PS Mommy Thread-Newborn to 12 months!

Kyle''s still got the fever, but that''s his only symptom... He was 100.4 again last night before I put him down, and was 99.7 this morning (after sleeping 12 hours!). I called the pedi and left a messege for the nurse to call me back. I''m not too worried, since he''s acting completely normal, but I thought I''d check and see if there''s something going around that I don''t know about. It''s probably just teething. DH went to work this morning and is going to come home early so I can go in to work for a few hours and just catch up on things. Hopefully tomorrow will be abck to normal.

Miracle-Do tell. I''m all for TMI/Gross stuff when it comes to mommyhood lol

PJ-Hilarious! You have to post photos (if you are comfortable with that of course). We were thinking about doing that as well and entering the halloween costume contest at work (we have 10 people that would have done it).

Pandora-That is amazing about Daisy! She is such a beauty and so photogenic. Can we see some of these pictures??

TDM-She''s 3.5 months so I''m not really sure if its distraction. She pulls off but doesn''t look around. A coworker suggested that maybe she was "playing" but she pulls off so quickly as if she were done eating that I don''t think it''s playing either. We''ll see what the LC says. I can''t believe A has a tooth! So cute!!

Thanks qt!

Wow lots of teething babies! L2L and MG, hope P and Kyle start feeling better!

***
Sophia did this weird thing last night. She went to bed at 9pm (!) but then woke up every hour until I finally put on some pants. I think she''s used to being really, really warm at MIL''s house so that''s how she prefers to sleep (I was just doing LS feet pjs but MIL does LS onsie, pants, socks, shoes, and swaddles her bottom half
32.gif
). Anyway, at 2am she woke up and I went over assuming she was hungry. I picked her up, she curled into a little ball, and by the time I sat on the glider she was completely passed out. I put her back down to sleep and the next time she woke up it was 5:30
33.gif
. So random.

Sorry about a "me" post but I''m so bummed out.

The trip to Singapore has been confirmed
7.gif
. I posted a while back about "country hopping" in November. I managed to convince them to either use webcams or local resources since we are budgeting hours for a big audit firm to help us out. But the CFO came back and said he wants us in Singapore. It''s a country we''ve never been too and he wants the presence. We''re doing 4 audits while there and I''m the lead on 2
23.gif
. They''re talking about 2-3 weeks.

I told my boss that I absolutely cannot do 2-3 weeks. I just can''t. Sophia will be 4, maybe 5 months. I rather do a week where I work round the clock than stay longer than that. He knows how I feel and is going to work it out so that I can leave after a week. We have maybe 8 team members going so I know that if I leave a good program to follow, they can do the work.

I''m so bummed
39.gif
. I love the idea of traveling but not while she''s so young
7.gif
. I hope my supply doesn''t tank too. I figure I''ll just pump and dump. And I need to work on a freezer stash stat.

I''m sorry fiery, 2-3 weeks is way to long to leave your LO!

My mom called earlier and told me my cousin just lost her baby
39.gif
. She was bout 24 weeks I think, due in February, and had developed HELLP syndrome. They had to induce her becuase her liver was failing. It just makes me so appreciative of having an easy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

Fiery, could you not take Sophia with you? It would be easy and cheap for your company to fix a nanny while you are out there and make life easier for everyone.

Small babies really do travel pretty well - my mother took 3 of us under 6 round the world by herself when my brother was only 3 months and that was back in 1979!

MG - Thanks! Sorry to hear that Kyle''s sick
7.gif
Is he feeling any better yet? That''s so sad about your cousin
7.gif

Miracles - What a beautiful baby! I love her name too! I also want to know the gross thing you didn''t want to post.

PJ - The Dr. said they don''t want to see him unless he starts exhibiting symptoms of being sick. They said everything he''s doing right now are signs of teething. Love the halloween idea! DH and I are going to a party this weekend as dharma initiative workers. We got Des a onesie that says "change my diaper every 108 minutes to avoid another incident."

