my honest opinion: this is one of the most beautiful dresses that i have seen here or anywhere else! it is unique but classic. it is REALLY gorgeous!!!!

Just wanted to chime in with the others. You look gorgeous in the dress!!! I think it''s absolutely beautiful. But, of course, the decision is yours to make.

yeah i have a zipper with buttons. i had it altered and am going to try it on for the first time on sat. she modified mine from a modified a-line to a mermaid, so MUCH more fitted. i''ll let you know how it works! again, no corset here!

I called a bridal dress seamstress and she said the reason why they want me to get a corset is because it can be very difficult to alter both side seams of the dress to make it tight at just the waist (the only part I would need major alterations) because of all those tiny FOLDS. She said the seam has to lie straight horizontally, obviously, and getting all those folds to line up and be flat is more difficult if you are trying to alter with a zipper.

She said the final alterations will be easier if it means just tightening the corset strings at the waist more.

I am not trying to get it to fit unnaturally tight at the middle and squeeze my skin... I just want my natural waist to be emphasized.

I am sure an AWESOME seamstress can do anything... but i have no true idea of what the store''s person can do. I think she wants to mess with those busy side seams as little as possible.

i tend to agree that this style of dress would look more steamlined with a zipper/ buttons. if I try to change the order... I have to do it right away!

AND I HAVE NO PICTURES OF THE BACK OF DRESS. DARN!!!!

First, that dress is GORGEOUS and I think even with the extra material, it looks fantastic on you. I''m no seamtress, but maybe you should call the store and ask to switch it to a zipper. I have a zipper covered by buttons on my dress and the seamstress I''m using altered it very well. It fits very snuggly around the waist without a corset.

Hope that helps.

Diva... did you have lots of folds where they altered your dress.... or more smooth single panel of material?

cocolaw---- did your dress have lots of folds along the side seams that she had to take in?

mine does have folds as you can see. i will take a pic sat so that we can see what she does, but she is definitely taking the dress in on the sides.

That is going to look great! i do see that the major seams she is taking in lower on your body are single pieces of material so i guess that is easier to make look good. the only place I need mine altered has dozens of folds. Ugh! I am calling another seamstress because I think it is easier to make a zipper into a corset, but not the other way around?

actually, she is not really taking in the part with the folds very much. the main part is the top and the hips. here is the body of my dress up close. i did not realize that my folds really stop below where she will be taking in.

BTW. THANK YOU for all your kind words. I feel better about the material so now i am just stuck with the zipper vs. corset back and it sucks to not have any pictures.

def talk to the seamstress and let us know what she says! i honestly think that even with the corset back this dress is a KNOCKOUT.

I agree with everyone else...the dress is beautiful and it looks great on you!

Hey there!

Yes, my dress had fold in the front and back of the dress. Here's the link to my dress: Link

Hope that helps.

ETA: For my first fitting, the seamstress took it in from the both sides of the dress, all the way down to the hips to accentuate my waist line. For the second fitting, she took in from the back, by the zipper.

OMG that is STUNNING! You definitely should be in love with your own dress but wow that is absolutely gorgeous. I love the off shoulder a bit. The material looks beautiful and so elegant. I think check with an alterations specialist for what you want it to be but it is fantastic and looks amazing on you.

Dresses with these types of folds are being seen more and more these days. Most of them do not have corsets. If the seamstress at the bridal shop isn''t qualified to work with your dress, don''t let her touch it. Find a qualified seamstress and get the zipper and buttons. As a matter of fact, I would try and find reviews for a good seamstress now, show her the photos, and see what she says. I''ll bet she will say "no problem."

Diva- your dress rocks! If the side seam look good on yours... I am SURE a qualified person can do it on mine. Thx.

Wow. I know you have reservations about the dress, but oh my gosh- it totally floored me. This dress is GORGEOUS and you look gorgeous in it. Not thick, not bulky, not anything but stunning.

I think you should go with a zipper and buttons. My dress is PLENTY snug with a zipper. In fact, I think corsets run the risk of loosening up during the ceremony/reception. I''m not a seamstress, but I really wouldn''t listen to the designer on this one. A good seamstress will make that dress fit like a glove, especially if you go with the zipper.

I called THREE seamstresses and ALL said if done properly... this dress should be great with a zipper/buttons. I also called two expensive dress stores (gowns start over $3000) and described the style of my dress. They said they see more zippers with this style.

i just called the dress store and they had no problem changing the order. Nice! i think satin covered buttons will make me feel better about the dress.

YAY!!!!!

Oh I am SO pleased for you because this is such a beautiful dress on you!

The dress is beautiful and you look amazing in it.

I don''t have a ring yet. Still waiting for him to ask. But I''ve got my dress in the closet. Whenever I have doubts and think I''d like something else better, I just take it out and put it on.

With the right person to do the fitting your dress will be just perfect. I''m sure you''ll be happy with your choice. (And if you have any doubts, go put it on)

I''m glad they were able to change the order for you! You were right when you guessed that you can change a zipper to a corset but not the other way around. Because in a corset the laces take up room where there would be material in a zippered dress. I don''t know how much sense that made. Anyways... I think you look gorgeous in that dress!

green - that dress is fab! and great on you too!
The material - no one will notice. a good (picky) friend of mine went dress shopping (for me) and picked out polyester, and she thought it was the more expensive material!

that dress is stunning on you. you are NOT thick, have no part of your body that appears thick in that dress.

i know no one should talk you into a dress, but dearheart, i think you found a gorgeous dress.

i''m not too sure what your friends are talking about wanting to remove the top part of the dress. that is what makes it interesting, it is what makes it yours, and it is why you loved it in the first place. if it is comfortable like that, keep it and rock it.

again, i would never say keep a dress that you''re not a fan of, but as i''ve said before, not everyone will have the ''OMG THE HEAVENS PARTED, ANGELS SANG, I''VE GOT MY DRESS!!!'' moment.

Your dress is FANTASTIC!!it looks beautiful on you! And to quote charbie, you are not "thick"! If you want to see "thick" wait til I post my wedding dress pictures!

Wow, this dress is ridiculously awesome. It''s so classy and stunning on you. I''m so glad you went with the zipper/buttons too. I don''t see corset with this style dress.

I also love the asymmetrical staps and don''t see any reason why you''d want to take that part off for the reception.

That dress is gorgeous on you!!

Having said that, if you are having doubts, either try to exchange it (even though the policy states no returns or exchanges some places will still work with you) or keep looking. I was a two dress bride because of my doubts about my first gown! I wore them both.

Laila...You wore both dresses? Was one more fancy? which one did you wear first? I know it is common to wear a super sexy dress for the reception... something easier to dance or shorter... but if i get another one I want it to be even MORE bridal.

I showed my future husband a pic of something similar to my dress and he said it looked too simple for a wedding dress. however the pic I showed him WAS a tad more simple... just the same concept.

maybe now the pressure is off so I can look casually for something completely different and unless I find something that rocks my world for a great price... i have my back-up dress.

GORGEOUS dress! And I'm happy you switched to the zipper and buttons. In my endless dress-shopping experience, I found that a well-made button-and-zipper dress is every bit as flattering at the waist as a corset dress. What a great find, please don't look any farther!
