I have my transitional in a Dahlia setting but I have always contemplated an EW setting, either the Margot or the Minna. I have always been a set once and it's done type of person. Have never really set and reset a stone. To those who have were you happy you did it? Did you keep the setting and use it for something else and did that go well? Or would this change not really be worth it and I should just leave it alone?

Other option I have always loved would be the Singlestone Allison.

Nothing to say here except that you've just named three of my top 4 settings (only missing Erika Winters Grace cathedral). Good luck with whatever you decide!

I don't know what any of the settings you mentioned look like and would also like to see pics.

That said, unless you actually dislike the current ring, another option is to leave it as-is and get a lab diamond for a new setting, especially since lab diamonds have come down so much in price.

If so, I'd go for a second ring that varies enough from the one you already have that it would make sense to have both, because it would be a completely different look.

For example, a different size or shape diamond and different metal color. Or a ring that clearly looks like a right-hand ring, if your current one is an e-ring.

Anyway, just a thought. :)

good thought, I think probably most of the options I was thinking of are likely too close to what I have already had, don't really have an interest in lab diamonds so probably the best idea is just to leave it alone.

oh it is STUNNING as it is! As much as I love the other settings, I think this is a new band or colored stone or something else different situation rather than a reset. Those settings would be at least $5k (and the Minna could be much more), which is a really healthy budget for a new piece. French cut band time? :Up_to_something:

It’s really beautiful. And I like the idea of spending that extra money on bands instead because you can have very different looks depending on the band.

HI:

I read the title of your thread and nearly had a heart attack. Reset--I could only think of the Asscher and MC2! Glad I was wrong!

cheers--Sharon

what are you yearning for that isn’t being satisfied by this current setting?

Oh no that setting definitely isn't going anywhere, even if I got the itch it was just too pricey and I knew it had to be a lifetime setting before I did it lol.

yeah I think this is definitely the direction to go, off to look at the bands I have had on my wish list for a while!

Single Stone Allison is one of my favorite settings of all time. I think it’s a lower set stone on the hand. Do they do own-stone settings?
Erika Winter Margot is also one of my all time favorites. I think it’s a higher set stone on the hand due to cathedral style. EW -does- set outside stones as far as I know.

Because your stone is a Transitional, the profile might not look as puffy, set up high, versus the Allison which seems to be very suited to lower crown, lower profile diamond cuts. You know…. Actually, I stand corrected. Margot looks exquisite with a lower height diamond in the basket. See pear below.

Antique pear (low profile) in Margot. <3 <3 <3

Just confirming that Erika Winters sets outside stones as long as you find a stockist who is willing to handle it (or at least that's the case for me). The diamond was purchased from Maven Lane but Alara will be arranging the setting.

Yes singlestone will set client stones I have discussed with them in the past but never actually moved forward.

I also got a quote on Margot once for a different stone and that was directly from EW, just about went with it but then once I got the quote I asked for shipping instructions (as far as their preferred method, shipping address, etc) and they never replied after that. So it probably is easier if you go through a retailer like newtojewels stated. Greenwich St has told me they can facilitate client stones with EW.

You mean you think the Allison may be a good choice for a transitional or you mean maybe it wouldn't because of the lower height of the stone's crown?

I think The Allison would be, because it would be showcasing the typically lower crown Transitional from the top, while also adding interesting embellishments on the sides.

Versus the Margot cathedral setting which I think looks great with a puffy crown, taller profile OEC.

However, in the link I posted, the flatter antique pear looks stunning in the Margot. So I think EW would make any stone look fantastic with some design modifications to enhance the dimensions of the stone eg a lower cathedral, design details in the basket adding interest etc.

I am kind of like you in that I dont need any more sizeable diamond rings and my diamond is set beautifully. Colored stones is the answer I think if one is craving some variety.

I have thought maybe at some point down the road if I do another upgrade maybe I would do a more true OEC with a puffy crown. So maybe that Margot is something I will look into then.

Yeah I have a really pretty purple cushion shaped sapphire but I think I probably wouldn't ever put a colored stone in the Margot as I would always hold out that maybe someday I would do it for a diamond. But I agree with you saying I don't need anymore diamonds at present.

Maybe someday you will find the dream diamond shape and then it will go in the Margot!

Yes, been married 28 years this year so maybe when I get a few more years down the road I will ask Grace to help me find the perfect OEC! Or Singlestone. They sourced the asscher that was last year's upgrade (the transitional was purchased in 2010). The custom setting process just did not work out there (but their service was excellent) and that is how the asscher ended up with Tim McClelland.
