I went today before work, for about the 8th time! to look again at my local ring store. The ring I originally put on hold yesterday, I realized would possibly not work for me. I don''t want my BF to spend that much on a center stone. If I go with a three stone ring, I would have to have the center be fairly large so that the centers would not take away from it. This ring had .82 ct side stones that I put on hold, filigree hearts etc..

All of the antique rings that I tried on today had too much going on or were too big for my little finger. They lookied good in the case but not that good on me. I also tried on some ''tacori'' inspired rings..again, too many diamonds and too thick.

Anyways..I put a ring on hold that I have like for awhile..It is a 1.21 princess cut. Baguette side stones all on the top, engraved all on the top of the ring. Very classy, very clean, yet a little antique with the hand engraving. Looks perfect on my size 4 finger. Very sparkly and a lot of diamonds.
Going for $9400.

Platinum
weighs 6.3 grams
.64 baguettes in the semi-mount
1.21 princess center
F in color (great color!)
SI in Clarity.
EGI certified, or something like that.

What do you think about price etc?

I love this site!

I don't know much about Princess Cut proportions, but I will try to help where I can to start you off. Firstly, if you have seen this ring and love it, then you are in a better position to judge if this is the right one than any of us really. Firstly we need to consider the grading report. You really need to know if it is EGL graded and if so, which division graded it. There is EGL USA which is said to be the most accurate, then to the best of my knowledge other branches include EGL Israel, Antwerp, South Africa, and Europe. The other labs have various opinions regarding their grading accuracy. Sometimes during an independant appraisal, EGL grades have been found to be 2 or more grades off in some instances. However EGL graded diamonds often carry a lower pricetag than GIA and AGS. It is up to the consumer to make an informed choice. Regarding the price it is hard to say, especially as we don't know much about the grading report or what this diamond actually is for colour and clarity. It could be accurate, but it could appraise at an H I1 even, which would command a very different price than a true F SI1. My best advice is to see if you can make the sale contingent on having an independant appraisal on this ring, to make sure the centre diamond checks out at least. The appraisal won't be as accurate as the diamond is mounted, I doubt the seller would want the diamond popped out for the appraisal, but it would give you a better idea of what you might actually be buying.

Also we can't begin to help you with the cut quality as we don't have the dimensions of the diamond which we would need the grading report for. I think get the appraisal or at least an expert independant eye ran over this ring if you love it before you commit. You have a nice budget, take your time and spend it on a diamond and ring you will love, if it isn't this one and there are too many concerns with it, you will find the right one! Also beware thin or very thin girdles in a Princess, they can be prone to chipping, an expert can advise you and you can look on the grading report for the girdle thickness. See if you can get some more info then we can try to go from there. There are some posters here who are good with these shapes.

Hi Courtney,
I concur here. No one can tell if this is a good deal without proportions. Also, EGL certs are not the most accurate. I would really staywith GIA or AGS, however EGL NY is a decent lab. If it is EGL Isreal, then this would really raise red flags to me.

With EGL certs, I recommend to have it independently appraised before you purchase, and please post proportions here so we let you know if it is a good deal based on the egl cert claims it to be.

i would chip in for sure. this is definitely one of those things you don''t want to regret later - so if this is "the one" for you then it seems worth it to me to chip in and get the one you want.

You seem thrilled with this ring, but you might want to slow down for a little bit on this purchase. IGI is not a recommended lab here. Often stones come back with lower color/clarity than suggested on the report. Also, cut is the most important determinant of what makes a diamond sparkle. You will be amazed to look at the difference between a well-cut stone and a stone that is not well-cut.

My sales lady isnt in today. But I will call and try to get the dimensions of the center stone and also the cut.

It is Michael E. Minden at the Fashion Show Mall, Las Vegas Blvd.

I will post today when I find out.

I am kind of nervous because now I am getting all confused again and know I am going to be let down if what I post is not good..wish me luck! :)

Courtney,

This is a big purchase. Even if you are dissapointed just know this is a big decision. Make sure it is right. Don't rush into anything. If you are confused, take a step back and talk to us..I am sure many here will more that happily take time to speak with you.
You will find the perfect stone and setting.. just remember..you are the one in control, not the Jewelry Store. Now.. go find the perfect one, and take your as much time as you need doing it, and above all stay relaxed and unpressured.

If you are like me, you will be comparing long after you have made your decision, so wait until you find the ring/stone that screams your name, don't ever settle, and you will never regret.

MTRB.

Oh I am totally like you! I am very meticulous and that is why I am now doing my research. Please look at my other post with the specs.
