Leon Mege should do a superb job with the emerald.

The spinel is wonderful, as usual, with your excellent taste, Harriet. You have a lot of projects going on. How can you be so glum with all these exciting bling to play with? Are you suffering from this "winter lack of sunlight" thing? I''ve forgotten the correct terminology for it.

Thanks, Chrono. If only it were as simple as having SAD.

Sharon, it''s pretty. It looks like a ribbon. Do coloured stone rings ever look like e-rings? I''m not sure.

Yes, depending on how it is set, it sometimes comes off looking like an e-ring. Coloured gemstone e-rings are very common among European royalty.

Try and focus on the happy times; that helps me. I hope things get better (hug).

I like the twist setting that WF has http://com.pricescope.com/photos/whiteflash/picture2646.aspx (maybe Leon could do something similar); your beautiful stone would be nicely showcased.

So nice to see your beautiful spinel. That color is just to die for. That looks cheerful to me and your yellow asscher is like a portable sun, very happy looking stone.

Hope you are feeling better or at least not feeling worse. Cheers and hugs Harriet.

Harriet though you call yourself a novice, you are definitely making up for lost time! You have beautiful taste. Spinel is beautiful (and festive)! My prediction as ruby becomes (even more) restricted the price of such pretty red stones that can be used as "substitute"will go up.

For emeralds my preference is always simply set in high carat yellow gold, but I think setting it in a halo is a good idea for protection. As for design advice I''m not much help here because I am not a big ring person so again think more along the lines of earrings and necklaces and such. Personally I would love to have earrings in every color of the rainbow, to coordinate with various outfits, but I know that is excessive!

Beacon,
Thanks! I hope to be able to show you the stones in person.

Partgypsy,
Thanks for the compliments! What colour earrings do you have? Aren't they a great way to spruce up an outfit?!

Harriet, I have a collection of earrings but none very expensive!
The only earrings in gold are blue sapphire studs, peridot studs, and smokey quartz drop earrings (as a substitute for precious topaz earrings I someday hope to put together).

In vermeil I have white quartz oval studs, garnet leverbacks, and ones entirely in silver among others silver "shield" with garnet accent, 2 more peridot french wire earrings (one cabochon stone, other hexagon faceted), amethyst cabochon drops, 2 pearl earrings on french wire, turquoise pearl nugget drops, and tiny iolite pear earrings with seed pearl accent.

the thing on my wish list is classic set of diamond studs. I wear the Wink Jones cz stud earrings which have served me well, but ready for the real things.

WOW!!!! That red spinel looks beautiful!! That is an amazing collection you have there Harriet.

Harriet, you have the most amazing collection of loose stones! Absolutely gorgeous!!!
