Hi all....

Does this pear look ok, or does it have a ''window'' ... (I think that is what it''s called....

I would only use the center stone so I really don''t care about the setting.

Please advise, ASAP It''s an ebay thing so gotta bid soon!

it''s hard to tell from that picture. I do see what you mean towards the bottom of the center of the stone. The color looks great though. I''d have to see another pic.

it''s the only pic listed... (Maybe for a reason?)

crap. I thought so too.

Man, I never thought it would be this hard to find a pear stone. I thought pink tourm, but now I have seen this rhodo garnet, they are both the color I am looking for. I don''t really care what type the stone is, I am just looking for a raspberrry (pinkish red, but not red) stone for a ring... grrr...

any suggestions??

Im not a big fan of pears. I think they never have as good a performance as other designs. What about a trillion?
What are the side stones on the ring? If the price is right, it may still be a good by. It''s not that great of a picture, and Rhodolite will look different in various light sources. They look best under incandesant light, and tend to get dull and muddy in florescent.

Sophie, I am NOT here to totally bash Ebay, and know many people have had great experiences on the site. I am not one of them. There is only one person I trust that I have dealt with on the site. I would hesitate to buy anything of value because you might not be able to get your money back, and pictures, while helpful, do not tell the whole story.

Sophie, is it the color and a pear shape you want or just the color?

Why not just buy a loose garnet on ebay instead. I bought a couple spinels and a hessonite and they were pretty nice. I''ve also purchased vintage sterling on ebay and got some really nice old pieces. however it is also easy to get ripped off. I always check for positive feedback and return options. Also if you ask a question and they don''t answer you even after a few days I probably wouldn''t buy from them.

By the way I don''t know what the stones are in the setting but I kinda like them.

thanks everyone...yes it is the color and pear shape i want. between 1-1.5 ct. would be perfect.

the inteded setting, will be halo, maybe all metal, like this one I posted for innerkittens halo ring....but i want a split shank.

I did check that website (prec. gem) but wasn''t finding a pear under $100 in my color..

I have scoured the net and ebay, and don''t know if I can search differently like with diff. words...tried lots.. grr

another problem with pears can be color zoning. i do like the pear shape but i have actually only seen one that i would consider buying because it was 1-a really good color stone and 2-the cut was exceptional--no windowing or color zoning at all. however, such a stone is going to cost some $$$. oh, and it was a spess garnet, but more yellow than orange.

That''s one of the reasons I rarely cut pears. The pointed end will always look darker than the rest of the stone. On darker stones such as the rhodolites, this end can get pretty dark. I prefer a trillion design over the pear for this reason.

Quick thread hijack... Sophie, I''m wondering if you remember where you found the setting you posted here? I''m really liking it but can''t find it anywhere!

thanks!

end hijack.
