It isn't a mistake at all. Note how complete the colour change is, and that both colour-ways have strong saturation without being overly dark as most alexandrites are. To find something of this quality is like a needle in the haystack.

Nope not a mistake Kenny. This is a rare stone and good ones are rare as hen's teeth! What makes it rare is (a) the size, (b) the clarity and (c) most importantly the colour change. It's also a decent cut which helps!

I NEVER say anything is an investment stone but Alex is probably about as close as I've come.

That's too funny, because I had the opposite reaction - an 8+ct, eye clean, excellent color change (and beautifully colored) alex for less than a quarter of a million? Great price!
