Quick question about blue sapphire

Speaking of “ew!”
This is how the stone looked in the seller’s pics:

This is an “unearthed” treasure, my favourite way of scoring a great buy.
Many many years ago I bought a “metal and marcasite“ ring which had been cut. Price $2.
The underneath of the ring gallery was solid gunk, probably decades of gunk. I soaked it for about a week and using a needle basically gouged all the gunk out.
Hmm, was actually an antique Platinum diamond set eternity band.
Nice.

I’ll post a new thread tomorrow. Need good light for new pics! Also want to give credit to @Austina for pinpointing the maker‘s mark. That info all by itself helped me date the ring to a very specific time period and suddenly raised the possibility of natural sapphire (I hadn’t expected that).

Naturally I find this the equivalent of winning the lotto! Is there a thread on this ring already?

This is really exciting @PreRaphaelite, I’m happy to have helped.

Ooh, so exciting! The stria is straight and not curved and color zoning. Prolly natural. I can’t wait to see the “after” pics. Geez, you coulda done a dna test on all that gunk under the stone. Eek... And also the “marcasite” ring, what a great find!! Keep us updated, there’s hope for all of us to find a beauty covered in gunk...

Please show us... I can’t wait!

Sorry for the delay. Here's Beverly:

Bumping this thread to see if anyone would volunteer an opinion on a synthetic Ruby strand?
