Rose Quartz

website opened for me: $1750. eta: i hope quoting vendor price is not prohibited...been a long time since i read the rules.....

The Lang's rose quartz is huge and so translucent to the point I can see the prongs on the opposite end. But pricey, as all their othe jewellery pieces are.

I'm so glad you got this necklace, missy - I think it's absolutely incredible and would cherish a piece like that being in my family. Regardless of the 'worth' of the rose quartz, the piece as a whole is a showstopper. I can't wait to see photos when you receive it.

I love rose quartz, so is it any wonder that I really like the pendant? However, I would recommend looking it over carefully when you get it. From the last photo, there seems to be some gaps between the seat and the stone.

I don't look at rose quartz as being a stone that is "worth less" but rather a stone that is undervalued, therefore a good buy.

Saw this ring and thought it would be a beautiful compliment to your amazing pendant...

ahahaha Rosebloom: you went to Lang to find matching pieces for Missy---and I went to Oakgem! You were more successful I see...

cheers--Sharon

Ooh, you guys have good ideas!! I might need your help soon as I am thinking of buying some faceted rose quartz from Gary Braun (thanks to 1001 smiles!) so I am going to need help with setting it!

Thanks JustGinger. I am looking forward to seeing it IRL and hope it looks just as sweet.

Thank you Lady Disdain-I noticed that after I had placed the order and am hoping it is an artifact of the lighting in the pic but if not I will be sad because I guess that means I would have to send it back. :((

Chrono- I feel the same way. In fact, it is nice that I love something that isn't a fortune for once. And in any case I never buy jewelry that I don't think I love at the time regardless of the "value" of the stone especially since I never buy to resell. So it is a lot less important to me than others who look at pieces they buy with the eye to perhaps resell in the future should they choose to do.

MZ- thanks a lot for checking out the price. I think the Lang Antiques site was down for a bit and that is why I couldn't open it. Thanks for checking for me!

I have a question for those who have set stones before- Gary said the rough he is going to cut for me most likely will be about 10mm wide and 8mm deep and he wants to know if the depth will be a problem for me. Honestly I have no clue as I have never bought a stone before to set it with someone else so any insight on the depth? We are trying to get a 13 by 10mm pear cut from the rough he has but for him to do this it needs to be 8mm deep. If I want a shallower stone he will go with another cut. Does anyone have any thoughts about if this deep a stone would be OK to set? Not sure what I want to do with it yet. The obvious choice is a ring but I would not eliminate the possibility of another pendant this time set in white gold.

Thanks again!

The reason he asked is two fold. Firstly, it means having to go custom (which costs more) because it will not fit a standard calibrated setting. Secondly, it means the stone (and ring) will sit high off the finger which some people are not comfortable with. Having it set as a pendant might be a little more wearable but again, it will sit off the chest a bit higher too, which might make it more prone to flipping.

Thanks Chrono- that makes sense! Ugh,not sure what to do now. I would love to get this from Gary as it will be gorgeous but I cannot spend a fortune on the setting nor do I want a stone that is difficult to wear. But another cut will result in a less than pretty stone as according to Gary this would be the best for the rough he has. Now I am wondering if I should pass on this project though I cannot tell you how gorgeous 1001 smiles stone is (cut by Barry from the same rough). TDF!!

I,m out of town but logged in just to say I really like it. There is just something about rose quartz that I love. We were at the mineral gallery at the natural history museum and saw some nice samples there.

The thing is that you already will have a rose quartz pendant, so it makes little sense to have two pendants.

Hi, Missy:
I am flattered that my stone was an inspiration. I hope you don't mind, I'll post a pic for others to see as well (this one is 14mm dia, also cut by Gary).
To me, a 10x13x8 pear is not big at all, especially in a slightly sleepy stone... Here is an ebay setting for the same size stone, it may help you visualize the pear size in a ring: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370705868411.... Also, I think faceted rose quartz needs to have some depth to look its best :)
I look forward to what Gary cuts for you. And I am sure the knowledgeable folks on this forum will help you find a setting.

Missy,
101 is absolutely correct - a faceted rose quartz needs the depth to look right, both colour wise and to avoid other cut issues.

Hi 1001 smiles! I was hoping you would join the thread! Thanks for all your help. You really have inspired me with your beautiful gems!
I cannot open the link you posted. Can you check it out and repost as I am curious as to what might work with the stone. Thanks! :wavey:

Hi Chrono- I was thinking a white gold pendant as the one I am getting is in yellow gold but I know you are right lol. Having 2 pink quartz pendants might be a bit much, even for me.

Hi innerkitten, thanks for taking some time from your vacation and sharing your opinion. I appreciate it!

I've been enjoying this thread, since I also love rose quartz. I have heard of it since I was a kid collecting stones for my rock collection. Of course, I got my specimen from the local playground, so it was a gravel quality stone. Still, it was a piece of pretty pink quartz and one of my favorites.

I found this photo which shows a quartz mixture used for landscaping or roads that you might see in the central US where I grew up. I also collected pieces of smoky quartz and milky quartz.

Enjoy your new pretties, and please come back with more photos.

Thanks Flygirl. Cool photo!!
I will definitely come back with photos of the new pendant. I haven't decided what I am going to do with Gary's stone yet as I am waiting to hear back from a few vendors. Since it is the holiday time of year I know everyone is crazy busy so it might be a while.

Oh, thanks for the kind words, Missy. Anytime :)
I look forward to seeing how your projects turn out!

1001 Smiles, your new handle should be 1001 Enabler.

I thought you might be interested in seeing this photo! Although this is 630ct of low grade rose quartz, the faceted nuggets will make great fashion jewellery and the pink is quite strong (please excuse the rubbish photo) and light bounces off the facets which make it quite showy! Is it worthless? No. Think how much a bracelet or necklace made from these might sell for in a boutique type shop!

Thanks for the pic LD. Love the pink.

Gorgeous, gorgeous pendant and very pretty depth of colour to the rose quartz by the looks of it - and very clean. Can't wait to see pictures when you get it.

Thank you Starzin. I am trying to be patient lol but it might take another week to arrive (or more). I just hope it is as pretty as the pictures. I will be sure to post pics when it arrives.

It arrived and I love it!! I am exhausted as it has been a long day but I cannot leave my fellow PSers hanging so am going to post some quick shots. It's night here and so the quick pics taken with my phone may leave something to be desired but I hope they will do for now. Also want to thank all of you who participated in my thread and were so helpful in my decision to go ahead and purchase this lovely necklace. I love it and my dh loves it and I cannot wait to wear it.

Here are some pics.
