Several months ago I lost my 1.5 ct round diamond out of my wedding ring! Aghhhh. After searching (we were on a bike ride) we could not find it. I have decided that I want to replace it with a princess cut set on the diamond shape. I have not taken it in yet to be looked at because I am nervouse they will say it is not possbile. haha I am scared to be disappointed again!! So, I am thinking the mount will have to be redone...what can I expect to pay for this?? Here is a pic of my ring. Thanks for any thoughts or ideas!

I love your ring!! Gorgeous.

It looks like you have a 4 prong setting, so it should be possible...but I'm a little hesitant to say "heck, yeah" just because of the prong style. Don't princess prongs usually cover more of the corners of the diamond? It looks like you have little ball prongs there. Might be hard to set a princess in those.

HOWEVER...(I can't tell from this angle) -- you might be able to swap out the head and put in a head that will work for a princess. Worth a look see from a jeweler?

Yes, it is quite possible to have this done, though a princess cut stone would probably sit higher than your round did, (depending on the size of the princess). I'd use a commercial setting , modify it and solder it to the existing base on your ring, (after removing the existing prongs). This is the least expensive method with a commercial setting costing under $100, (list price), in 14K gold and just under $300 for platinum. You could expect to add from $100 to maybe $200 for labor costs to that, to have the new setting installed and the stone set. You have the choice of using double prongs at each corner or chevron prongs and with this ring I think that double prongs would really look nice.

I would avoid any temptation to use the existing prongs, as their seats have been cut for a round stone and are not long enough or shaped properly to hold a princess cut stone.
