She doesn't even need to take her ring off to clean it. Just scrub it w/a baby toothbrush while washing her hands. Maybe get her a little ring cleaning kit for Christmas! ;))

Oh, how I wish that would work. I know that if I got that for her/them I'd get a strange look and then it'd be thrown in the back of some drawer somewhere, never to see the light of day again.
Yeah...I think any non PSer would find it to be a strange gift. Too bad :wink2:

hahaha I know. If someone gave me that, I'd be thrilled! Oh well... lol

Me too! An ultrasonic? Jewel Jet? Some good cleaning solution? I'd totally be into that!

Same! I'd be so happy. I'm the only jewelry obsessed one in my family so I keep it to myself! hahaha Hide my Hello Kitty baby toothbrush when people come over!

I clean my ring every day or every time I go out. People think I am crazy. SIL gets her ring professionally cleaned every 6 months. At least she does that! My cousin's wife hasn't cleaned her ring since the day she got married... that was 4 years ago... OMG, to think about all the gunk is on there. And she never takes it off!

I've been using the Mr. Clean solution more than the Jewel Jet. I don't know if I am using the Jewel Jet wrong but it seems like Mr. Clean does a better job.

I need to buy an ultrasonic jet cleaner. Still researching which one to get.

Ewwww! I hadn't idea people were so gross with their jewelry! Ugh!

For now I just use the "Diamond Dazzle Stick" and blow dry my rings dry.... at work I use the little alcohol prep pads to keep it clean after using the alcohol hand sanitizer. Water spots are the bane of my existence... but according to the hubby, "you're the only one who can see the water spots..."

Since I *hopefully* will have my engagement ring for keeps in the next few weeks, I should really start looking into solid cleaning options...Hmm...

LMAO, mine is a Dora the Explorer toothbrush.

I have an ultrasonic, but only use is sparingly. My ring is vintage and I'm afraid that the u/s might cause some damage, so I generally only use it once a month at the most. Dora goes to work on it every single day, though! :wink2:

Yah, for Dora! I've found that baby toothbrushes work better than anything because they get the gunk out of the prongs. One time I had taken my ring in and it was still gunky after the jeweler cleaned it and looked better after it was given a good scrubbing at home!

Would it be awfully forward of me to want to purchase ring cleaners for these ladies for Christmas? :Up_to_something:

DH and I were just out doing errands and stopped at Wendy's for some high calorie/low protein 'junk food' (Yum - how I love salt and grease on the go!!) and I had tomato and mayonaise run down my hand and onto my E & W rings ---EEEEEEEEEEwwwwww!!! I just about went nutty knowing my diamonds were now all grimy and covered in oils!! ACK! :knockout:

Back home now, they are happily having a moment in windex and then I will rinse, buff, dry and admire! :praise: Oh - the sheer horror of dirty rings! How do people NOT want to keep them spotless - I just don't get that!

      !!!
Yes, "Mind Clean" to me is exactly about cleanliness! Even if I wipe off stuff, I still have an itch until it's properly cleaned!

Now, above rings, earrings! Some people NEVER clean those! Ew! I saw someone's crusty studs yesterday. :knockout:

I gave a lady at work a jar of jewelry cleaner one time. She wore an aquamarine that was absolutely disgusting how smudged and dirty it was. She did clean it maybe once.

If something does get on my ring I spray it with windex. Then clean it and then use my jewel jet. DH thinks it is funny I am so anal about it. When I take my jewelry in to be cleaned they ask me if I ever wear my jewelry.

I don't know if it's just my crappy Zales ring.. but my aquamarine looks like POOP! I scrubbed it, soaked it, everything. Nothing worked. The Jewel Jet finally brought SOME justice to it, but it still looks dead after a smudge or two. I don't wear that ring, ever, because of this. It attracts crud and looks like crud.

Windex is a no-no on rhodium plated white gold, right? Because of the ammonia?

ETA: And not that anyone should swim in jewelry, but chlorinated pool water is also bad for rhodium plating?

 I'd be the person to swim in jewelry. I don't know the affects of chlorine/ammonia, maybe that's a Q for Rocky Talky? I'm curious to know, now. I don't swim much anymore, but I've always swam with my earrings on. It's rhodium plated.

And I think aquas look worse than anything else when they are dirty. Maybe try soaking it in warm dishwashing soap. I like Dawn.

I have heard that. Most of my jewelry is YG.

Mine is a pink baby toothbrush with ladybugs on it but it has little feet that make it look like a caterpillar  I also have a steam cleaner!

Right? I thought it was just mine, but I guess not? I know different elements attract dirt at different rates (like synthetic diamonds get dirtier than real), so I'm assuming aquas do? Meh. Aquamarine is my birthstone, but I was born on the 30th. I was obviously born too early. I'm meant to be born in April :praise: I'm going to give it away soon.

That is too cute - if I were a kid, this would totally get me to brush my teeth!

I use a boring, normal, soft toothbrush. Must find a kids' one. And when I'm at work, I like to pop my rings into some of our 95% alcohol for a few minutes, swirl them around a bit, pull them out and they look bloody fantastic!

You guys are gonna howl when I tell you what I use: the steamer on my espresso machine (and I have a very nice Ultrasonic I might add)

That steam comes shooting out of there & blows it to absolute smithereens !!

If you give it away you'll have an excuse to get a new one. I have a YG and a WG aqua but I never wear them. I like them but they just don't grab my attention when I decide what to wear.

DH is on the road this week, I should give his espresso machine a try on my ring.

Chlorine is bad for any gold - it like dissolves the alloy or something? You can google to read about it. Even non-rhodium-plated WG or just plain yellow gold or anything. NO POOLS. ESPECIALLY NO HOT TUBS. NOT EVER. Platinum is apparently more okay with it because of what it's alloyed with. But apparently it will make gold really brittle and then it can crack really easily or something.
