 minutes to heat a cup of water and warm the bottle to room temp.) and by that time he is often hysterical! Plus, he screams half the time when I try to burp him!

Re: weight...I''m sooooo disappointed. I''m actually down a few pounds below prepreg. weight. But I was overweight beforehand, and I thought it had to do with my thyroid meds. I was steadily losing weight, but then had my levels tested again and my meds adjusted, and I went right back to gaining weight. It stinks because I think this level of meds is best for my overall health, but it makes me pack on the pounds.

Today is DH''s last day (and night since he is on call) of surgery!!!! I''m so freaking excited! And I had a babysitter come over today to meet me and Jacks and it seems like she is going to work out once I have her over a few times while I''m here to get used to his routines.

Sorry for all the rough nights! Jacks is still doing well with co-sleeping on me, although I''m struggling to find a balance between wanting to get up and feed him every time he starts stirring and having him not really eat and then be up a few hours later, or waiting a bit too long, and then he totally wakes himself up and doesn''t go right back to sleep.

I''m also having an issue in that he''s finally starting to poop more (yay!), but he does it while eating, and then he won''t finish the bottle. So he''s not eating as much during the day, so he''s wanting to eat more at night.

We''ve been using Huggies snug and dry in size 3 (he''s about 19 pounds now). Is it time to get ''nighttime'' diapers? Or would a different brand better?
We had the same issue and we just went up to size 4 Huggies Little movers, problem solved! We also used to use snug and dry size 3/

We move in on the 31st!

Lurker on this thread popping in to say Blen, maybe hang onto your favourite pre-preg clothes? I am now back to pre-preg weight, as of yesterday lol and my baby is 17 months. To be fair, I did nothing about losing weight, it just hasn't been on my radar. It just happened, mostly with BFing I think and over a looooong time. My hips are back to normal now too but I think really just in the last few weeks and my feet finally fit into my pre-preg shoes. I took a while and I donated some clothes and shoes that I really wish I'd kept.

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Dr who did my C-section though. I don't know how she did it, but for the first time in my life, my stomach is flat. A little droopy and quishy maybe, but the jaunty little pot belly that was there even when I was slightly underweight is gone. The woman is a genius.

Hi Mustang, our little guys are pretty close in age- P just turned 9 months. He started leaking at night right around the time we needed to switch to a size 3 and even just the regular bigger diaper didn''t contain it all at night. He sleeps around 11hrs. We got the Huggies Overnights and they''ve been our lifesaver! Some mornings I can''t believe how heavy his diaper is! So worth paying the little extra to not have to change everything the morning. Good luck!

Those of you moving with little ones-I don''t know how you do it. I give you credit because the thought of packing and organizing WITH a little one, just stresses me to think about!

Hi to all the other mommies! I lurk often and feel the pain all the new mommies are going through. I know it gets old hearing this, but it gets better! I hope to post more often! I''ll post a new pic of P when I get a chance. Have a great weekend everyone!

On clothing... I am down to only my favorite pre-preg clothes. The issue right now is that we''re moving from 1600 sq ft plus basement and attic and garage into one bedroom - not a one bedroom apt, but one bedroom - and the rest of our stuff is going into storage. I''m sure that my in-laws would be fine with us storing coats in the coat closet and toys in the family room, but we''re still not looking at a lot of space and we''ll have to pay each month for any additional storage we need. Then when we get our own place, it''s a HCOL area and so all we''d be able to afford would be substantially smaller than what we have now. So we are trying to go through all of our possessions with a fine toothed comb. If we were staying in the same house, or even moving to a similarly sized space, I''d definitely keep the clothes. I think I''m going to go ahead and keep the 10s at any rate. Still not sure about the 8s. (I''ve already gotten rid of the 6s.

) Thanks so much for all of the input!

George and I both came down with bad colds last night, and he needed his nose suctioned out several times in the middle of the night as he was having troubles breathing. And each time I do it, he acts like I''m murdering him.

L2L - it is SO stressful! I''m amazed at how many of us are moving, and none of them are little moves either! Everyone seems to be going long-distance.

Here''s a more recent pic of our little guy. He''s almost 8 months here. I love seeing everyone else''s pics so I just wanted to share mine too. We have a few others that turned out cute that I''ll load when I get a chance. We''re so in love with our little guy...

This age is so much fun!! I know every time I do post I say that... but really, they start to really show their personality and it''s so darn cute!