Pandora, that''s awesome about Daisy! I''m with Fiery, I want to see pics! I''m with your DH, I think you should try some modeling with her! If she seems like she doesn''t like it you can always stop. I think there''s a big difference between modeling and pagents. Yay for bedsharing! We''re officially bedsharing now too and I feel much more rested.

CDT - Thanks!

TDM - I''m not so sure it''s a blood blister anymore. I don''t know what it is. A bruise maybe? I feel like it should be more translucent if it''s a blister. Wow, a tooth! That''s so cute!

Qtiekiki - Thanks! I love your profile pic. Your LO is so cute!

L2L - Thanks! Awe, poor little guy. Hopefully these teeth will come in quicker than the first two.

fiery - that sucks about the trip. I agree with Pandora though, is bringing her with you an option?

Des''s crappy appetite is causing my supply to tank.] I''m already eating 2 servings of oatmeal a day and drinking a ton of water. I''m going to try drinking even more water and pumping every 2 hrs at work instead of every 3 to see if it helps. I''m not ready to be done with BFing.

Des keeps trying to roll, but he has is arms sticking out too far to the sides so they stop him. When he started rolling at 2 months he was arching his back and leaning to do it. Now he''s bending his knees underneath him and trying to push himself over like that. So far he''s just managing to scoot himself around in a circle. It''s pretty funny to watch, especially when he sticks his little butt up in the air. He''s tolerating tummy time much better now. I''ve been getting a really long stretch with him in the evening after his bath. I put him down naked on a really soft blanket. His little tush gets red if I don''t give it some time to air out.

Gross thing you never read about and nobody tells you....

If you have a vaginal birth...be prepared to smell like a corpse at about week 2-3 post partum. Blech.
6.gif

Jeez, you gals don''t care about TMI do you. You''re such enablers.

Hmm, I don''t remember that part. I must have been too sleep deprived to notice.

Where the heck has Mela been? I haven''t seen her around in a while.

Hey all! Just stopping by to say hi :) I posted pics of the girls (Finally!) in the 12 to 36 month thread... they are turning 1 tomorrow! The time goes by faster than ever now -- hope you are all enjoying every minute with those gorgeous little ones!!
hugs,
jen and marina and sophie

robbie - so cute Des trying to roll. At least he''s liking the tummy time better. He''ll be army crawling before you know it!

Kyle''s back at the sitter today. He fine, I think it was just a teething fever, it never got over 100.4, and he wasn''t acting sick at all. When I dropped him off this morning she did say one of the other kids went home with a fever on Monday also. His was over 101 though. I don''t think Kyle got anything, but now DH is acting like he''s getting a cold.

I think the pregnancy bug is going around! When I was preggo I was the only one at the time. Now I have a friend due 12/24/09, one due 5/26/10, and my SIL is due 6/13/10. And I have no wish to join them
20.gif
!

Mgal so so sorry about your cousin''s baby.
39.gif
I always give Axel an extra big hug when I hear about things like this. We are lucky. I''m glad Kyle didn''t get sick...hope your DH gets passed it, too.

Fiery I will post photos if DH is adventurous enough to dress up as a woman! The J&K costume idea sprouted after we had had a few beers, so it was cool and funny at the time, but I''ll be surprised if it comes to fruition. When I read that Sophia woke up every hour until you put pants on, I thought you meant she woke up every hour until YOU put some pants on yourself..lol. I REALLY hope your boss can work something out for you!!

Robbie hahaha, awesome. We''re pretty addicted to Lost. And that''s good Des isn''t symptomatic. Teething sucks. Axel has been teething for like 4 months with no tooth in sight. Tush in the air...so cute!

Miracles I remember smelling really bloody, if that''s what you mean???

Jen congrats on the big 1!

Axel woke 6x last night. Crazy! He had 2 huge poops this morning so I hope there''s no repeat tonight!!!

hi all...had some sleep last night..yay...she slept from 9pm-4am
9.gif
dd can roll from her back to front, but not to her back again...shes going to be 4 months saturday...time flies when you are sleep deprived..lol

fiery...i agree that 2-3 weeks is a long time...i went to jamaica a few weeks ago and left dd for 4 nights..it was very hard....i pumped and dumped, but my supply still suffered...i am just getting it back up now...that part stinks

mg...sorry about your cousin..it also happened to a friend of mine at 21 weeks

Mgal, so sorry about your cousin, that is so sad.

