I too want a ring with sapphire and my promise ring is simple. 5 diamonds and 5 sapphires. The ring you described sounds pretty, but the pics didnt show...

have you ever thought of an emerald cut diamond? or do you not like steps?

Honestly... I like it but I don''t love it. I see what you mean about the body color (and as I found with my own oval they do show more color than a round would). But go outside and into different lighting environments becuase you''re very right, it might just be something in your own room that''s giving it a warmer appearance.

Also, I would like the sapphires to go farther down the band. They seem to stop too abruptly.

Will be interested in seeing what else the jeweler sends!

ok it came up at least one of the did....its pretty. But if you get a band to go with it that has the sapphires, then the sapphire will detract from the color of the diamond. you know what I mean? Its a good stone. What is the clarity? Maybe you could get some larger sappphires. That would look nice too...

Huh. I WANT to love it, but I don't, quite. I think the stone is very nice, do you have any more details on it? Something about the band doesn't quite work with the stone. It's ironic, since my band tapers too, but I think that the taper is too abrupt and takes away from the size of the stone. Either you need a band that will blend into the background or one, like a bezel set, that showcases that diamond. I still like the sapphires with it, though!

ETA: I also think the size of the stone is good for you.

It''s growing on me, but I do agree that the sapphires stop kind of abruptly and the band definitely still looks a little too busy for me. Maybe I just need to clean it. The swelling in my hand has gone down (chips & salsa last night... bad) so it doesn''t look as tight now, and I think that''s why I''m liking it better.

When I took it out in the sunlight, WOW, the diamond just lit up blinding white! I think it may be the interior lighting/paint color... it''s a sage green so it gives off some yellow. Also, the melee/pave lit up too and it sparkled like crazy. I''m not 100% won over, but I think I''m going to wear it for awhile and see how I feel later. The good thing about going with this jeweler is he''ll take it back if I don''t like it, change it out, whatever, without issue. I sent M pictures of it but he''s busy and hasn''t commented yet.

I don''t know the specs on the stone yet, waiting to hear, but I LOVE it. It has almost no bow-tie and tons of sparkle. And it''s really big for a 1.33. I think it''s just the right size for my finger, so at least that''s a "SOLD". The setting... well... I''ll give it a day.

I agree Sum...it''s nice but something isn''t screaming THAT''S IT! to me. I''d like to see more sapphires, but something about the band I just don''t like. Good luck and I''m glad you''re starting to like it better!

Loving the stone is a huge first step, and I''m sure you''ll find a setting you love too. I was so disappointed with the first few sapphires we received to evaluate, because I wanted to love them the minute I opened the box...but I just didn''t. So I gave it more time, and expanded my setting search as well, until I found what I really wanted. Of course, that meant I was engaged for 5 months before I got my ring, but I definitely don''t feel like I "settled."

Fortunately the only thing wrong with my camera were the batteries(!) so I got some more shots... the sunlight makes me like it, so here''s what it does...

From the side it almost looks like a split-shank. M called and said he liked it so I think I''m going to keep it. I think it would be better if it had a third sapphire on each side... maybe he can do that for me when we go visit this fall.

Sum,
I like the ring! At first glance, I probably would''ve thought it was too busy too but looking at it on your hand, I think it''s really pretty. I like how the sapphire''s seem set a little deeper than the band so they don''t take away from the center stone. I also think the center stone is beautiful and a great size. Hopefully they can change it a little so it''s more to your liking.
Very exciting!!

Yay for beautiful ovals!!!!!

I''ve been away so haven''t been checking up on PS as much, but I''m so glad to see you found your stone Sum!! It looks like a gorgeous oval... do you have the specs on it? It seems like a similar proportion to mine... L/W ratio of 1.34. And it looks very white in the sunlight pix! The sapphires make it so unique... but the fun part about settings is that they''re definitely change-able... so if you stick with this one for a while but eventually decide you''d like to do something different, it''s usually not as big of a deal as upgrading an actual diamond. But it looks lovely on your hand... congratulations again!!!

Ephemery... you know I kept your oval in my head the whole time we were shopping... I had the first jeweler show me some proportions and I looked online a lot and I found I just didn''t like a ratio bigger than 1.4. I put that in my request to this jeweler. I haven''t seen the certificate yet... seems kind of silly to be buying it without seeing it, but this guy said it''s amazing and my mom said it''s amazing and I think it''s amazing, so I''ll see the specs soon, but don''t have to see them to know it''s the right stone. It''s not like I''m wearing the cert on my finger!

M just made payment arrangements for it so it''s mine! He hasn''t even seen it in person yet but he says he likes it. I think he likes that it fits our budget the best.

The setting is really growing on me... I think it''s just not what I envisioned, but I like it nonetheless... who wants to place bets in how soon I''ll change it?

Glad to hear my stone got to be an inspiration... we are definitely on the same wavelength in our ring preferences!!

I just love the lower-ratio ovals too... there is something so graceful about them... almost like their own unique shape. And I didn''t like the look of the more squared-off shapes (radiants, etc) on me... maybe for a RHR someday, but not for my e-ring. I''m with you about rounds, too... they are beautiful, but I wanted something just a bit different. And my fiance REALLY didn''t want a round. So oval won out, and I''m glad it did!

