Reduced: Martin Flyer 18K Setting

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Beautiful. How much are you looking for for the engagement ring setting?

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Thanks tyty! I missed this! The ering setting alone is $3425. It's worth about $8500 (at least that's what I paid well over a year ago),so it's a pretty good deal.

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Shameless bump...

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

I'm ready to sell, so make me a reasonable offer. ;)

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Yenny, have you thought of getting a colored stone to set in that e-ring setting? It would be gorgeous and I just hate seeing you take such a hit on it by selling!

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

DS I was just thinking the same thing! Or if you want to sell fora hit, it could make it easier to sell, too, since it is unlikely someone has a calibrated colored gem or diamond laying around in that size.

And perhaps split the set and sell the WB alone, since it is lovely and something many people might like for their collections.

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

My new OMC may fit in this setting...hmmm...its gorgeous!

Um details please?

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Thanks for the suggestion diamondseeker and Dreamer. I really can't keep the setting (it was part of the deal that I made with hubby when he agreed to let me have the setting for my oval made). I am more than happy to sell the ering setting and the wedding band seperately (and I believe it says that on the listing on JBEG...I'll have to double check). Do you think that JBEG could help me source a stone to set in the setting? If so, what type of stone would you recommend? I really don't have a ton of extra cash lying around right now.

Burk, I can't wait to see your new OMC and would be even happier if it looked amazing in this setting! ;)

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

I am sure that they can help you, I have seen many different non-diamond stones in settings on their site!

If it is not presently, I would perhaps list a price for the rings individually and together, so buyers know the prices without having to ask.

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Hi Dreamer, I'll email Grace tomorrow and see what she thinks. The price is listed both together and seperately, but it could be a bit clearer. Once I know what Grace suggests, I'll ask her to make the pricing easier to see.

That's a really good idea. I always think that when I see used settings: it's gotta be 1:1,000,000 that someone has a stone of that size that would fit, and then that the same person would find any given setting to their taste and budget. Turning it into a completed ring would overcome some of that. Plus the risk that something could go wrong during the setting process would be eliminated.

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Since I'm a colored stone neophyte, what stone would you all recommend I put in the setting? Please keep in mind that I don't have a huge budget for the stone.

Yenny, I would put a stone that cannot be mentioned into it :)) Either "diamond" or "Ruby" or "Sapphire".

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

OK, I'm dumb. I'm not sure what you mean, unless you are saying a stone that wouldn't cost much at all since it wouldn't be a "keeper". Is that what you're getting at? If so, do you really think someone would spend that kind of $$ on a ring that has a "non-keeper" in the center? Talking in code is such a challenge! I hope you get my meaning!

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

That's a good point, Yenny. A $4k+ ring with a stone like that would be... oddly matched. I would think about talking to Bob Kast and seeing what he might have around. I think it would look gorgeous with a radiant cut aquamarine.

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

I don't think a lab grown sapphire or ruby would be ill matched. No more than a $200 aquamarine or garnet ;)) . My MIL wears a lovely ruby that is lab grown. And they are inexpensive. As for the other option I alluded to, look on DB and tell me that there are not people willing to spend money on a mount with such a center stone :halo:

Yenny, unfortunately there is not an active resale market for settings. They usually sell just above scrap for the metal and secondary market value for the diamonds. You might find the right buyer, but it could take time.

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

DD makes a good point. You sure do see a lot of competed rings with fakey stones in them, and they certainly sell. Though this price-point is an outlier anyway, so I can't think of rings I've seen be listed and then sell up in this range.

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Yeah, I wouldn't spend that kind of $$ on a setting with a stone that isn't worth keeping as the star. Who is Bob Cast?

What about this stone? Does it look nice? It's from a PS vendor. It measures 8.2 x 10.3 x 5.6 mm whereas the diamond that was in the ring was 9.42 x 8.06 x 5.57mm. Would this work?

No.... that's not a good stone. Colors washed out, the faceting is not very nice and it looks shallow and windowed (like you can see right through it). I wouldn't spend 500 bucks on that stone, personally.

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Bob Kast cuts stones and sells them on DB. I thought I great a good deal with him, but I am no CS junkie. If you started a thread on CS, you might get better advice than I can give.

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Thanks Gypsy, I have no clue what I'm looking for. MissStepCut, that's a great idea!

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Yennyfire, I probably have the perfect stone for this setting but it's not the best time for me to buy a setting. I have a padparadscha sapphire 3.63ct 9.26 x 8.29 x 5.45 that needs a home!

Would you be willing to make a trade on another ring? :naughty: I have one with JBEG right now.

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Hi Brightice,

If you had a pair of OEC earrings, I'd most definitely be interested in a trade, but I don't "need" another ring (I know, I know....what kind of PSer says that???)....I'd love to see a photo of your pad....I'll be it's gorgeous!

Re: Martin Flyer Setting and Wedding Band

Trying to get the title updated, but the setting has been reduced to $3200 and I will consider offers.

It's towards the bottom of the page:

Yenny I sent you a message on DB, regarding your question in RT :-)

Checking now Dreamer....

Is the price of $3200.00 for the set? That's what it appears on their site. What can you sell the main setting for? I don't need the band (listing states price of $1000). I know it would work for my Padparadscha Sapphire and I really would like to get it set.