Miracles, never heard of that one. Your granddaughter is so cute!

Fiery, yikes for a long trip away from Sophia (who is just gorgeous by the way!). Glad your boss is letting you do just a week.

Pandora, fun about the possible modeling. I agree with Robbie that you could try it and see how she responds.

Yikes about all the sick babies and teething babies. Those of you going through teething, have you found anything that really helps?

Robbie, I hope you get your supply back up!

As for us, Jacks is officially laughing! And he rolled over twice last night (belly to back)! He accomplished both around bathtime, which seems to be his favorite time of the day. So fun!

I went out to buy some sleep sacks today because I''m officially trying to deswaddle. He still won''t really take long naps and will only sleep at night when being held, but I''ve still been swaddling him because that has been his "cue" for sleep. I''m hoping that I can replace the swaddle with the sleep sack so that if he ever grows out of this terrible sleep stage he''ll be able to sleep with his arms out. I really hope he does soon because I feel like I worry so much of the day about if he''s getting enough sleep, and I can''t even put him down on his stomach for naps anymore because he now thinks of that as "playtime" and wants to try to roll over.

Miracles- GORGEOUS photos of a gorgeous baby girl. Congratulations to your daughter (and you!)

fiery- I'm sorry about the trip, but it's great that your boss is arranging for a shorter stay. It won't be fun to leave your baby, but the good news is that she won't remember it at this age. It might be good to leave some stuff that smells like you behind to help comfort her?

MustangGirl- I'm so sorry about your cousin's baby.
7.gif

Robbie- Henry does the exact same thing when trying to roll! He just won't do it anymore. He's more focused on crawling now.

Hi sk8er! Your girls are adorable!

Penelope- Fingers crossed it was just a fluke! H was up every two hours three nights ago, but has slept pretty well since. Hope it's the same with your LO!

NYC- Yay for good sleeping AND rolling!

Sabine- Isn't their laughter the best? Congratulations to Jacks on his first rolls!

Does anyone else have a 'regular pooper'? I swear, this kid is (TMI alert) more regular than I've ever been! He does two huge poops in the morning and one in the early afternoon. It's almost like we could set a watch to them.
3.gif

In jewelry news, I lost my wedding ring last week.
7.gif
I went to put it on one morning and couldn't find it in one of the three (
14.gif
) places it usually is. We've looked everywhere. It was insured, and I'm thinking I'll replace it with something relatively low maintenance that I'll rarely remove. When I do, I'll keep it in one specific spot- don't want to take any more chances.

I put in notice at work at Monday!
36.gif
Just a week and a half left now.

George is starting to get major separation anxiety over daycare drop off, which is difficult. I hate leaving him screaming. But I know that he''s back to himself really quickly, and that he has a blast playing with the "big boys" in his class once I''m gone.

He''s still not crawling, but he''s able to go from a sitting position to pulling himself forward and over into a crawl position, and can pull up into a standing position as well. And he can scoot backwards like a pro.

Fiery - good luck with your trip. That''s a while to be away from a young baby, but at least you were able to get them down to just the week.

Small babies really do travel pretty well - my mother took 3 of us under 6 round the world by herself when my brother was only 3 months and that was back in 1979!
I was asked to travel for a few days to the other side of the state, and asked my supervisor about this as daycares here are not able to keep the baby in their care for more than 9.5 hours and my husband''s expected to work 10 hours per day minimum. My supervisor wouldn''t okay it, because he said a bear might eat George.
6.gif
I know the area is extremely rural, but I was just being asked to go to schmooze with people at catered receptions - not go backpacking in the wilderness. I ended up declining.

Pandora- On the ugly baby, you could go vague - "Oh, what a baby!" - or you could choose some non-beauty characteristic to focus on - "What a full head of hair!" or "I just love chubby babies!" or "Look how strong she is, holding her head up by herself!" I have a friend who is an expert at this.
2.gif

MG - that''s incredibly sad.
7.gif

Miracles - she''s absolutely adorable! Thanks for sharing.