As for the setting, there is no harm AT ALL in talking to your jeweler about making some changes if you aren''t feeling totally convinced. The important (and hardest!) part is just finding the diamond, which you''ve already done... I''m sure he''d be more than willing to work with you on some different setting ideas if you wanted to at least run it by him. But I understand where you''re coming from... you like it, and it''s not like you have something else specifically in mind... so it almost feels like more trouble than it''s worth right now. Especially since you''re enjoying just having a ring on your finger!! Still, spend a little more time thinking about it and maybe give him a call... he might have some other ideas (maybe pix he could email?) if you wanted different options to compare.

it''s mine!
YEA! That''s great! Congrats!!!

I think IIIIIII like it ''cause it reminds me a bit of my own e-ring

! I do like that shape & size for your hand ... very lovely & interesting & substantial enough without being bulky or too difficult to pair a band with.

If they can''t add more sapphires & that part sticks out for you in the long run - you could have them sub in plain diamond baquettes (like MINE

). The detail might blend in more then.

I like it as is though!

It does sort of look like yours, Deco! Cool!

If it''s still bugging me when we go to see my parents this fall, I''ll get him to change it then, but I think I just want to wear it now! And since my emotions on it have changed so rapidly just today, by then I may not even care. Everyone''s right in that I just like having it on my finger! I think I''m going to go get a manicure tonight.

I really like it! It looks gorgeous on your finger too! Yay for picking it out! You must be so excited...

It looks really nice in those outdoor shots. The pave stands out much more. Is there pave on the sides too, or is it milgrained?

Have you and M talked about his "engagement TV" yet?
9.gif

That diamond rocks, girl! It''s a pretty, pretty one! I really like the outside pictures. Happy happy!

Have you decided for sure yet?

It''s pave on the sides as well as the part of the band that isn''t sapphires... it just explodes in the sunlight. Makes me want to stay outside.

I went to get a manicure after work and I left the ring at home because it isn''t insured yet and I didn''t want to lose it at the salon, plus I wanted M to put it on my finger! So when I got home, I handed it to him and he said "Wow" and "You better not lose this!" (My pendant is the only piece of jewelry I''ve ever lost, but it was a crucial loss!!!) He was about to hand it back to me and then I put my hand out so he could put it on! It was sweet.

We''ve talked vaguely about the tv... he knows, but we haven''t started shopping yet. He did come back from Costco last weekend reporting that he saw a 52 inch Toshiba for $2400, which is about what I expected to pay for a 42 inch. I don''t think our room can really handle more than a 42 inch, but... so I asked him if it was EDTV or HDTV but he didn''t know so we didn''t rush right out to buy it or anything. I think now that the ring is on my finger, he''ll be ready for his tv!

So you are keeping it? Very pretty! I''m glad it wasn''t too long of a process for you. I''d be eager like mad to have my *evidence* of the enagement!
9.gif

Yup, Yup! I''m keeping it!!! M thinks the whole drama is funny because I just told him he needed to drive me to the train station tomorrow, lest I have an accident, being distracted by the sparkles and all.
2.gif

Haha. The first day I went to work after our engagement, I scrubbed the curb backing out because I was surprised by the way the morning sunlight was hitting my ring.

Be careful driving, girl!

OOoh, and can we see it from the side? That's always my favorite. I like to see how the diamond sits into the setting.

I'm glad you LOVE it now. Yay!!!!

Oh, I''m SO glad you''re keeping it! To be honest, I absolutely LOVE the setting! The color of the sapphires is divine! I think it makes the center stone look whiter too. It''s PERFECT! I wouldn''t change a thing! It truly is one of the prettiest settings I''ve seen!

Oh!! I''m so glad you are keeping it!! I think it is absolutely stunning!! I think it looks right at home on your hand. Congratulations again!!!

Fisher- I''ll get some sideshots tonight. I tried to take some yesterday but the pave made them blurry. I can do better!

Thanks everyone! I know this whole "keep it or not?" drama is a bit much, but only PS people understand... It''s one of those things that if you look at it straight on, it''s not "perfect" but any other direction and it''s lovely... I think I was overanalyzing. It also ties in really nicely with my lapis watch... have to take some pictures of that tonight too! I didn''t have it on yesterday so I didn''t see how perfect they are together.

Went to Starbucks this morning and the light in there lit up the stone better than anyplace yet. I imagine I''ll be spending a lot more time there!
2.gif
Although the office lights are good too!

Wow, that was fast, sumbride! What a beautiful ring! It does sort of look like a split shank at some angles.
18.gif
I think it looks lovely on your hand & your oval is gorgeous! Isn''t it fun to see how it looks in different types of lighting?

I just so adore my oval!!!
30.gif
I''m so glad I went with this shape! It''s highly underrated! (of course, because of that they are cheaper, so I like that!) It has so many facets and it just glows! I had so much fun in the tunnel this morning because it has red and yellow lights and they were sort of strobing as I drove through and they were all bouncing around inside my stone... I had to be REALLY careful with my car!!!
26.gif
Dangerous! I just showed it around the office and somebody put her grubby fingers all over it... rubbed it with her fingers!!!
29.gif
I ran right back to my desk to polish it up. I think I need to buy a cleaner now!

Oh Sum- I think it is stunning!!
30.gif
What a beautiful setting, sapphires, milligrain, pave, OH MY! I Love your oval- they are quite becoming aren''t they?

Sum - Honestly, I think it''s beautiful! I love miligrain, I don''t think it''s "busy" at all. (look at mine, talk about busy!)

Good Choice!
