First, that dress is GORGEOUS and I think even with the extra material, it looks fantastic on you. I''m no seamtress, but maybe you should call the store and ask to switch it to a zipper. I have a zipper covered by buttons on my dress and the seamstress I''m using altered it very well. It fits very snuggly around the waist without a corset.
Hope that helps.

Diva... did you have lots of folds where they altered your dress.... or more smooth single panel of material?
Dresses with these types of folds are being seen more and more these days. Most of them do not have corsets. If the seamstress at the bridal shop isn''t qualified to work with your dress, don''t let her touch it. Find a qualified seamstress and get the zipper and buttons. As a matter of fact, I would try and find reviews for a good seamstress now, show her the photos, and see what she says. I''ll bet she will say "no problem."Date: 9/8/2009 1:10:02 PM

I called a bridal dress seamstress and she said the reason why they want me to get a corset is because it can be very difficult to alter both side seams of the dress to make it tight at just the waist (the only part I would need major alterations) because of all those tiny FOLDS. She said the seam has to lie straight horizontally, obviously, and getting all those folds to line up and be flat is more difficult if you are trying to alter with a zipper.
She said the final alterations will be easier if it means just tightening the corset strings at the waist more.
I am not trying to get it to fit unnaturally tight at the middle and squeeze my skin... I just want my natural waist to be emphasized.
I am sure an AWESOME seamstress can do anything... but i have no true idea of what the store''s person can do. I think she wants to mess with those busy side seams as little as possible.
i tend to agree that this style of dress would look more steamlined with a zipper/ buttons. if I try to change the order... I have to do it right away!
AND I HAVE NO PICTURES OF THE BACK OF DRESS. DARN!!!!

I called THREE seamstresses and ALL said if done properly... this dress should be great with a zipper/buttons. I also called two expensive dress stores (gowns start over $3000) and described the style of my dress. They said they see more zippers with this style.
i just called the dress store and they had no problem changing the order. Nice! i think satin covered buttons will make me feel better about the dress.

that dress is stunning on you. you are NOT thick, have no part of your body that appears thick in that dress.
i know no one should talk you into a dress, but dearheart, i think you found a gorgeous dress.
i''m not too sure what your friends are talking about wanting to remove the top part of the dress. that is what makes it interesting, it is what makes it yours, and it is why you loved it in the first place. if it is comfortable like that, keep it and rock it.
again, i would never say keep a dress that you''re not a fan of, but as i''ve said before, not everyone will have the ''OMG THE HEAVENS PARTED, ANGELS SANG, I''VE GOT MY DRESS!!!'' moment.

That dress is gorgeous on you!!
Having said that, if you are having doubts, either try to exchange it (even though the policy states no returns or exchanges some places will still work with you) or keep looking. I was a two dress bride because of my doubts about my first gown! I wore them both.