Robbie - congrats on almost-rolling! I think my supply temporarily tanked around that time, but I was able to get it back up. I hope that going to every 2 hours will help you. Are you doing breast compressions while pumping, and then hand expressing some afterwards? That really helped my supply, much more than the water and oatmeal did. I got a BM up the nose suggestion from a second pediatrician on Monday... I don''t know how these people expect that level of coordination from me!!

Jen - good to hear from you!

Ebree - sorry about your wedding ring.

L2L - In AA now, and we''re moving to Virginia. Just in time for winter, phew.

Thanks for asking about me Robbie!

Blen - hip hip hooray! Congrats on giving notice and starting up your new path! I'm so happy for you

HI SK8erJen!! Nice to "see" you again

Miracles - hilarious! hahaha.

Robbie - according to Dr. Jack Newman, all women experience a supply dip around 3-4 months pp. I certainly did, and combined with my severe breast issues where I was only nursing from one side, I was deeply concerned about my supply. I went to see Jack Newman, and he put me on Domperidone http://www.nbci.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=14:domperidone-getting-started-&catid=5:information&Itemid=17 I have noticed a HUGE increase in my supply. When I pump, I get over 5 oz from each breast. I'm going away on a 4 days "girls trip" to Miami in Nov and I've been storing my milk for that. Once I return (I'll pump while I'm away) I'm going to wean off the drug - but its been GREAT for my supply. Something to think about.
Fiery - this may be good for you too if you're worried about your supply while you're away on business. Thank god its only a week. Good for you ;)

Ebree -sorry to hear bout the wedding ring. That stinks. As for the pooping, you're lucky! You can do "elimination communication" when it's time for toilet training.

I spoke too soon about my little pooper...he's back to pooping almost every time he eats again. That's like, 5-6 poops a day! Sheeesh.

Mgal - sorry about your cousin losing her baby. That is so sad
7.gif
I hope Kyle is feeling better with those pesky teeth

Sabine - Jacks is so active and strong! YEY mommy! Romeo is still not rolling at all at 20 weeks. My little couch potato. (eye roll)

Pj - 6 times in one night ! Poor you! How do you function. I thought Fiery meant Sophia woke up until she put pants on too. HAHA. So funny.

Natalina - I was in terrible pain BFing for the longest time, until it finally came to a head and I went to Jack Newman. As it turned out, Romy was tongue tied and it was aggrivating the already bad latch. Get your pedi / LC to rule it out. I wish I'd have known to check it out earlier. I suffered for nothing! Congrats and welcome to the other side

Fiery, Robbie and Miracles - Gorgeous pics. PS does create some beauties ;) Pandora - lets see that beauty of yours!! I'm enabling....

TanDog - Hi! Congrats on the tooth :)

DD - how the relocation feeling?

I have pretty much nothing to report. Just us, being boring, doing the same ol' routine and same schedule over and over. I try to get out once a day (one errand per day) to break it up a little, but still trying to respect his sleep needs. Ho Hum. boooooooring.

*Romeo 20 weeks*

Quick question: When your LO''s starting making more noises and "talking" more, did they often go quickly from making noises and having fun talking to crying? Jacks is sitting in his bouncy talking away to his reflection in the fireplace, but then he''ll cry for a minute and then go back to happily cooing. I think it''s because he''s trying to make new noises and then just starts crying because it''s another noise he can make and he''s used to doing it when he''s trying to make noise, but it seems odd to me.

PJ - I love the Jon and Kate idea!

sabine - we''ve tried baby orajel, tylenol once, and the teething tablets. Kyle also seems to like chewing, so I also have a few teething rings in the firdge (the dog already popped 3 of them
14.gif
). The orojel we did at night when he seemed to fussy to sleep, and it might have helped a bit, but getting it on the gums in the right place was difficult. The teethign tablets he loves, but I don''t know if they really do anything. You might just have to try a few things and see what works best for Jacks. Good luck with de-swaddling! I stopped at 3 months also, and it took about a week for his sleep routine to go back. Kyle "yells" while talking to himself. It;s probably just another noise to make.

ebree - Sorry about your wedding band
38.gif
. But, have fun picking out something new.

blen - Congrats on onle a week left! I hope the move goes well.

mela - Nice to see you here again!

