Hi everyone,

I''m based in Canada (saskatchewan) and we are currently shopping for an engagement ring. I haven''t found my diamond yet, but want a max of 0.5 ct, ideal cut stone (in the VVS1-VS2 range hopefully :-) ).

I have fallen in love with the a setting (ritani):
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ritani-rings.22547/) --I love the narrow width of the band...and as I am having a pretty small stone (well big enough for me!!) I hope it will maximise the size.

I haven''t found any jewellers here that stock Ritani, but I have received a quote on a mount that is almost identical to the Ritani above, except that:

a) the prongs are also micro pave; and
b) the basket has two micopave tiers - the "top" tier, (as in photo above), and the "bottom tier" is (continuous with the shank).

As with the ritani, the shank is micro pave the whole way around except for a resizing space.

I got quotes via a B &M jewellers here, for an 18 kt white gold (platium) version, and also a platinum version. It is an american company that makes the mount, and they said that the only customisation they could do was to have a plain shank, but any customisation around the prongs and basket was not possible. Ideally I like the simplicity of the Ritani--plains prongs and just one mico pave tier on the basket.

I thought the quotes were a bit high seeing as this was not a Ritani ring, so I would be grateful if anyone who has bought this mount either from a jeweller here in canada, or in the U.S. could let me know where they got it, and how much it cost.

Also if any of the designers/vendors on this forum have produced a smiliar piece or stock Ritani, I''d appreciate it if you could give me an idea of what price I should expect!

Some great advice on this forum...and love all those pics!!!

Thanks!

Ash

i would not have the ritani ring replicated at the width that it is ... i would only get the original. if you have a random B&M make a 1.7mm micropave ring, you are asking for trouble IMO with melee falling out and who knows what the worksmanship will be like. if it was a 3mm ring, i'd say you might be in a better situation since the more metal holding in the stones, the better. but with a 1.7mm ring, i'd only get the ritani because i know they back their work and we have not heard of anyone having chronic issues with their melee falling out or the rings bending or anything. with that kind of super delicate work i would only go original. if you have to, i would order from the US and pay the duty and fees for the ring to get the real thing....what are the extra costs to do that? about $700ish? not too bad for something that you know is quality.

I agree with Mara. If you love the Ritani, just get the Ritani, I wouldn''t feel comfortable with a custom copy of that danity band either. Ritani is known for high quality workmanship so I''d just get the real deal. Pearlmans Jewelers is a Pricescope vendor who carries Ritani and does business outside of the states often and has also provided a few pricescopers with Ritani settings.

My fiance got that setting from Pearlman''s Jewelers. He also purchased a diamond through Bill Pearlman, who was great to work with and very honest (he rejected several imperfect stones for him). He seems to have access to a large selection, even though he does not list them on his website.

The website lists the setting as $1995, but I think that my fiance ended up paying $1600 for it. I''m not sure if he got a discount because we were also purchasing the stone from Pearlman''s. I would encourage you to contact Bill regarding this setting and him possibly finding an appropriate stone for you.

I missed the part where you said you still needed a stone. Like Basil, I purchased my diamond though Bill and couldn''t be happier. I''d highly recommended buying both from him if you''re going with a Ritani setting.

Hi aisling!!!

Greetings from a fellow Saskatchewanian. You didn''t mention where in the province you are located, but from my recent engagement ring shopping I know that it is difficult to find B&M shops that have designer settings.

I do know that GMG Jewellers in Saskatoon is a Tacori dealer and they *might* have some Ritani although I''m not 100% sure. GMG tends to bit a more expensive than some of their competitors, but they have a nice selection of settings. You might like to check them out to see some stuff in person, but likely you will get a better price online, although the duty and shipping can be a pain.

Let us know how the search goes.

...just want to say a general thank you to all the suggestions...so it seems that micro pave is expensive whether it''s branded or not!! and while I would like the reassurance of a name (ritani generally seems to be well behaved...although I have read a few threads that sugested the contrary!!) our budget would be stretched quite a lot to afford those prices!!!

re: saskatchewanian...yes it''s a pain looking for rings here, you really only have the mall jewelers and a very few independents--I haven''t tried the jewellers you mentioned so I must have a look there. I did try Birk''s, but was really disappointed!!! I was thinking of going to Edmonton to have a look--- any ideas of reputable jewellers there?

Thanks again!!

Ash