So my little baby is doing just fine, but now the big baby is home from work. Men are such whiners when they''re sick! We have 1 confirmed case of swine flu at work, and the guy that sat in the cube next to him is out sick also...

yay!!!! a full nights sleep for me...i feel like a new woman!!! dd slept from 8:30-5am. now that shes sleeping better i notice lots of drool and chewing on her fist---teething!!! and the fun never ends...lol

ebree...sorry about your ring...i can''t wait to see the new one though

robbie...keep at the pumping and feeding as much as possible...i just had a dip a few weeks back and was about to try fenugreek when my supply started up again...its hard sometimes but it''ll go back up as long as you keep at it.

sabine...my dd laughs, cries, and coos all at the same time...lol....maybe they scare themselves, but most babies do that

blen...the week will fly by

Hiya PS Mommies!

Just popping in with a question. I''m about 8 months pregnant, and am thinking of buying crib bedding sometime next week, along with some other nursery supplies. I''m confused about bedding options, though - especially crib bumpers. Some articles I''ve read say that they''re not entirely safe, because of the increased risk of SIDS, and that it''s better to do with just a fitted sheet and a soft blanket/sleepsack. But it seems like a lot of mothers use bumpers as well.

What''s your take? Do you use a bumper on your baby''s crib? Why/why not? If you don''t use a crib bumper, what type of bedding do you have?

Thanks for any feedback!

The bumpers are a waste IMO. You can't use them when they are young because of SIDS. And you can't use them when they are older because they'll stand on them to try and get out of the crib!

But I do like (and use) the mesh bumpers like these:
http://www.amazon.com/BreathableBaby-Crib-Bumper-Slatted-Cribs/dp/B0015V3NPM

Keeps their little feet from getting stuck and they smoosh right down so they can't use them as leverage to get out of the crib.

We just have crib skirts, mattress pad, and fitted sheets And we use sleepsacks.

Also just FYI blankets aren't safe for little ones either. Once they get a little older they are fine but I would use footie pajamas and sleepsacks early on.

Ditto! We also use the ultimate crib sheet in case there are any night time accidents and they can be changed without removing the mesh bumper or lifting mattress. Much easier!

Pandora-I could take Sophia if I wanted to pay for it. I can''t imagine how much it would be to pay for my mom and Sophia to go to Singapore. The hotel is covered. Plus, I don''t know if I really want her traveling right now.

Thanks for all the comments on traveling. I''m still working on an alternative. We''ll see.

Sabine-Wow on the laughing and the rolling! Sophia hasn''t done either. She does this hilarious aaaaaaaaa ha but can''t figure out how to laugh. She also goes from babbling to crying to smiling. When she''s babbling and starts to cry I usually say something to her and she smiles and goes back to babbling lol

Ebree-Oh no! I''m sorry! Any ideas on what you will be getting? Sophia is a regular pooper too. She has one major poop around 8am and another around 7-8pm. lol

Blen-Yay on the notice
36.gif

MG-Glad Kyle is better!

NYC-Yay!!! Boo to teething.

Sha-We have a bed set that was given as a gift. Bumpers are a total waste as is the bed set. I was just going to get a crib sheet and leave it at that. The quilt/comforter is thrown over the diaper champ that we don''t use anymore. The bumpers are still on there because we set up the bed way before she was moved into it but we''re taking them off.

I would just get a couple of nice crib sheets with a nice crib skirt.

****
Nothing over here. I''m insanely sleep deprived. Sophia decided to play around 2:30am and not sleep till 6am so I got zero sleep on Wednesday evening. Last night she slept at 9:30, woke at 12:24, 2:44, and then 6am. I''m so tired.

But I have a Marc Anthony concert tomorrow and it''s my first girl''s night out in a really long time. I''ll be going 7 hours w/out nursing/pumping so I''m going to get Sophia on the breast as much as possible tonight and tomorrow as well as power pump so that it doesn''t effect my supply. I could always take my pump with me but honestly I want the break and be able to enjoy myself "mommy free"
35.gif

fiery - have fun at the concert!

sha - I have "old school" style bumpers in my crib. They''ve been in there from the start, and he''s 8 months old and not an issue yet. I tried to take them out a few months ago, and he promptly got his foot stuck in the slats. The mesh style ones look like a neat idea though.

Kyle''s now coughing
38.gif
, so I guess he did get something, and DH is still being a baby and sniffling. But, my parents are coming to stay for the weekend, and bring my new couches!

Thank you all for the sympathy RE: my wedding ring. I'm pretty cheesed at myself for losing it. It's the ring he put on my finger on our wedding day, and I'll never have another one like it.
39.gif
I know it's just a symbol, but it upsets me nonetheless.

I made the claim yesterday (inc. getting a quote from a local jewelry store), and my insurance company sent a check out this morning. I had no idea it'd all happen so quickly.

Robbie- If it hasn't been mentioned already, have you tried beer to help with supply? Something really 'hoppy'? I've heard that can help.

mela- I've heard great things about domperidone. I had good luck with oatmeal, too.

Sabine- Henry makes all kinds of noises, and sometimes he'll look (and sound) as though he's about to cry, but start talking/shrieking again. I figure it's just him testing his new skill.
9.gif
As long as Jacks cries for just a second before babbling again, I wouldn't worry!

Mustang and NYC- Sorry about the teething! We're just starting the process over here, too.

Sha- I too have a breathable bumper in Henry's (unused) crib like the one neatfreak linked to. I personally would feel uncomfortable with one of the standard fabric padded ones, but I know other moms use them with no problems.

fiery- Awww, have fun at the concert! A girl's night out sounds like fun. Re: my wedding band, I actually put in an order with Van Craeynest today, though I wasn't planning on ordering something so soon (even though my left hand feels awfully naked). Based on the pricing I'd seen on the web, I was certain that when I called for a quote, it'd be completely out of my range. When Mr. Van Craeynest himself gave me the quote, it was so ridiculously IN BUDGET I couldn't believe it. Order placed. Eeeeek! On the VC website, in the stack of "bangles," it's the second one down- the ring of flowers/leaves.

I think we're officially dealing with teething. I can't feel anything on his gums, but there are periods each day where he's almost inconsolable and covered in drool. Nothing helps- not walking around, or the breast, and at least one of those things used to calm him down when he was upset. I've been using the Hyland's Teething tabs and they seem to be working, but who knows. It's a helpless feeling, not knowing what your screaming baby wants or needs. I can only rock him and rub his little head, hoping the tablets will kick in soon.

So the real purpose of a bumper, then, is to prevent the baby''s head/limbs from sticking through or bumping on the slats? I read online that that isn''t so much of a concern with modern cribs, since the crib slats are supposed to be a certain amount of inches apart to prevent this. Did those of you who chose not to use bumpers have this issue?

Not sure where you read that but it is definitely not true. They can't get their *heads* stuck in modern cribs but mine can sure still get hands and feet sticking out without the bumper.

And my kids scream bloody murder if they get their foot stuck out of the crib and can't figure out how to get it back in. So mesh bumpers it is!

fiery - have fun at the concert!

sha - I have 'old school' style bumpers in my crib. They've been in there from the start, and he's 8 months old and not an issue yet. I tried to take them out a few months ago, and he promptly got his foot stuck in the slats. The mesh style ones look like a neat idea though.

, so I guess he did get something, and DH is still being a baby and sniffling. But, my parents are coming to stay for the weekend, and bring my new couches!

Ditto on the bumper. We do the same. We like the ultimate crib sheet very much as well! I also like how the bumper keeps him from looking out of his crib while he's in there. We had lots of sleeping and napping troubles for many months so whatever I can do to minimize distractions is a good thing. My AAP book, current edition, actually recommends bumpers which surprised me. I asked one of the pediatricians in our practice and he did not feel strongly one way or the other.
